Another year is gone and the new one will bring us new challenges. Even with the mild winter we have been able to distribute over 350 coats to families in our communities. This is by far the biggest distribution we have done. I would like to thank all the Knights and Ladies Auxiliary members who have helped by collecting, sorting and handing out the coats. I have also sent letters to the parishes thanking them for their support and donations. Our local parishes gave us over 250 coats, many new or in good condition. We were able to buy coats locally and from our Su- preme office with our proceeds from the Bavarian Musikmeisters concert. We gave out coats not only to the schools in our community but also other social agencies such as the Reach-Up preschool program and Hands Across the World who provides support for the immigrant people in our area. We have a good inventory and will continues to give out coats throughout the winter. Our Spaghetti dinner will be on Friday, February 5 at St. Anthony’s parish center (see the flyer insert) with tickets being sold for Birthline and our Family Day of Prayer. We need to show our support for life by having a good turnout. I encourage you to come and bring your family, neighbors and friends to share our home cooked spaghetti din- ner complete with meat sauce, salad, and fresh bread. The tickets will be available at our January meeting or from your council officers. January is Pro Life month and we will be handing out Pro Life roses after the masses on January 16 and 17. In addition we will be providing the support of the 40 Hour Adoration at St. Anthony’s Church again this year on January 20 and 21 by guarding the doors from 4:30 PM to 6:30 AM each day. What a great opportunity to help and spend some time in adoration. This leads up to the bus leaving for the Pro Life Rally at the State Capitol on January 22. Our council free throw contests will be held in January at North Junior H.S. on Janu- ary 13th, All Saints Academy on the 15th, Westwood Elementary on the 20th, and Oak Hill Elementary on the 21st. These will be held during the day. Tom Winkelman is looking for volunteers to help. His phone number is (320) 202-0609. Our District contest will be on February 7 at the north gym at Cathedral High School. For the new year we need to add new members to help us provide the support to our parishes and families. All our members should look at those who are not members of the Knights and ask them to join us. We are doing many wonderful things in our parishes and community and we need to grow. Our time commitment is small as we ask our new members to choose one or two things that interest them. I look forward to working with each of you in the new year! God Bless you all! I hope you all had a Blessed Christmas and Peaceful New Year.

Our Spaghetti dinner will be on Friday, February 5 at St. Anthony’s parish center (see the flyer insert) with tickets being sold for Birthline and our Family Day of Prayer. We need to show our support for life by having a good turnout. I encourage you to come and bring your family, neighbors and friends to share our home cooked spaghetti din-ner complete with meat sauce, salad, and fresh bread. Dear Brother Knights, Pope Francis had a special Monday audience with all of the families of employees that work in the Vatican just before Christmas to give them Christmas greetings. He gave them an image of marriage and family life that I thought was very powerful and beau-tiful. “Marriage is like a plant,” he said. “It is not like a closet, that you put there, in the room, and just dust it occasionally: a plant is alive, it should cared for every day.” Furthermore he said the best gift that parents can give to their children is not things but their love, not forget-ting their love for each other. What a beautiful image to ponder the life of the family! I remember my parents expressing warmth in their relationship in the kitchen in front of us kids when I was younger. I look back and think of how much our experience and image of God our basic confidence in approaching the world around us largely depended on our experience of the love between my mom and my dad! We look at the world around us and how much of the solution lies in the concrete choosing to live out marriage and family well and with gener-osity. Maybe we can let this image speak to us as we live out this year! Happy New Year’s! -Fr. Ben
