Could filing for bankruptcy stop a forclosure?

Got bad advice from an attorney supposedly helping" me work with my lender. Jumpped through hoops for 1 1/2 years paying fees and sending paperwork for a refinance up to last month when I sent them over $2000 (which they asked for)
