JOHN BENDER

These particular pieces of clothing are a version of a “modern hipster”. This still mirrors old fashion (that of the 80s/90s) yet in todays era his clothing has again become in fashion. This is why I have kept the same types of clothing to my modern day Bender as the previous 80’s Bender as the clothing he wears originally is still in fashion today. Furthermore when looking in more detail we know that the plain elements to his outfit such as the t shirt, shoes and jeans acts to highlight the look of Bender’s signature denim jacket. A piece of clothing representing that of a casual look and given Bender’s unconcerned nature the want to impress others with his physical appearance lacks significantly.

CLAIRE STANDISH

Regarding Claire she’s that of a very pristine and classy girl, she’s of a higher class and will want to show this in her dress sense ensuring to wear branded items and highlight to others her interest in the finer things. This is why I have chosen her to wear a yellow Ralph Lauren polo as the pale colour brings out the logo, again highlighting her materialistic interest. To introduce a more modern feel again I’ve paired her with black skinny jeans and casual black heels, to bring about her girlish interest. In the trailer and shots it’s for this is reason I’ve photographed her with an iPhone, again bringing out her love of brands-which in terms suggests her of a wealthy nature.

BRIAN JOHNSON

Brian is the standard nerd, but unlike the past typical look of one I’ve altered the look. Switching old baggy jumpers with superhero t-shirts. This is because in today’s society superheroes are deemed a rather nerdy interest, contrary to substantial public popularity, superheroes are still classed in favour of “the nerdy”. In correlation to my market research -who classes Deadpool as their favourite superhero- I’ve featured him on Brain’s shirt. Not only does this create public interest and audience appeal, but it highlight the geeky nature that makes up Brian’s character. By pairing this with plain features such as blue jeans and white shoes introduces Brain’s want to be noticed amongst the group, the brighter colours catch more attention then that of standard black jeans and dark shoes, much like Bender. This contrast in colour schemes for the two highlights the contrast in their personalities.

ANDREW CLARK

Immediately I chose the Nike sports shirt for Andrew because in comparison to the original the 80s Andrew was wearing a blue Nike tank top, thereby by dressing modern Andrew in a newer version of this top implements the modern take of the film. Furthermore giving Andrew shorts and trainers connotes to his sporty nature and fitness interest. Not only this but the colours blue and black are stereotypically “boyish” colours and as Andrew wishes to impress his dad he uses these colours to enforce his masculine ability, these colours help him to conform to his father’s standard.

ALLISON REYNOLDS

Allison is regarded as the basket case, she’s the outsider. A common subculture in today’s society that would classify as the outsiders are people of a alternative nature that don’t conform to materialistic standards. Take the example of a “greebo”, they where clothes of a darker colour scheme that do not demand the attention some branded items do, and in terms of the bagginess of Allison’s clothes this again relates to the nature of a stereotypical greebo as it says that they’re laidback and uninterested in impressing. The bagginess of the stripped shirt highlights Allison’s comfort in her own skin and her lack of interest to gain people approval. This is reason for the main darker colour scheme as it demonstrates that Allison dresses in a way where it’s unlikely she’s be noticed as that’s how she feels she is-unnoticeable.
