Our audience

Our audience is Hipster/ Indie teenagers from ages 14-19. We choose this age group because they are similar ages to that of our band members, and is the style suited to our music genre. People of this age are more likely to buy merchandise and go to concerts, and as a Hipster/ Indie band we plan to have a lot of merchandise such as T-shirts, wristbands etc. If we are able to we would also like to be able to play at Venues such as UEA, Waterfront, the B2, and maybe if our band was to get more well known then we would be able to travel to bigger venues in places such as London.

We are targeting a global audience, although I think to start with it would begin with a more local appeal as people would not know our band.

How costume effects them

Costume is important to the audience because it has effects on how they then dress and perceive the band themselves. Often teenagers look at fashion within bands for inspiration and they almost see bands as their role models, so we want to wear things that reflect modern day Indie/ Hipster fashion in a way that our fans would enjoy and want to resemble our band members.

To find out what our fashion was to be we looked around the city, and in Hipster/ Indie shops to find out what sort of look to go for…

What costumes are we using?

The girl

In our music video the female band member as two different outfits, the main outfit is the Boy London jumper, skinny jeans and vans.

The other outfit is a knitted jumper, a flowing skirt with tights and her hair up.

The boy

The male member of our band has one style of clothes but changes slightly within the film. He starts off wearing just a polo, but ends up in a jumper and coat too. He wears a Batman belt, skinny jeans, and sometimes a flat cap.

Why we chose them

We have chose this style because it reflects the Hipster/ Indie style that teenagers wear these days. We chose for the girl to have two style of clothing because we wanted to reflect her changing when they broke up however the boy didn’t change because he wanted her back.

The clothes were picked out by looking at the fashion, and decided that a lot of the Hipster and Indie styled teenagers wear the knitted jumpers now.

We chose the boys outfit by looking at what some of the males wear, however we wanted to keep the masculine look so decided not to have the boy wear a knitted jumper too and instead wear a polo with a more casual jumper over the top.

Bed- we use a bed in the opening scene where the two band

members roll off each side of the bed. This shows them starting their day, and by rolling opposite ways supports the opening line of ‘’We’re always fighting and you never see’’ as a bed is a private thing as it is indoors.

Moped key- We use the key when they are in a meadow to show that he is taking her for a ride. We chose to place this here as it says ‘‘You hold the key’’ so therefore we decided to link lyrics and visuals as Goodwin's theory explains.

Guitar – We use a guitar in our performance scenes, this is

because it is the main instrument, and there is no meaning behind it.

Phone – We use a phone when the boy is looking through old messages, once again we link visuals and lyrics here as there is a close up on the phone as it says ‘’This will all work out’’

Umbrella- We use an umbrella in reference of ‘Singing in the rain’ by how she walks with the balloon, we chose this as an historic intertexual reference along with our modern ones such as ‘Twilight’.

Balloon- We use a balloon as a motif and it links with our

lyrics. As it says ‘’ We’re so far apart ‘’ Which we wrote onto the balloon but it has the second meaning that the balloon is let go so obviously the balloon is far from earth.

Props we didn’t use and why- We didn’t use the underwater camera as we did not end up doing the swimming pool scene due to weather and we did not have the time to get to the pool with good light. We did not need a stereo or cake ingredients in the end as we changed our ideas to new things such as the beach.
