    Resources for Courses

Teacher InstructionsThe CostLess Stakeholder Grid is an activity used to get students thinking about how businessdecisions can affect stakeholders. It can be used to develop application, analysis and evaluationThe activity can be carried out in pairs/ three’s. Each pair/ 3 need a grid and a 5 sided dice.

Activity 1In this activity, students roll a dice to allocate themselves a decision that CostLess have made.

1 Students throw the dice twice to allocate themselves a business decision. Students ignorethe bottom row of the grid. One throw is for the X-Axis and the other throw is for the Y-Axis.For example, if they throw a 4 and a 3 then this will be ‘Introduce a bonus scheme for allemployees’.

2 Once they have been allocated their business decision, there is a number of activities thatthe teacher can carry out:A Students discuss how this decision would affect all the stakeholders on the bottom row

of the grid (For the ‘Joker’ students can think of a different stakeholder – their choice)

B Students select the stakeholder that they think would be most affected by this businessdecision and discuss how this stakeholder group would be affected

C Students rank the stakeholder groups in order, ranging from most to least affected by thisbusiness decision

3 Once the above to steps have been carried out, the teacher can then develop the activityfurther by asking the students to do the following activityA Analyse one way in which the stakeholders of CostLess will be affected by their decision

    to (insert allocated decision)

4 If the teacher has asked students to rank the stakeholders in order of most affected to least affected, then a further activity could be:A To what extent do you believe that (insert most affected stakeholder) will be more affected

than (insert second most affected stakeholder) by the decision to (insert allocated decision).

Activity 2In this activity, students will roll the dice to ‘allocate’ themselves a stakeholder and also a decisionthat CostLess has decided to make.

1 Students roll the dice once for the bottom of the X-Axis. The square they land on is their allocated stakeholder. For example, if they throw a 2 then their stakeholder will be customers. If they throw a 5 then this is a ‘Joker’. This means they can choose any of the stakeholderson the grid or choose a different one, for example, the Government.

2 Students throw the dice twice to allocate themselves a business decision. Students ignorethe bottom row of the grid. One throw is for the X-Axis and the other throw is for the Y-Axis.For example, if they throw a 2 and a 4 then this will be ‘Announces plans to take over a rivalsupermarket chain’

3 Students then need to think about how the stakeholder they have been ‘allocated’ will beaffected by that business decision

4 Once the above to steps have been carried out, the teacher can then develop the activityfurther by asking the students to do the following activity:A Analyse one way in which the (insert allocated stakeholder) of CostLess will be affected

by their decision to (insert allocated decision).
