Solar refl ective, bituminous roofi ng membrane

Developed as one of IKO’s latest product innovations, Carrara’s mineral fi nish is coated with a special type of titanium dioxide (TiO2). The product has a Solar Refl ectance Index (SRI) of 82. SRI is a measure of the constructed surface’s ability to refl ect solar heat, as shown by a small temperature rise.

Innovative Technology • IKO’s new technology utilizes a Titanium Dioxide

(TiO2) compound which is coated onto the surface of Carrara. This coating, in combination with sunlight, has been proven to act as a catalyst to convert NOx into harmless nitrates. IKO has verifi ed this process (ISO 22197-1) through an independent laboratory study.

• Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) is a signifi cant contributor to air pollution. Formed during fuel combustion, NOx gases can form smog and acid rain and promote the formation of both fi ne particles and ozone.

• In humans, NOx primarily can affect respiration and increase the risk for other respiratory issues and susceptibility to allergens. High levels of NOx is a cause of leaf damage and reduced growth in vegetation. NOx also contributes to the formation of ground level ozone, which is associated with both adverse health effects and damage to vegetation.

Class A Fire Resistant and Durable• IKO PrevENtTM Graphite Technology reduces

the spread of fi re without the use of toxic fi re retardants. Low CO2 content means no harmful fumes and very low smoke density. Heat radiation is much more controlled and burning melting drips are reduced.

• IKO Carrara ArmourCool System undergoes fewer large temperature fl uctuations (compared to a dark surface) thus reducing potential issues with thermal shock.

Cost and Energy Effecient• Heat refl ective ArmourCoolTM granules keep the

surface temperature of the roof low making it eligible for LEED SS7.2 criteria.
