Where we’ve Been
Vietnam

Most exotic port we have visited. The Commodore and
Fleet Chief visited us to attend a Reception.
There was so much traffic in this port.
Because traffic is so bad most people drive
scooters. There are about 3 million scooters
in Ho Chi Minh
Vietnam Reception
4
Vietnam allowed us to have a fun reception that
was well attended.
It also allowed the High Commissioner to reach out to
local Vietnam residents and local business to attend.
Outreach - Teenagers Village
5
Vancouver attended a local orphanage called Teenagers Village. 20
– 25 members of Vancouver played with
children in the orphanage for the day.
Teenagers Village - Painting
6
Another 10 people spent the
day painting
the rooms where the children sleep. This
allowed us to build
Canada's profile in the area

Canada Sports Day

On 22 Oct, Vancouver participated in the CAF sports day. CAF
encourages all units to organize some form of sporting event to
promote sports and fitness. This day was organized by our PSP staff
Nick Pyke.
Halloween
11
Vancouver celebrated Halloween with squash carving. We couldn’t get pumpkins in the area so we
carved squashes. We had a department wide carving contest and the Engineering department
won
Brisbane
12
On our transit from Darwin to Brisbane, Vancouver transited the
Great Barrier Reef, it was a difficult transit, but a great view.
We were able to get ships company members in the
helicopter over the reef. We did about 10
flights that day, so many people got the
opportunity to see the reef from the sky.
13

Vancouver conducted
another river transit to reach Brisbane and
hosted a reception.

Remembrance Day
16
Vancouver conducted a
Remembrance Day ceremony
outside Auckland harbour.
Two NZ sailors that sailed with
Vancouver during
Southploy were able to visit that day
and partake in the ceremony
Ex Ngatahi
17
We then moved to the NZ operation
area and conducted OP Ngatahi. It was an Anti-Submarine
exercise that allowed us to work with an Australian Submarine and NZ
ships.From the
pictures you can see how
the weather is very similar
to Vancouver Island
18
OP Renaissance
As we were preparing to
visit Auckland for the
International Naval Review, we were asked by NZ to assist
with an earthquake
affected area. We then sailed
with a task group of 5 ships to the effected
area to distribute
supplies and provided
assistance. We arrived during a massive storm,
making it difficult to fly Helicopters.
Took about a day before we could
fly and get ashore to provide
assistance.
OP Renaissance
19
When the earthquake hit, mud slides blocked roads, damaged water and
sewer lines and cut the town off from the rest of NZ. Our sailors went
ashore to hand out food and water and go door to door to see how the community was doing and offer any
assistance they needed.
20
Sailors also fixed sewage lines, distributed
chemical toilets and dug up sewage/water lines so they could be repaired.
7 Ships, 5 helicopters and 1000s of sailors
assisted.
Wellington
We conducted a formation entrance and anchorage
into Wellington harbor and were visited by VADM
Lloyd, NZ High Commissioner and the
Deputy Prime Minister of NZ to thank us for our
assistance.
Auckland
Though we missed the International Naval
Review, we conducted our own mini review by
conducting a formation entry into Auckland. You
can see the ships company in their dress uniforms as
we pulled in.
Pago Pago
23
We didn’t end up making it to Fiji so we went to Pago Pago
for a brief fuel stop.
Crossing The Line
24
We were able to conduct another
crossing the equator line
ceremony. This is the 3rd ceremony
conducted by Vancouver this year.
