There is NO Holy Communion Service Monday, June 24th. Deacon

Kevin is out of town.

Father Draper will be on vacation Monday, July 1st through Fri-

day, July 12th. Father Kramer will be celebrating Masses and

Confessions during the week. Fr. Hilary, OFM Conv, will celebrate

Masses and Confessions on July 6th & 7th for our annual Mission

Coop.

Franciscan Mission Appeal On the weekend of July 6-7, as part of the Diocese of Rockford’s annual Missionary Cooperative Plan, there will be a collection at each Mass to support the missions of the Conventual Franciscan Friars. Fr. Hilary Raduk, OFM Conv., will preach at all Masses about the work his Order is doing to spread the Gospel throughout the world. Father Hilary was born in the Kibera slums of Nairobi, Kenya and entered the Franciscan Order in 1999. He was ordained a priest in 2012. His studies have taken him to Tanzania, Zambia, and even Poland, where he studied theology for 4 years. Fr. Hilary currently serves as the Managing Editor of the Franciscan friars’ printing press (Franciscan Kolbe Press) in Nairobi. The Conventual Franciscans number about 4,000 friars living in 70 countries spread over 6 continents. While the Conventual Franciscans are blessed to count many saints in their history, they are perhaps best known for being the Order to which St. Maximilian Kolbe belonged. The proceeds of the collection will support the education of young friars throughout Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America as well as the friars’ work among the poor in these regions. If you would like to support the missions of the Conventual Franciscans with a check, please make out the check in the name of your parish. We ask that you generously share the gifts that God has given to you!

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT ON FRIDAYS

AT ST. PATRICK’S CHURCH IN AMBOY

We have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Friday from 8:00a.m. until 5:00p.m. If you would like to come spend 30 minutes or more with the Blessed Sacrament, the time slots that would be in need of more than one Adorer are: 10:30-11:00a.m., 11:00-11:30a.m., 11:30-12:00a.m., 12:30-1:00p.m. and 2:30-3:00p.m. Please contact Bev at the parish office to commit to a time slot. You are also welcome to come whenever it works for you.

My dear parishioners, In his First Letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul tells us that

“the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, ‘This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me’” (1 Cor 11:23-25). With these words Christ instituted the Sacrament of the Most Holy Eu-charist. Through Christ’s words and the action of the Holy Spirit, the entire substance of bread is converted into the substance of his body, and the entire substance of wine is converted into the sub-stance of his blood. Thus, after these words of consecration at Mass, what was bread and wine is now truly, really, and substan-tially the body and blood of the risen Christ. The Holy Eucharist is the most excellent sacrament; because, while all the sacraments contain and give grace, the Holy Eucharist is the very Author of grace himself, Jesus Christ.

So excellent is the Holy Eucharist that the Church gives to us each year this Solemnity of Corpus Christi (Body of Christ), on which a plenary indulgence is granted to the faithful who meet the usual conditions and devoutly participate in a solemn Eucharis-tic procession, held inside or outside a church. Additionally, on any day of the year, a plenary indulgence is granted to the faithful who meet the usual conditions and visit the Blessed Sacrament for adoration lasting at least a half hour.

As the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, an indul-gence is “the remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sin whose guilt has already been forgiven…. An indul-gence is partial if it removes part of the temporal punishment due to sin, or plenary if it removes all punishment” (CCC, 1471). The usual conditions are:

† going to sacramental confession (within 20 days), † receiving Holy Communion, † praying for the intentions of the Pope (e.g. an Our Fa-

ther and a Hail Mary). At the end of the 9 a.m. Sunday Mass in Amboy, there

will be a Eucharistic procession in the church, followed by a Eu-charistic Holy Hour (10 – 11 a.m.). Come, let us adore him! Fr. Draper
