LITURGY COMMITTEE Lent is fast approaching [February 10th]. The Liturgy Committee will meet this Tuesday, January 19th at 6:30pm in the rectory meeting room to plan for Lent. I apologize for the short notice.

“RENEWED IN CHRIST” For seven years now some of us have been participating in two RENEW INTERNATIONAL programs: “Arise Together in Christ” and “Why Catholic?”. The Tuesday evening group has opted to continue on its own. Tentatively, we will view a brief film for discussion, and then look at the readings, especially the gospel, for the coming Sunday. The Tuesday group will start up on February 16th from 6:30-8pm in the rectory meeting room and continue for six weeks. The Monday afternoon group [1-2:30pm] could begin on February 15th [Presidents' Day] or hold off for a week. They are welcome to take the lead of the Tuesday group or come up with their own plan/program. All are welcome.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL We will meet this Monday, January 18th at 7pm in the rectory meeting room. Fr. Mawn This Monday Jan. 18th, MLK day, there will be choir practice. The following Monday Jan 25th there will be no choir practice.

The Rectory will be closed this Monday, Jan. 18th for the Holiday: “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day”. Mass will be at 9:00am in the lower church.

The officers of the St. Rita’s Sodality will

be collecting dues, starting on Saturday, January 9,

2016 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the month

of January the at the rectory.

THE DUES ARE $20.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM Classes are held at the parish center on Sundays as scheduled from 10:15am to 11:45am. Sessions consist of catechetical instruction, creative activities, as well as sacrament preparation at all ages. Registration may be done at the Parish Center on your child’s first class day. Registration however, is on-going throughout the year. For questions or concerns, you may call the Director of Religious Education, Mary Crow, at 978-504-9308, or call Ivette Chakar at the rectory at 978-685-1711.She will assist you in English or Spanish.

AWAY FOR THE WINTER!

In the event that you will be away for a good portion of the winter; please notify the Rectory Office so that we may discontinue mailing your envelopes. Tell us how long you will be away and we will resume mailings upon your return. If you would like to keep up with what’s going on in the Parish, we would be happy to send the bulletin to your winter address.

To Jesus Through Mary Formation of a Junior Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality

We would like to form a Junior Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality as an extension to the existing Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality.

We are reaching out to our young girls, and if we are lucky enough maybe young boys would like to join, with the hope that we can accomplish this in 2016, knowing full well that it will not happen unless parents participate. Our curriculums can become overloaded at times, but we really need to free up some time as a community of believers to honor by devotion and prayer the Mother of Jesus.

We hope that there will be some interest even if we start off small. The amount of time spent will be minimal considering how much time we spend on everything else.

I have ordered a video entitled “Mary of Nazareth”. It has a 2-3 week delivery date and the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality will be sponsoring a time to view this movie with light refreshments to follow.

Parents of religious education children (girls and boys) will be invited to join their children. Updates will follow as we move forward.

A favorite breakfast place in our town brags about its choice of twenty different jellies and jams for your morning toast, 8 different types of coffee and at least 20 different combinations of eggs, home fries, and meat. The owners say, “If you can’t find something good to eat here, you won’t find something good anywhere!” If nothing else, variety is the spice of breakfast!

The Holy Spirit comes to everyone, but not everyone receives the same gifts. We are all different, capable of offering to the church a unique gift, ability or talent. God’s grace allows us to make His gifts our own so that we can complete the mission entrusted to us. It is the perfect blend of divine grace and human nature, all given by God. In teaching, healing, forgiving and preaching, we bring the Gospel message in a unique way to all those we meet.

Community—church—can be an untidy thing. It would be easier if everything were more predictable, more stable and more acceptable. Gifted in so many ways, the Church must reach out to all people and places, in ways and means we may not fully understand or appreciate. Let’s give others the benefit of the doubt. Allow their gifts to be used so that the Gospel can be proclaimed to all people, even those who hear us. ~James Gaffney, © 2009 Karides Lic. to St. George Publishing

Did you know that approximately 22,000 students attend 79 Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Boston?

The Archdiocese of Boston is holding a special second collection during the weekend of January 16-17. The purpose of this collection is to help Catholic elementary schools in our Archdiocese assist more families with demonstrated financial need and to help grow enrollment. If your parish is associated with a school, your school will receive 50% of the funds collected at your parish. The remaining funds will be distributed to other schools in the Archdiocese of Boston.

In our Archdiocese:

96% of Catholic school students matriculate to college

Catholic elementary school students score well above average on national assessments

Studies show that Catholic school students are:

Academically more confident with greater proficiency in writing and public speaking

Attending Mass more frequently

More tolerant of diverse views

More engaged in their communities and more likely to volunteer
