Father Paul’s Reflections on the Readings

23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s readings both Prophet Ezekiel and Jesus remind us of the importance of frater-nal correction. Though today’s society pre-fers to celebrate and trumpet the faults and failures of others, Jesus wants us his follow-ers to correct those who offend or go wrong in charity and bring them back to the main-stream of life. Outright rejection of the per-sons, no matter who they are and what they have done, has no place in Jesus’ under-standing. For him all are children of God and he sends rain and sunshine on the good and the wicked alike. God is willing to offer his forgiveness to those who opt to go away from him, and it was precisely for that reason, that Jesus was sent. Jesus’ mission was to seek and save the lost. Jesus tells us, “if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault.” The primary purpose of correction is not fault finding but reconciliation, which is best done on a one-to-one basis and not as a public tribunal. The Good Shepherd gave his life for us! Most people go through life trying to ‘mind their own business’! But as Chris-tians we cannot live only for ‘I’, ‘me’, ‘myself’, but are asked to take responsibility for oth-ers. Jesus is not merely giving practical or psychological advice about how to get along with others, but is reminding us that the Christian life is a life lived with others and for others.

PREP (Parish Religious Education Program) will be begin-ning again in late September! We are looking to gauge interest in families who would like to attend Religious Prep for the 2020-2021 school year. The Prep program offers an opportunity for the youth of the Parish, grades Kindergar-ten through Eighth Grade, that are not enrolled in Catholic School, to receive religious education and sacrament prep-aration. In order for a child to receive his/her sacraments such as First Reconciliation, First Communion, and/or Con-firmation, they must be enrolled in the PREP program the year prior to the celebration of the sacrament, as well as the year they will receive the sacrament. If you are inter-ested in attending Religious Ed, please contact our either Parish Secretary, Amanda Maul at (304)277-2911 or [email protected], or our Director of Reli-gious Prep, Jennifer Hempelmann, at (304)280-8387 or [email protected]. We are working to ensure that we are able to reopen safely and following the guidelines given to us by the Diocese, so please bare with us as we also learn to adjust to the new normal of the current pan-demic.

A Letter from Father Paul

Dear Parishioners,

I hope you all enjoying this hot summer, staying safe and following all restrictions in order to stay safe from the Covid-19 Virus.

It has now been about three months since we have reopened our celebration of Mass to the public. During this time, we have had fewer in attendance on Sunday masses. We are strictly following all government directives and making sure that nobody is getting infected by the dead-ly virus. So far, no case has been linked to our churches in the diocese of Wheeling-Charleston because of attending Mass, Thank God. I al-ways pray for you all.

Our Bishop has instructed us to go back to nor-malcy as best we can. Sunday obligation is still cancelled, but it is encouraged that everyone who is healthy and young to resume going back to church. We are a sacramental people. For Catholics, sacramental life is important to keep their faith alive and active. There is great danger in feeling comfortable with live streaming mass in the long run. I know many of you have missed the Holy communion and social gatherings in our parish. In order to resume our social gather-ings, we must wait until we hear from our civil authorities. I encourage all, who are healthy and feeling comfortable, to resume their Sunday mass attendance and for all others to stay home safely.

May the Lord help us to pass through this diffi-cult time and bring us to the world of safety and good health.

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead and I keep you all in my prayers,

Fr. Paul

Pastor.

CCS Friends,

We are excited to announce that we have met our goal of $25,000 for the Caring Crusader Campaign! Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have been busy making upgrades to keep our students and teachers safe and healthy.

We are also planning for scenarios that may be difficult to face, including:

• Students who need additional financial assistance to return due to loss of household income

• Increased school expenses due to the need for PPE and sanitization products • Additional cleaning procedures

• Need for operating assistance to offset potential income losses

As the new school year starts on September 8th, the necessity for additional support of our school continues. We have extended the campaign until October 1st with a new goal of $30,000. We appreciate your time and considera-tion as we overcome this difficult setback due to COVID-19.

If you would like to make a gift to the "Caring Crusader Campaign", please send your check into the Parish Office or

school at 1512 Warwood Ave. or visit our secure website https://corpuschristiwheeling.com/giving/ . If you have

questions, please call Miranda Zambito, Advancement Director 304-830-1572.

Thank you for your meaningful support of Corpus Christi School!
