Pastor’s Notes

It’s hard to believe that seven Sundays have passed since we last celebrated public Masses because of the world-wide pandemic. And yes, our Church doors have remained open every day at least for a few hours; to allow your personal prayers before the Blessed Sacrament to be present and powerful to Christ who suffers with us, and Christ who will raise us up! Even in the isolation and emptiness of our lives under COVID-19, how fulfilling it is to see people coming to Corpus Christi by themselves or with family members (always respecting social distancing and mask wearing), to offer prayers for the sick, the suffering, the slain. We missed the latter weeks of Lent in March. We missed Holy Week in April. And now it appears we will miss a good portion of May with First Communions, Confirmations, Baptisms and Weddings. All of these sacred ceremonies will be re-scheduled at later dates this year. And especially all Funeral Masses we have been missing will become Memorial Masses, so families can join together in remembering our loved ones who have died during this crisis. May is also a special month for our Blessed Virgin Mother, to whom we should all be praying the Rosary in our homes for Her intersession. Please include this profound prayer written recently by Pope Francis to Mary, for all our planet in this time of pandemic. Bishop Andrzej, your priests, Deacon Brian, and all the parish staff are in good health; praying for you all. Occasionally some of the staff come in to do essential tasks of cleaning/maintenance, helping the poor/needy families through outreach, and assuring the ministries/services to God’s people. Fr. Tomaz has been especially wonderful in offering “virtual Masses” in all three languages through the internet! May the Spirit of Jesus guide us gracefully through these challenging times, and bring us all back to our spiritual home of Corpus Christi. Yours in Christ, Father Malcolm P.S. Thank you once again for keeping up your tremendous sacrificial giving to our parish by your strong financial support. Like all small businesses, we are suffering without a healthy cash-flow. So your generosity is greatly appreciated until we all begin to recover.

Prayer to Our Blessed Virgin Mary

By Pope Francis

“We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God”.

In the present tragic situation, when the whole world is prey to suffering and anxiety, we fly to you, Mother of God and our Mother, and seek refuge under your protection. Virgin Mary, turn your merciful eyes towards us amid this coronavirus pandemic. Comfort those who are distraught and mourn their loved ones who have died, and at times are buried in a way that grieves them deeply. Be close to those who are concerned for their loved ones who are sick and who, in order to prevent the spread of the disease, cannot be close to them. Fill with hope those who are troubled by the uncertainty of the future and the consequences for the economy and employment. Mother of God and our Mother, pray for us to God, the Father of mercies, that this great suffering may end and that hope and peace may dawn anew. Plead with your divine Son, as you did at Cana, so that the families of the sick and the victims be comforted, and their hearts be opened to confidence and trust. Protect those doctors, nurses, health workers and volunteers who are on the frontline of this emergency, and are risking their lives to save others. Support their heroic effort and grant them strength, generosity and continued health. Be close to those who assist the sick night and day, and to priests who, in their pastoral concern and fidelity to the Gospel, are trying to help and support everyone. Blessed Virgin, illumine the minds of men and women engaged in scientific research, that they may find effective solutions to overcome this virus. Support national leaders, that with wisdom, solicitude and generosity they may come to the aid of those lacking the basic necessities of life and may devise social and economic solutions inspired by farsightedness and solidarity. Mary Most Holy, stir our consciences, so that the enormous funds invested in developing and stockpiling arms will instead be spent on promoting effective research on how to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future. Beloved Mother, help us realize that we are all members of one great family and to recognize the bond that unites us, so that, in a spirit of fraternity and solidarity, we can help to alleviate countless situations of poverty and need. Make us strong in faith, persevering in service, constant in prayer. Mary, Consolation of the afflicted, embrace all your children in distress and pray that God will stretch out his all-powerful hand and free us from this terrible pandemic, so that life can serenely resume its normal course. To you, who shine on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope, do we entrust ourselves, O Clement, O Loving, O Sweet Virgin Mary. Amen.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As we celebrate the Third Sunday of Easter, the spread of COVID-19, in our Diocese is touching every one of you in one way or another. Nearly everyone has lost a loved one or a friend and it is certainly affecting how we go about our daily lives. I am particularly moved by a brief passage from the first reading this Sunday, from the Acts of the Apostles (2:14, 22-33):

“IsawtheLordeverbeforeme,withhimatmyrighthandIshallnotbedisturbed.Thereforemyhearthasbeengladandmytonguehasexulted;myflesh,too,willdwellinhope,

The Diocese of Rockville Centre is responding to the needs of Long Islanders both physically and spiritually, in a multitude of ways. One important element I would like to highlight in our Catholic community’s frontline response to the coronavirus pandemic is our Catholic Home Care.

Part of the Catholic Health Services of Long Island, Catholic Home Care is working harder than ever during this crisis. On most days, it now serves more than 3,000 patients in their own homes.

An increasing percentage of these visits are related to COVID-19 illness. As you can imagine, Catholic HomeCarecliniciansareoperatingunderextraordinarycircumstancesas theyperformthenecessaryvisitingnurse calls; physical and occupational therapy visits; medical social services counseling sessions; andhomehealthaideservicesinpatients’homes.

Moreover, Catholic Home Care is innovating through the pandemic crisis to expand care through itsTelehealth Program. Telehealth services are staffed by specially-trained clinicians, and patients areprovidedwithtelemonitoringdevicestomonitortheirhealthmultipletimeseachday.

You are invited to participate in the daily Mass and other spiritual programing on the Catholic Faith Network (CFN), the national television network based here in our own Diocese. A complete programming schedule is available at www.CFNtv.org. Many parishes are also offering video streamed Masses and other devotions online. Check your parish web site for availability.

Our prayer for you this week is that the risen Lord will watch over all of us during these challenging times and protect the clinicians and support staff of Catholic Home Care as they care for their patients. If you are able, I implore you to support Catholic Home Care and your parish with your prayers and with your philanthropic gifts. Please know that you and your family are remembered in my daily prayers and Masses.

Sincerely in Christ, Most Reverend John O. Barres Bishop of Rockville Centre

THE CORPUS CHRISTI “CONTINUING THE EDUCATIONAL MISSION” SCHOLARSHIP AWARD COLLEGE APPLICATION

SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MAY 15, 2020!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are pleased to announce the creation of the Corpus Christi “Continuing the Educational Mission” Scholarship award. Even though our beloved parish school has closed, the mission of educating the young people of our parish continues. It is in this spirit that the scholarship award has been established. A committee of educators from grammar school, middle school, high school and college educators as well as members from the financial community was formed and worked on this program for a number of months and developed this scholarship. Two young people from our parish, will each be awarded a $5,000 scholarship toward their education. The scholarship award will be given to a student who currently attends or will be attending a local Catholic High School in September 2020 and to a matriculated college student carrying a course load of a minimum 12 credits/semester who currently attends or will be attending, full time, a 2-4 year college or university in September 2020. The scholarship will be paid directly to the school, college or university in two equal payments, one half for the fall semester and the second half for the spring semester. The funding for these scholarships will come directly from the investment income earned from the proceeds of the sale of the Searing Avenue properties and not from any weekly or special parish collections. The announcement of the scholarship recipients will be made on or about June 14th. The scholarship is for one year. For information on the eligibility requirements, application, timelines for submission and all related documents for this scholarship award, please visit our parish website at www.corpuschristi-mineola.net Please direct any questions regarding this scholarship to Deacon Brian Mannix at the rectory.

Dear Parents and Students, Our Religious Education Classes would have officially ended this week for the current academic year. God bless our dedicated Catechists who helped you to prepare for Lent and Easter right before classes had to be cancelled. Mrs. Cabo and I will be sending you your study guides which you would have been working on during these past weeks. The guides are a good way to close out the year and to prepare for the next level. We look forward to Jesus’ Ascension, Pentecost, Feast of the Holy Trinity, and the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. Remember to pray and to “attend” Mass on Sunday. Through YouTube, we can still come to Mass at Corpus Christi Church or another Catholic Church in the country and even the world! We miss you and we look forward to the days when we can pray together. Sincerely, Mrs. Anaischik

Fourth Sunday of Easter

First Reading – Isaiah 7:10-14 • Mary is the first disciple of Jesus. She accepted God’s will without question. As Christian stewards, do we do the same?

Psalm 24:1-6 • A steward is richly blessed who places God above all things.

Second Reading – Romans 1:1-7 • A good steward, through reading Scripture, seeks the gifts of faith, grace, and peace from God through Jesus Christ. • God calls all of us to be holy.

Gospel – Matthew 1:18-24 • Stewards joyfully acknowledge Emmanuel — “God is with us” — as God’s ultimate gift for our salvation. • Like Joseph, Christian stewards put their complete trust in God.

Eu sou a porta.
