Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord April 16, 2017

Dear Parishioners: He is Risen - He is truly Risen!!!! This past week has been truly been a Holy Week for us. In liturgy, procession, word and song we have prayerfully celebrated the great mystery of our faith that the Lord Jesus who suffered and died for us on the cross on Good Friday is risen from the dead. This has been a Holy Week for us, not only because of the liturgies that we have had the opportunity to participate in, but because it has given each of us an opportunity to proclaim and deepen our faith in the risen Lord Jesus Christ.

We congratulate the newly baptized and confirmed and pray that the celebration of the Easter Sacraments will be a source of strength and joy for her as she continues on her journey of faith. A special word of thanks to our teenagers who presented a Passion Play to the parish on Palm Sunday. Their efforts provided all of us with a beautiful beginning to Holy Week. I also want to take this opportunity to thank all who were responsible for helping with all of the liturgies throughout the week. The priests and deacons always get credit for the beautiful liturgies, but the truth is so many contribute to the beauty of our celebrations. To all who planned and prepared for the processions and liturgies, to those who decorated the church, to our choir, ministers, lectors, servers and ushers, to all of you who participated so prayerfully in the celebrations of Holy Week - THANK YOU. Holy Thursday and The Easter Vigil are always special but this year we had the joy of our English and Spanish music ministries coming together to lead us in music and song for these liturgies. The amount of coordination and practice was incredible. I want to thank our Director of Music, Mr. Matthew LaBanca, as well as Jacobo Gomez, all of our musicians and the choirs for devotion to the liturgy and your desire to con-tribute to the beauty of these very special celebrations. May the grace and peace of the Risen Lord Jesus be with you this Easter Day and throughout the Easter season. In Christ,

Fr. West

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord April 16, 2017

West

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord April 16, 2017

Perpetual Adoration at Corpus Christi

We try to provide an atmosphere of qui-et reflection in the Chapel. We invite everyone to pray silently before the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament when you come for a visit.

We thank all Guardians of the Eucharist for their love, fidelity, and commitment to Jesus in the Eu-charist. We encourage you to get to know the guardians before and after you. Please try to be on time for your hour. The person before you may have another com-mitment and is counting on you to be on time.

SENIOR CLUB The Senior Club meets every

Thursday from noon to 3:00 PM is the SS Peter & Paul Dining Room, behind the Chapel on 60th

Street. New members are always welcome. Next week we will have pizza, compliments of Lucille Arzano to celebrate Mary Arzano’s 95th birthday.

FOOD PANTRY Our Easter distribution to our

Food Pantry clients was a big success! Thank you to all of our parishioners who donated the funds to make this possible. God Bless You and Happy Easter from Sharon, Karen, Jean, Bridie, Marion and Rita.

ANNUAL VOTIVE CANDLES Lighting candles is an honored tradition here at Corpus Christi and is really a much welcomed form of prayer. Votive or Vigil lights signify prayer to God or one of the Saints on behalf of someone, an intention, or our prayer for a de-ceased loved one, or ourselves. The candle keeps vigil, or watch, and continues day and night as a symbol of our ongoing prayer for the intention or the person. Many people light a candle every week, but don’t always get around to it for whatever rea-son. If that someone is you, you may wish to consider participating in the Corpus Christi An-nual Votive Candle Program. A donation of $100 will ensure that a Votive Candle will burn daily in Corpus Christi Church for 52 week to memorialize your intention. Do-nations can be made at anytime during the year at the Rectory office.

Many members of our parish have served our country in the military. When a veteran passes away and is buried in a National Cemetery, the

family receives an American flag in gratitude for the service of their loved ones.

We would like to honor our veterans by flying their flag on our flagpole. If you have an American flag at home that you would like to lend to the parish in memory of a loved one, please bring it to the rectory. We will fly it for one month and then return the flag to you. The name of your loved one will appear in the bulletin for the month his or her flag is displayed.

Also, if there is a member of your family who is serv-ing in the armed forces now and you would like to honor their service with a flag to fly in their honor please drop off a flag for us to fly with the name and the branch of the service they are in.

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

Lord of the Harvest, we petition you as you have instructed us to ask for more laborers to serve in the vineyard of your Church. You have told us that the harvest is rich and laborers are few and we experi-ence this great need in the face of the challenge of the New Evangelization.

We ask the Holy Spirit to inspire young men and women to seriously consider vocations to the priest-hood and religious life. Help all of us to be effective instruments to encourage and support those whom you are calling to serve and lead the Church of Brooklyn and Queens in the future.

Lord, you told the Apostles to put out into the deep. We ask for the grace and courage to respond to your call as we pray and work for an increase in voca-tions to the priesthood and religious life. We ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ, the Great
