Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School

11th October 2019

Thank You As we approach our final week of half-term, it has

been marvellous to see that the children are still

working hard to be the best that they can be.

Throughout the week, we have had some visitors to

our school who have all been very complimentary of

the children’s manners, their work ethic, their effort

in their work and the school environment.

It also made me feel extremely proud to be the Prin-

cipal at Corpus Christi when I received an email from

a member of the public who commended the exem-

plary behaviour of our Year six children when he met

them on their return from Plas-Dol-Y-Moch. We

have continued to hear some amazing stories of

their time there alongside some very informative

leaflets that they have produced.

Year five and six also had the privilege of attending

the Romero mass at St Patrick’s Catholic Church on

Wednesday for the Feast day of John Henry New-

man who will be canonised this weekend in Rome.

The rest of the school enjoyed joining Archbishop

Bernard in a live streamed service for the Adoration

of the Blessed Sacrament.

Our school football team had their first match this

week against St Elizabeth’s and they all played ex-

tremely well as a team showing the true Corpus

Christi spirit, emerging with a victorious 8-2 victory.

Our doors will be open to parents on Tuesday at

9.00am and 5.30pm if parents wish to speak with

myself regarding the parent survey or any improve-

ments that you feel could make our school even

better: I look forward to seeing you then.

Have a lovely weekend!

Year 2

This week Year Two would like to take the oppor-tunity to share in our successes. Within English, we have all become young authors writing our own stories. We have innovated the story ‘The Gingerbread Man’ creating our very own special versions. We have invented our own gingerbread biscuits based at Corpus Christi, which have been chased by some very interesting characters such as Mr Shakespeare. The children have worked so hard to improve their handwriting and punc-tuation which you can see below.

As well as being fan-tastic authors, Year Two have also been scientists. This week we have investigated different materials properties. We have worked together to investigate which material would make the best bucket to stop the Great Fire of London spread-ing. We worked as groups to make buckets using metal, paper, fabric and plastic. The children loved testing their buckets and finding out which

one would be most wa-terproof. Have a look at our amaz-ing investiga-tion below.

Catholic Life and Collective Worship

On Wednesday year 5 and 6 joined the Romero Academy and contribut-

ed beautifully for our 4th Romero Mass. From the singing, the musicians, the dance, the prayers and the IT everything worked beautifully together. Sincere thank you to you all! Hopefully the children will remember where they were on the Feast of Cardinal Newman soon to be Saint!

In preparation for transition to secondary school, pupils in Year 5 and 6 can bring a mo-bile phone if they walk unaccompanied by an adult to and from school. The phone must be handed in, switched off, given to the teacher first thing in the morning, and collected from them by the child at home time. Parents are advised that Corpus Christi accepts no liability for the loss or damage to mobile phones which are brought into school or school grounds. Mobile phones are only to be used for texting/phoning parents or carers to

acknowledge safe arrival at school or to make arrangements for the end of the day. If the latter needs to be done in school time, a pupil will be asked to do this under staff supervision. Mobile phones will be confiscat-ed and returned at the end of the day should these rules not be adhered to.

Early years

You may have noticed work is well underway in the Early year’s outdoor learning space. There may be some further disruption next week, and the children will use the key stage 1 playground for outdoor learning. We are hoping drop off and pick up should carry on as normal, but will keep you updated if anything changes. We look for-

ward to the finished result when we return after half term.

Our houses were established 10 years ago and the names were inspired by major Coventry landmarks. The 3 spires and Lady Godiva, creating Christchurch, Trinity, St Michaels and Godiva. The previous years Vice Captains become House Captains each year, they are all in Year 6 and are fantas-tic role models for the school: Jacob, Sophia, Alan and Oliwia. Every child is assigned a house and each week the house points from each class are collected. Children are awarded house points for effort and achievement in their learning, for demonstrating excellent man-ners and care for others an modelling our school rules. This is recorded on the House Point wall in the school hall and published on our newsletters and school website. In the summer term Sports Day is all about team work - each child represents their own house. In every event the child that comes 1st, 2nd or 3rd is awarded points and the house with the most points. These points are added to the running totals for each house and an overall winner is declared. The house cup is awarded to the house that has collectively gathered the highest number of points.
