Engineering & Assets

Mylor Oval

We have recently removed and replaced the 30 year old permapine fence from the front

boundary of the Mylor Oval.

The existing gates to the oval were damaged during the recent storms and are currently

being repaired. When completed they will be reinstalled and the job will be complete.

Local residents and the Oval Committee are very happy with the improvements.

New clubhouse for Mylor Tennis and Netball Courts

Now weather conditions have improved, site works for the new clubhouse at the Mylor

Tennis & Netball Courts will commence this week.

The local sporting groups had obtained grant funding for the new clubhouse some time ago,

however delays associated with securing Native Title Clearance have delayed the project for

nearly 3 years.

The new clubhouse will replace the existing building and shelter area, which is located too

close to the creek and does not comply with current health regulations.

Council’s contribution ($21,000) to the project is to undertake the earthworks at the new

location and construct a retaining wall around the back of the site, to ensure the new building

is protected from possible land slips.

Siting of the new building had to be in an area above known flood levels from the nearby

Leslie Creek and adjacent the existing Toilet block at the courts.

Oakbank Street, Stirling

A rubble footpath has been installed from the top section of Oakbank Street down the

existing oval path that runs back to Mount Barker Road. The existing path from adjacent the

club rooms back to Oakbank Street has been blocked off as per Council’s recommendations

for its 26 July meeting.

Flood Repairs

We are also hoping to start much need repair works on some the flood damaged roads in

early December once quotes have been submitted and the successful contactor has been

notified. One of our priorities will be opening Burdetts Road, Basket Range to through traffic.

Promoting Council’s Businesses at Trade & Investment Fair

As part of Council’s Economic Development initiatives, our Council, along with other Councils

promoted local business opportunities at the Immigration SA and Australia China Business Council’s

“Invest in Regional SA” Trade and Investment Fair held at the Adelaide Town Hall. This was a unique

opportunity to assist businesses in our region to generate leads and get in front of and present their

products to 110 – 150 high net worth Chinese potential buyers and investors with a demonstrated

interest in South Australian regional products.

Creating our theme around our World Heritage Bid (intensive agriculture from our productive

landscape) four businesses professionally and impressively showcased our region. Fresh apples and

pears, juices, perrys, ciders, gins and chocolate figs were all part of the beautiful combined display

from Mahnew Orchard, Ashton Valley Juices, Paracombe Premium Perry and Willabrand.

A bit of fun was added by Crunch – a walking/talking apple – roaming the hall.

Stirling Petrol Station redevelopment to commence shortly

The redevelopment of the old Stirling Petrol Station was granted development approval for stage 1

of the redevelopment (demolition) on 2 November 2016 by the State’s Development Assessment

Commission (DAC) for demolition of the existing structures. Staff have been notified by the

applicant that the demolition works are to commence next week. However, we are not sure when

the approval for the construction of the new buildings will be approved at this stage and will provide

a further update as soon as that information is forthcoming.

Update on the World Heritage Bid Project

Stage 1 (National Heritage Listing) of this project is on track for lodgement with the Federal

Government in February 2017. The bid documentation for Stage 1 has been reviewed and revised

by Dr Susan Marsden, the former State Historian and immediate past President of the History

Council of South Australia. Further independent peer reviews of the nomination documentation will

also be undertaken by three imminent experts and the Department of Environment, Water and

Natural Resources. This is to give the Bid the best chance of success and is anticipated to be

completed before Christmas, after which the Project Management Group will finalise the

nomination documentation for submission to the Federal Government. It should be noted that

extensive stakeholder and public consultation has been undertaken over the past 2 months with

workshops being held in the southern (Onkaparinga & Alexandrina) , central (Adelaide Hills) and

northern (Barossa & Light) parts of the region to be listed. Details of the comments received will

form part of the nomination documentation. A further update on the progress of this iconic project

will be provided once the nomination has been lodged with the Federal Government.

Update on Development Plan Amendments

The following updates are provided in relation to the three Development Plan Amendments

currently being undertaken by Council:

1. Townships & Urban Areas Development Plan Amendment: This DPA was approved by SPDPC

and Council in September and lodged with the Minister for approval as required by 30

September. Staff advise that DPTI and the Minister are still reviewing the DPA and it is hoped

that a formal response will be received before Christmas.

2. Primary Production Lands Development Plan Amendment: The revised Statement of Intent

(SOI) was considered and approved by Council’s Strategic Planning & Development Policy

Committee (SPDPC) earlier this month and lodged for approval with DPTI on 14 November for

the Minister’s approval. Staff will continue with the preparation of this DPA once approval of

the revised SOI has been received from the Minister.

3. Local Heritage Development Plan Amendment: Stage 1 of this DPA will be reported to Council

for its consideration on 13 December before it is forwarded to the Minister for approval to

commence public consultation and interim operation. It is anticipated that public consultation

on this DPA will occur in early 2017.

At the South Australian PIA Awards for Planning Excellence Dinner on Friday 18 November, Marc
