Our Commitment:
‘Open Defecation Free West Bengal’by March 2017
Magnitude of the problem
•Baseline Survey 2012-13 identified 1.51 croe households out of which 67.77 lakh households lack basic sanitation facility within the premises•Out of 3349 Gram Panchayats in the State, 1072 have been declared ‘Nirmal’ leaving 2277 GPs to cover in three years
Magnitude of the problem
•Even in declared ‘Nirmal Gram Panchayats’ , the baseline survey has identified several thousands of households lacking appropriate sanitation facilities•Although we have covered more than 90% of the Schools with basic sanitation facilities, the revised RTE norm of one School Toilet Block per 80 students increased the task manifold
Magnitude of the problem
•The State Government faces enormous challenge in addressing the issue of sanitation facilities at ICDS Centres not in Government buildings•Operation & Maintenance of Community Sanitary Complexes is a major challenge•SLWM is another area of concern
Our plan and activities
•Pledge to achieve Open Defecation Free (ODF) status by 2017•Identified 844 Gram Panchayats for achieving Nirmal status in 2014-15 and the rest in following two years
