EX-DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

At B. K. School of Business Management, our endeavour is to create a pool of talented professionals who have the knowledge, ability and above all, the right attitude and resilience to work in their chosen area of specialisation. The goal of our management programme is to provide trained manpower for the growing maritime sector in the state as well as the country.

A two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Port Management was started by the Gujarat University at B. K. School of Business Management in the year 2006. The School and the Gujarat

University recognised the significance of Maritime Management and now the programme is converted as a full-fledged MBA programme in Maritime Management with several specializations.

The School and the alumni have developed a strong network with several organisations in the Maritime industry. The students who have passed out of this programme are now spread all over the country and abroad also.

The School has strived to provide a balanced approach towards the theoretical and practical aspects of the programme. A number of practitioners from relevant fields are associated with the programme as visiting faculties. The School has been fortunate to get help and support from several organizations in the maritime field for providing short-term and long-term training opportunities and final placements of our students.

I have great pleasure to present the profiles of our latest batch of students for their long-term training and final placements. I hope you will be able to find suitable candidates to meet your organisational needs.

With best wishesDr. Sarla AchuthanEx-DirectorB. K. School of Business ManagementGujarat University4

BKSBM is thankful to all the industries who have given a chance to the students to get a practical view.

This has helped the students to get a realistic view of the industries, and relate it to what is written in the books.

The students also learnt about the bottlenecks faced by the respective industries.

Overall the visits were successful in terms of the insights the students received about supply chain management and logistics management.

They also opened doors for further interactions and industrial assignments.

WHY RECRUIT FROM BKSBM?

This batch is a mixture of students from various backgrounds and expe-riences. This will help the recruiters to select the students as per their needs.

Students are taught by the professors who are highly experienced in the field.

Students are exposed to the field during their two months internship.

Only course providing MBA in Mariti-me Management in Gujarat. There are only two such courses in India.

Guest Lectures, workshops and indus-try visits throughout the year provide a holistic learning experience to the students.

BKSBM is the pioneer for starting Maritime Management course and this course has been continiously validated and updated as per the needs of industry

India is becoming an industrial hub. As per the plan of central government for inclusive growth, investments are flowing in through FDI routes for the development of industries. To support the activities of these industries, huge amount of transport and logistics infrastructure has to be made available.

The two year Full time MBA-Maritime Management Program has been painstakingly designed in consultation with leading figures from the Maritime Industry to equip current and future Maritime leaders with the skills, knowledge and tools they need to manage their business successfully.

The MBA - Maritime Management spread over four semesters, combines current theory with the practical skills and techniques required for managing all aspects of an organization such as Operation, Marketing & Finance, through the whole Organization Strategic Analysis and Planning with special reference to the Maritime sector.

Maritime sector is a unique sector because it is not related to a specific country or region but has global implications. Any change in one part of this sector has ripple eect on the other part. To understand this, one needs to be very special. This course has been designed to cater only to the requirements of this particular sector. We are being taught the management concepts while taking in account this particular sector. We are aware about the basic terminologies, processes, regulatory framework, international standards, etc. It will be very dicult for a regular MBA student to have such an in-depth know-how as soon as one joins the corporate world. The mind-set of our students have been framed to get the conceptual view of maritime sector.

As per the course architecture, the students also have the know-how regarding other basic subjects that are taught to regular MBAs. The subjects like HRM, Financial Management and Cost Accounting, Strategic Management, Marketing Management, Economics, Operation Research and Quantitative Techniques, Organisational Behaviour, Infrastructure Management and Information Technology are taught with special emphasis on Maritime sector.

So, it makes sense for the organizations to hire us, rather than hiring a regular MBA for whom more time will be spent on training and getting familiar with maritime sector.

One more point is that the students who are electing to work for ports are knowing the diculties that, they are likely to face. These students have dedicated themself for ports even after knowing the challenges and working conditions at ports. Hence, candidates are mentally ready for such challenges.

How are we dierent?

PLACEMENT PROCESSAfter thirty seven glorious years of enjoying the faith of the corporate world in our students as well as faculty, expressed through successful final placements and summer internships, B. K. School of Business Management looks forward to continue the trend in its thirty eighth year. Every year reputed corporates are invited to the campus for summer and final placements.

The placement brochure, containing the detailed description of the college, the MBA Maritime Management programme and its students would act as the recruiters' guide.

We welcome the companies to conduct their pre-placement talk from the first week of October. This would provide the students with an opportunity to better appreciate the companies' future plans, growth prospects, job opportunities and job profiles. On the other hand, it will help the company make its presence felt on the campus and attract fresh managerial talent.

Company’s Visit

Final Semester as per Placement Training

Companies are invited to schedule their presentations starting from the first week of October, 2014. Companies may also send promotional information prior to the presentations. The interested companies may communicate in writing or send an e-mail along with details like preferred dates, modalities in placement procedure, job profiles, etc.

The placement team would then co-ordinate with the companies and finalize placement schedules at mutually convenient dates. After the presentations, resumes of the interested students are sent to the company.

The companies may send the details of their selection procedure which will enable the college to make necessary arrangements at the campus.

Each student selected through this placement process will be required to complete one semester as pre-employment training. The training culminates in the submission of a detailed project report of the training and a presentation of the same for evaluation process.

Only those students, who have successfully completed the training and have been evaluated, will be granted the Degree Certificate and will take up the regular employment as per mutual commitment.
