Customizing Memorabilia

Sports Obsession’s products can be customized and completed with various options. Some of the options include:

Plaquing

The plaque mounting process is permanent and durable.

First, your poster, print, photo, artwork is dry mounted to fibreboard that is cut to size. A thin matte or glossy plastic laminate sheet is then applied to the surface and heat sealed. The edges of the plaques are beveled and treated with one of the many colours available. Finally, the plaque is routed on the back, ready to hang.

In addition to the traditional plaque mounting method, float mount and flush mount plaques are available. The float mounted plaque is mounted on a thinner board and the finished plaque adhered on the back to a smaller wood frame. This process gives the plaque the appearance of 'floating' on the wall. The flush mounted plak is also mounted on thinner board, but it is secured to a deeper wooden frame that stands out from the wall for a greater three dimensional effect.

Framing

Our framing is all done in-house by our distributors to ensure quality and prompt delivery especially for rush orders. Our framing is composed of high quality moulding, matting and glazing. Moulding is the term used to describe material that is cut and joined to be assembled into a picture frame. Wood and metal are the materials most commonly used to make moulding and are offered in a variety of stains, glazes and finishes. Our moulding can be designed to compliment your artwork by adding various finishes to our wood or metal. Matting is the term used to describe the window-cut material placed around an image within a frame. It serves as a spacer allowing the artwork to expand and contract with changes in humidity. Matting comes in a variety of colors and is chosen to complement the color and design of the artwork. Glazing is a general term used to describe the transparent material covering the artwork as a means of protection, such a glass. There are many variations including regular clear picture glass, anti-reflective (chemically coated to reduce reflection), non-glare (acid etched to help reduce glare), and conservation glass (specially formulated to help filter the damaging effects of UV light).

Laser Etching

All of our etching is done by our distributors to ensure the utmost in quality. Laser etching machines are utilized to eliminate the use of chemicals which were used to create the etching process years ago. Laser etching is the practice of using lasers to engrave or mark an object. The technique can be very technical and complex, and often a computer system is used to drive the movements of the laser head. Despite this complexity, very precise and clean engravings can be achieved at a high rate.

Matting

Most of our memorabilia is double matted by our distributor which ensures a sleek look which accents the print itself.

As mentioned earlier, quality matting is essential because it provides room in the frame allowing the artwork to expand and contract with changes in humidity. Matting comes in a variety of colors, styles and textures and is chosen to complement the color and design of the artwork. Suede and silk matting is also available.
