The new offices which started on site in April 2006 have office space as uncluttered as possible by partitions, allowing maximum flexibility and removing ‘ownership’ of rooms by departments thereby providing shared ownership. The design concept provides wings of open plan office space wrapped around a central full height atrium which contains a standalone oval core housing all the communal facilities. The development has the largest ground source heating bore-hole installation in the UK and has a BREEAM rating of “Excellent.” This is symbolic of the Local Authority’s commitment to sustainable development within the Borough and will centralize many of the Council services from ageing building stock into a single building. Redundant sites will then be released for further development which includes a new Community Hospital.
