Principal’s Report

Captain speechesLast week we listened to the Year 11 candidates who want to be captains and vice captains on our Student Representative Council for 2019. Students talked about their motivations for taking on this important leadership role, as well as generously sharing some of their life experiences. All students talked about what a superb school Corowa High School is. I agree. The votes from students and staff have been collated and the results will be formally announced at our assembly at the end of the term.

HSC trialsOur senior students have recently completed their HSC trial exams. Well done to all the students that improved their study habits to ensure they could demonstrate their understanding and skills comfortably. Our teachers are working hard to provide feedback to you as soon as possible in order to prepare you for your studies leading to the HSC. This is a good time to reflect on areas that you have excelled in and the areas that you can improve on by yourself or with your mentors.

Ellen Lavis is 2018 Premier’s ANZAC Ambassador I am incredibly proud to congratulate Ellen Lavis on being selected as a 2018 Premier’s ANZAC Ambassador. Ellen is one of six New South Wales students who have been selected to embark on a 10 day European tour of historical battlefields in October, visiting sites including Athens, Lemnos, Villers-Bretonneux, Passchendaele and London. Ellen and her fellow ambassadors will be accompanied by a delegation of NSW Parliamentarians on their European tour.

Ellen’s success is the result of an eloquently written 1000 word essay on the importance of the centenary of ANZAC for modern Australia, which she submitted to the ANZAC Ambassador competition during the school holidays. Congratulations on this magnificent achievement, Ellen!

ShoesPlease be reminded all that students are required to wear black fully enclosed lace-ups shoes or shoes with a T-bar everyday, except on Wednesday. Shoes should be leather or leather/synthetic environment. This uniform requirement maintains the safety of our students as they actively learn in the varied learning spaces at the school particularly Science and technical classes.

Practice Makes Perfect for Year 10 Job SeekersYear 10 students in Mrs Lake’s Careers class benefited greatly from their mock interview session with ATEL representative Jon Philpin on Tuesday. Students were encouraged to dress in an outfit

worthy of a job interview and practice their interpersonal skills with professional guidance.

Tegan Forge took out first place with her entertaining speech on how to play the ukulele. Loren Delaney was a close second with her explanation on how to draw an eye and Ryan Glare came in third, teaching his classmates how to play the video game ‘Fortnite’.

Students Volunteer at Cricket GalaA number of CHS students volunteered at the annual Cricket NSW primary school gala day

Caring for CalvesStudents in Mr Adamson’s Agriculture classes are having a great time getting to know the two calves that have taken up temporary residence in the agriculture plot as part of the ‘Cows Create Careers’ program. Students are learning how to care for the calves, including feeding

and tracking weight gains.

Massive Effort From Metal Students

Our Year 10 Massively Metal students have constructed a scooter rack in class in recent weeks and completed its installation on Monday. The scooter rack is located at the side of A Block, near the King Street car park, and is available for all students to use.
