Influenza in the communityWe have been hit with a strain of influenza. A note went home yesterday advising everyone that we have had cases of Influenza A in the community and we do have a number of students with colds, headaches and upset stomachs. If you are noticing an ongoing cough or headache, it may be best to keep your child at home until they recover so we can minimalize the impact at school.

At school, we are doing everything possible in teaching students how to manage by:

• Washing hands

• Coughing into elbows

• Not touching other people

• Blowing noses with tissues

Bus safety in front of the schoolA reminder to all parents about crossing the road near the bus zone. Please do not walk in-between buses to get to your vehicle, as it is very hard for drivers to see you.

I have had a meeting with Federation Council and Cann’s Bus Line to look at the concerns and possible solutions moving into the future. Hopefully we will think of a plan that will support the safety of everyone. In the meantime, please do not walk between buses and always give way to buses as they drive out.

Delightful Discovery Tours with Woolworths! What wonderful adventures our students have had at Woolworths Corowa over the past two weeks! The Discovery Tours were well planned and very informative. Students came back to school full of knowledge, excitement and gratitude for the staff that assisted.

Queen's Birthday Long WeekendHave a fabulous long weekend! Please remember that students are not to attend school on Monday 10 June due to the Queen's Birthday long weekend.

We will see you all again on Tuesday 11 June.

Attendance - Know the facts! The NSW Department of Education requires students to attend school at least 85% of the days that the school is open during the school year. We know that students get sick and they need time off to recover. When they return to school, however, parents need to provide an explanation for the absence within 7 days. This can be a note, via

Skoolbag or a phone call.

All students who arrive late at school must be signed in at the office by a parent or care giver, and a reason given for the late arrival.

Multicultural public speakingWell done to all students who participated in the multicultural public speaking competition!

We wish all the very best of luck to those students continuing on to compete at the next level.

Book Fair bonanza!Students have been in the library this week checking out all the great books for sale as part of the CPS Scholastic

Book Fair. Check the back pages of this newsletter for more information!

Bilbies take aimBilby students used icypole sticks, rubber bands and plastic spoons to make jelly bean catapults in STEM on Thursday!

On 16 May, the Flying Foxes went to the Corowa town library to see Bernard Coleo, a comic book author and comedian. Year 4 attended with Corowa South Public School.

Bernard told us about a box that the people from Tokyo used in the olden days. It was a box with a gap in the front so you could see pictures. He pulled the pictures out of the box and Eli Lavis contributed a story starter

for Bernard to continue about dinosaurs. Eli said that the dinosaur farted and the pressure shot him out of the water. The second story was about a girl who found a cat and showed it to her dad. The dad threw the cat out the window! The third story was called ‘Split Dog’. It was about a dog that split himself in half. Our favourite stories were the cat story and the split dog story.

It was an amazing experience at the library!
