Historical Use of Building and PropertyThe building was utilized by Coronet Foods which processed and distributed value-added fresh cut salads, fruits and vegetables to national retail and foodservice accounts. The Company processed over 1.5-million ofpounds of fresh product a week in a year-round 24/7 operating schedule. The processing of fresh producerequired a fully insulated refrigerated environment which the building provides.

In 1964 Coronet Foods began processing and delivering fresh-cut potatoes and onions in a location neardowntown Wheeling. During the early 1970’s the Company moved to the larger facility located at the currentsite on McColloch Street. The move to the larger facility was necessitated due to the business demands ofproviding fresh cut lettuce, tomatoes and onions for McDonald’s Restaurants.

Coronet Foods serviced McDonald’s Distribution Centers stretching from Chicago to Boston to WashingtonDC/Baltimore areas. The success of providing service to McDonalds was replicated with the same businessmodel which Coronet Foods expanded to the west coast in California, UK, France and China.
