December’s Junior Duck of the Month is Cody Vadeboncoeur! Cody plays defense on both the Squirt Orange and Peewee Jr Ducks teams. He helped his team with gold in the WIHA tournament at West Covina earlier this month and silver at the AAU West Coast Winter-Nationals a couple weeks ago.

His hard work and attitude led to Cody being asked to play up a divsion with the Peewee Jr Ducks team, where he has helped greatly at the back end. Keep up

the great effort and hard work Cody!

Here is a little more informatin on December’s Jr Duck of the Month:

• Position: Defense• Jersey Number: 3, when I was little my favorite

baseball player was #3, and then it just felt com-fortable.

• How long have you been playing? Since I was 5.• Favorite Team / Player: Islanders / John Tavares• Biggest thing I have learned from playing hockey:

Sportsmanship• Favorite hockey memory: Scoring the winning goal

in overtime for the Jr. Ducks championship.• Favorite food: French fries• Favorite school subject: Science• Favorite Tv show: Big Bang Theory• One unique thing about yourself: I broke my front

tooth before a Jr. Duck game, and I stayed to play the game. The dentist then fixed it like new.

Keith HockingEveryone here at Corona Inline would like to wish Keith Hocking a fond farewell as he is retiring from playing here at Corona Inline. He has played at our facility for many years and could always be seen with a smile on his face. Rather than try to write something up about his amazing tenure, we though it fitting to just let him write a few words himself. The following is Keith’s response to a few questions we posed to him:

I am 68 years old, I got a very late start and began playing when I was 48.I had never, in my life, seen a game until then. A girl who worked for me

was married to Charlie Simmer. Charlie played for the Kings and was a radioannouncer for the Ducks when they first became a franchise. Charley got my

interest up and also a team to skate with. That original team is still theone I skate with. Whoever would have guessed that the adventure would last

this long?

My best memory is the first championship my team won. We had played togetherfor several years. Stuart Silver, owner of the Anaheim Bullfrogs, also owned

the rink in Fullerton. Every time we got to a playoffs; there was Stuart’shome rink team with players we never saw before and we’d take second placeeach season. Finally, Fullerton closed down and everybody moved down to a

rink in Fountain Valley. We won our first championship and it was just alittle bit less thrilling than when the Ducks took the Stanley Cup.

Fueling those memories are the guys I have skated with for so long. Thecurrent team, those guys that have filtered in and out, as well as the guys

we played against. Every player, those on my team as well as those I played against, has madean impact. Some I wanted to learn from, some I wanted to destroy with a

clean shot, some have amazed me when they had and others when they lackedlove for this sport. I can’t stand players that don’t honor the game. I have

greatly admired players of virtually no skill equally with those that shouldbe in the “big show”. The admiration grew from the fact that they have

respected the sport and other players on their own team or competitors.

I always thought that advancing age would end my career in some catastropheat center rink. To close out when I am still enchanted with the whole hockey

experience is a bit underwhelming. I thank each and every player, management person, fan, or interested person that I have had the good

fortune to interact with; for their contribution to a wonderful experienceand career.

December’s Drill of the Month is a goaltending drill. This drill is a think-ing and positioning drill. The illustra-tion to the right shows six spots where pucks (or cones) are to be placed around the net.

The drill is simple in that the goal-tender must square-up to whichever puck/cone the coach calls out. For example, if the coach says “five”, the goaltender must push straight out the top of the crease (where puck 5 is lined up). Then if the coach says “six”, the goaltender pushes straight out to square up to puck six.

The drill is designed to not only get goalies thinking about where they need to be in the crease, but the drill also works on skating technique, which is one of the most important aspects of goaltending.
