development Zones / Place to GrowSituated on a massive 348 hectare (861 acre) airport site, adjacent to the operational airport and with access to the runway, several Zones have been identified to support aviation activity.

With three Airport Development Zones and a Business Park, Aerohub provides the ideal location for any aviation company looking to grow.

The Development Zones are already home to a number of aviation businesses, however there is significant space for development.

AirCrAft StorAgEThe airport benefits from large areas of hard standing able to support aircraft of any size. This is ideal for either short or long term aircraft storage.

roAD ACCESSThe Southern Access Road gives vehicle access to the southern side of the airport. The site is just five miles from the main A30, which links to the M5 Motorway and onto other major UK road networks.

PlAnningDevelopment Zones 1, 2 and 3 have full planning permission via a Local Development Order. Permitted uses include all aerospace and aviation activity.

The brainchild of Richard Noble, the car is being designed and engineered to reach speeds of up to 1,000mph, and will attempt to break the record in South Africa.

At the heart of this thrilling project is the desire to create a lasting legacy of excitement towards the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) fields. The BLOODHOUND SSC team are currently engaging with UK schools looking to inspire young people about STEM, and build the next generation of the UK’s engineering talent.

Following a successful rocket test in October 2012 in a Hardened Aircraft Shelter (HAS), BLOODHOUND SSC is back at Aerohub. The BLOODHOUND SSC team are setting up for a series of rocket and car testing programmes, as well as several local school educational days.

The BLOODHOUND SSC Super Sonic Car is the UK’s latest attempt at a land speed record.

Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Culdrose:

Home to a workforce of more than 3,000 people

The largest single site employer in Cornwall

The busiest helicopter base in Europe

Equipped with state-of-the-art simulators and advanced IT packages

Home of the multi-million pound Merlin multi-role helicopter

from AgustaWestland

The engineering and training support structure for Culdrose is extensive. When skilled RNAS Culdrose helicopter maintenance employees reach the end of their Royal Navy service, they often look for work with locally based subcontractors. This has proved a huge benefit for private sector businesses such as Serco, Babcock Defence and Lockheed Martin UK, who have no problem recruiting skilled engineers locally.

RAF St Mawgan

RAF St Mawgan, adjacent to Newquay Cornwall Airport, is a fully operational base (although it has no direct access to the Airport). It is the home for the Defence Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Extraction School. The primary role is to provide administrative support to the school and ensure the delivery of up to 5,000 trained personnel per annum in support of current operations. A number of other units are located on the Station including Defence Training Estates and Air Training Corps.

Military Might Cornwall’s strong military presence provides a model for skills development.

long-term investment in Cornwall

lockheed Martin UKIn 1991 Lockheed Martin UK was awarded Prime Contract for the Royal Navy’s Merlin Mk1 multi-mission helicopter, the UK’s largest and most sophisticated systems integration project to date. In 2006, the company secured the Merlin Capability Sustainment Programme to upgrade the Merlin Mk1 to a new Mk2 standard. Thirty existing Mk1 aircraft will receive upgrades to significantly increase the multi-role capability potential in the maritime battlespace of the future. The Merlin Mk2 entered service with the Royal Navy in 2013.

SolutionBased at RNAS Culdrose, Lockheed Martin UK provides comprehensive support to the Royal Navy’s fleet of Merlin helicopters through AgustaWestland’s Integrated Merlin Operation Support (IMOS) contract. In addition, Lockheed Martin UK runs the Merlin Training System (MTS) or ‘Merlin University’ - a state-of-the-art training facility designed to train air and maintenance crews in the operation and support of the Merlin Weapons System.
