LANscape® Pretium® Zero-U System with CPI Fiber Management System

19

The heart of every business runs through the data center. Its survival is based on the operability of all of its components. As designing data centers becomes more complicated, it isimportant to know that the components installed in your datacenter will work together.

One of the fundamental challenges for high-density networksis the large volume of optical fiber cable and patch cords thatmust be managed in cabinets which house large, modular (core)switches. When individual jumper cables are used to make eachport connection, densities of several hundred cables concen-trate along the sides of the cabinets, blocking airflow andmaking it difficult to administer moves, adds and changes. To address these challenges, CPI and Corning Cable Systemshave worked together to develop a solution that provides:

• Customized solutions for integration with SAN directorsand Ethernet switches from Brocade and Cisco

• Superior cable management of Plug & Play™ System trunks

• Reduced time for infrastructure design and installation

• Simplified administration of moves, adds and changes

• Reduced bulk cable congestion

The Zero-U System includes pre-engineered harnessesmapped directly to the line card ports of the Brocade DCX,Brocade 48000 Director and the Cisco MDS 9513 SANdirectors, as well as the Cisco Nexus 7010/7018 Ethernetswitches for a streamlined approach to data center design, installation and administration.

Corning Cable Systems and Chatsworth Products, Inc. have formed a strategic alliance that simplifiesthe data center design and installation process, while also providing the flexibility to meet the needs ofchanging customer requirements.

Through our collaboration, we have developed an innovative solutionthat ensures seamless integration of Corning Cable Systems Plug &Play™ Universal Systems, CPI TeraFrame™ Cabinets and data centerelectronics for a truly “tip-to-tip” data center infrastructure solution.

Our shared passion for innovation, technical expertiseand commitment to customer service makes ourcollaboration a natural fit.

Our innovative solution

takes advantage of zero-U

connectivity, moving the

space required for passive

optical patching out of

the rack space into the

cabinet’s vertical manager.

The Zero-U System

eliminates up to 77 percent

of the cabling bulk in the

cabinet’s vertical manager

and modular switch.

LANscape Pretium Integrated Solutions ensure seam-less integration of the data center cabling infrastructure, passive optical hardware, cabinets and electronic components. Whether you have an electronics vendor or arequirement for the amount of rack space your optical infrastructure may consume,LANscape U-Space and Zero-U Pretium Integrated Solutions include a product set tomeet your needs. Corning Cable Systems innovative U-Space and Zero-U Systemsallow customers to deploy new applications and technologies to meet their changingrequirements. This includes custom harnesses mapped directly to line card ports toensure seamless integration of components and is ideal for high-port-count coreswitch connectivity to a main distribution area.

Zero-U System

For applications where maximized rack space and innovative trunk cable management is needed ordesired, LANscape Pretium Integrated Solutions include the Zero-U System. Developed with ChatsworthProducts, Inc. (CPI), the system is installed in CPI’s TeraFrame™ Cabinets, moving the space required forpassive optical patching out of the rack space. The Zero-U System includes components providing zero-Uconnectivity in both low-port-count and high-port-count applications in the data center. In high-densityapplications, instead of utilizing traditional rack-mountable hardware, the Zero-U System includes MTP®

bracket(s) mounted into the cabinet’s vertical manager to facilitate patching and to provide more room inthe cabinet for data center electronics. Customized optical harnesses are designed for easy compatibilityand integration with Brocade and Cisco switches. Pre-engineered and optimized routing and managementof these harnesses simplifies and improves the initial speed of deployment as well as future moves, addsand changes. As with the U-Space System, the elimination of the bulk cabling in the cabinet vertical man-ager and modular switch reduces congestion to improve airflow efficiency and a patented port mappingscheme simplifies network installation and administration.

U-Space System

The U-Space System, a complement to Corning Cable Systems Plug & Play™ Universal Systems productfamily, is a pre-engineered system that maps directly to the line card ports of Brocade and Cisco switches.Designed to facilitate component integration, the U-Space System features customized harnesses thatmap directly to the line cards. The harnesses are mated to trunk cables via MTP adapter panels ormodules, which are installed in a 4U Pretium Connector Housing mounted above or below the switch. The U-Space System supports Brocade line cards with port counts ranging from 16 to 48, and 32- to48-port Cisco line cards. For a Brocade chassis with 16- or 32-port line cards, the product set includescustomized 8-fiber harnesses and Corning Cable Systems’ Base-8 Module, which transitions 12-fiberMTP connectivity to 8-fiber MTP connectivity. This module eliminates unused or dangling fibers that typi-cally occur when utilizing 12-fiber connectivity for line cards with 8-fiber increments. The 48-port chassisfor both Cisco and Brocade utilizes customized 12-fiber harnesses with MTP adapter panels, while Cisco’s32-port chassis utilizes a combination of 4-fiber and 12-fiber harnesses. With port mapping from the MDApatch panel to the SAN director or Ethernet switch, the U-Space System simplifies the customer’s designprocess and reduces infrastructure installation time. The high-density trunk cabling and customizedharness system reduces cable congestion, promoting air circulation, increasing deployment velocityand improving the manageability of future moves, adds and changes.

Features• Improved airflow for switch cooling• Easier access to switch ports• Modular solution growth as I/O modules

are added• 75% reduction in installation time

Benefits• 75% reduction in cabling bulk in the cabinet• 40% fewer connectors required• 60% less rack space needed in the switch

cabinet (none needed with zero-u solution)• Easier and quicker change-outs of I/O modules

Corning Cable Systems LANscape® Pretium® Evolved-Density,Growth-Enabled (EDGE) Solutions are preterminated optical cabling

systems that take your data center to the next level. Consisting ofoptical trunks, harnesses, modules, housings and jumpers, Pretium EDGESolutions address the concerns of data center owners and operators, helpingthem increase revenue, reduce expenses andminimize risk.

35% FASTER TO INSTALL

Each sliding shelf (every one-third rack unit) contains separate jumperrouting guides so individual jumpers can easily be accessed, added or

removed as needed

Modular housings mean modules can be added one at a time whenneeded without disrupting existing equipment

Universal wiring scheme enables MACs without polarity concerns

Trunks are an average of 30 percent smaller, with a minimum bendradius of five times the outer diameter of the cable, compared toten times in traditional trunks

Smaller trunks allow for more than 50 percent more cables to bestored in cable trays

4U housing has industry-leading density with room for 576 fibers;1U housing holds 96 fibers

4U housing contains 24 cable integration positions, which can be double-stacked for 48 12-fiber cables or

16 larger-fiber-count trunks

Bend performance of Corning® ClearCurve® optical fiber and reduced cable diameter allowtrunk cables and jumpers to be quickly routed through tight spaces with no impact on

system performance

Increased finger room provides easy and quick access to jumpers within the housing

Modules can be installed from either the front or the rear of the housings and feature asingle-door shutter for both LC connectors, allowing one-hand installation and eliminating

the need to install dust caps

25% FASTER MOVES, ADDSAND CHANGES (MACs)

100% MORE DENSITY

Universally wired components provide a simplemigration path between 2-fiber and parallel

optic applications

Solution is ensured to meet theperformance requirements of 100G

Ethernet when future requirementsdemand it
