You know I love to read Bonhoeffer! I have his book “Meditating On The Word” in my library, and pulled it out recently to rediscover the truths I remember from the book. Bonhoeffer once wrote to a friend, “The heart of God opens itself to us in God’s

Word.” Bonhoeffer engaged in regular, thorough reading and meditating on the Word of God from the time he became a believer. As you read his writings, it becomes readily evident that he “received with meekness the implanted Word, which was able to save his soul” (James 1:21 paraphrase) He made it his practice to daily - almost constantly - keep and ponder texts and even single words from the text. Such reading and meditating on the Word became for him a means of grace very closely akin to hearing the Word preached in the congregation. He used the Word of God as a means of determining God’s will, guidance, and direction. Again, in the language of James (1:22), the Word is to be done, not simply heard.

Ultimately, his constant reading of the Word of God led him directly to prayer. From Psalms: The Prayer Book of the Bible by Bonhoeffer, he wrote, “The words which come from God will be the steps upon which we find our way to God.” In his “Meditation on Psalm 119: from the same volume: “I do not treasure God’s promise in my understanding but in my heart. It is not to be analyzed by my intellect, but to be pondered in my heart …. Therefore, it is never sufficient simply to have read God’s Word. It must penetrate deep within us, dwell in us, like the Holy of Holies in the Sanctuary, so that we do not sin in thought, word, or deed.” “I love the Word of God; I love the God of the Word. It’s my desire to know His voice .. He is my Father!” - Al Holley

Praise the Lord!

CEEC students have been busy learning, playing, and growing. The students are making great strides educationally with the new curriculum. It is great to see them tackling the topics, skills, and activities they are learning. They are growing academically and we are now placing additional focus on their physical health as well. This month we will be starting a P.E. program with them. During the afternoons we will begin track and field practices with the students. After the holidays we will have clinics in basketball, and then baseball. It is wonderful to watch as they master classroom skills and physical skills; growing in confidence as they do so. CEEC is also busy with fall preparations as October

begins. This month the students will be visiting the pumpkin farm to pick their own pumpkins, and are busy planning their costumes for Trunk or Treat celebration here at the school. They will also be visiting The Plaza to show the seniors their costumes in a parade. As the fall and winter holiday seasons start we are looking forward to having fun together, learning together, and sharing the meaning of the holidays and our traditions together.
