Potentate’s MessageWe have made it to March! Our
91st Tangier Shrine Circus has come and gone. I want to thank all the Nobles, ladies, and their families for all their hard work. We had a great circus with good shows that were hopefully fun for everybody.
Hopefully our visit from Imperial Sir Brad Koehn (Imperial Treasurer) and his presentation about the direction that Shriners Hospitals for Children is taking, was informative and helped answer some of the questions that we all have.
March is another busy month at Tangier with the first Friendship Dinner at Tangier on March 6th. Do you know someone that would make a good Mason/Shriner? This is such a special way to show the Freemason side of our brotherhood and the great philanthropy it brings as well. Let’s show the possible future brothers and their ladies the amazing work we do for our Hospitals. Please contact the office and RSVP. As our Imperial Potentate says, “Just One”. If all of us can bring in just one individual, just think where Tangier’s membership numbers would be.
Another of Tangier’s major fundraisers is just around the corner. Our annual Corned Beef and Cabbage will be on Tuesday, March 17th. St Paddy’s Day. As a bonus we will have karaoke in the green room that evening. So, bring your friends and come sing with the gang at Tangier. It will be a great time.
Don’t forget about the Mobile Nobles 357 Dinner at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center on Saturday, March 14th.
The Tangier Potentate’s Ball will be held on Saturday, March 21st and breakfast on Sunday, March 22nd. The Ball Committee is working hard to make it a fun weekend. You can get a reservation form in the Hot Sands or at the Tangier office. Please plan to join the fun.
Remember to support all the clubs and units when they have a function. They are always a good time.

TANGIER “HOT SANDS”MARCH 2020
By: Queen Karen Clopton
Greetings from Sat-ra Temple number 59! I can’t believe this year has gone so fast. It has been an honor to represent Sat-ra temple as Queen. We accomplished many things this year including sending gift cards to the Mexico City Hospital and initiating 13 new princesses.
Elections will be held March 5th at 1:00 pm with lunch at noon. Election night dinner is at 5:30 that evening at the Pizza Ranch. Come congratulate our new officers and honor our outgoing ones. Please make reservations with Pr. Roxanne Mrasek. Guests are welcome to attend. Installation of Officers will be March 14th, 2:00 pm at Tangier. This installation is open to the public.
Many great events are planned for this year beginning with our third annual Diva Day on April 19th at noon. We will offer many free pampering services and vendors will be selling some great items!
Again, it has been an honor to serve as Queen and to help support our philanthropy. We hope to see you at session and fundraisers… and remember to leave a little sparkle wherever you go!
Daughters of the Nile
ChantersBy: Bernie Hauber
It is with a heavy heart that I must report the passing of one of our Chanters. On January 16, 2020, Robert “Bob” Mitchell, Jr. (92 years) was called to his reward. Bob served in the United States Army during World War II. Following his discharge and college graduation, Bob joined his father in a real estate firm which was a very successful company. According to Bob’s father, the firm employed the first female real estate salesperson in Omaha. He was active in a number of professional organizations, serving in leadership roles in most of them. Bob was raised as a Master Mason and had been active in Scottish Rite and Tangier Shrine. He joined the Chanters as a baritone and also served as Captain for a term. This writer will remember his organizing bus trips for the group, including for our Christmas Tour (until he turned the job over to me a couple years ago), and his friendly greeting of “Good Morning” that we received any hour of the day. His services were January 23, 2020.
On a much more positive note, the Chanters, want to congratulate Jim Carlton for being elected and installed as Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Nebraska A.F. & A.M. Noble Jim has been our treasurer since 2011. Jim was raised in Bellevue Lodge in 1990, and served as Worshipful Master in 1995 and again in 2012. He joined Scottish Rite in 1996 and has been awarded the 32nd degree KCCH. Jim joined Tangier Shrine and the Chanters in 1996 and has served as our captain. He is a member of the York Rite bodies, the National Sojourners, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Jim was named DeMolay Nebraska Mason of the Year for 2011.
The Chanters are Shrine Masons from a variety of backgrounds, with a variety of talents and interests, and, like Jim, with a variety of accomplishments. Most of us are not professional singers and most of us do not have “perfect pitch.” We just enjoy singing, having fun and helping others as we go. Please consider joining us. The larger the group the better the sound produced. Just contact any Chanter or just stop by on Mondays around 7:00 pm at the Shrine Center. That’s my update for March.
“It is the best of all trades, to make songs, and the second best to sing them.” Hilaire Belloc (British Author)
Boone & CrockettBy: Charlie Binge
Welcome to our newest member- Bill Childers
The Shrine Circus was held on February 21st -23rd, and with a strong turnout of members, we were again one of the top novelty sellers. Good times were had by all.
The B&C Club is again selling Gun raffle tickets. Only 200 tickets will be sold at $100 each for a chance at 12 guns to be given away this year. Tickets are available from B&C members or at the Tangier Shrine Office. Thank you to Mick Dudzinski, for again heading up the B&C Gun Raffle. Mick has asked that all ticket stubs and money be turned in to Sandy Parks in the Office.
The B&C Club officers are now making plans for our Fish Fry on July 25. Keep this date open for excellent eating and a chance to win some great raffle prizes.
We also have fun. Jim Jacobson reported on the ice fishing trip to Bitter Lake in early February. Jim stated the fishing was good, but the snow was deep and it was hard to get on the lake. Libations flowed and fun was had by all who attended.
We have two more fishing trips scheduled this year: Walleye fishing in late April or early May (contact Jim Jacobson) and a salmon fishing trip to Sheboygan, Wisconsin, fishing August 31st and the 1st and 2nd of September (contact Charlie Binge). We also have various hunting trips in the fall for small and big game.
The B&C Club meets on the first Thursday of the month in the Shrine Center basement, for a short meeting and dinner. Our dues are $20 a year. Our next meeting is March 5. Won’t you join us?
Membership is very important to Tangier Shrine. Visit your Blue Lodge and bring a brother into the Shrine and the B&C Club.
Arab PatrolBy: S. Bugajny
A warm hello and greetings from Arab Patrol. Here we are again, a new spring and a new slate of Divan, along with another parade season soon upon us.
We are blessed and grateful for our fine Tangier Shrine Center. It’s truly a wonderful building with fine people working hard to keep it that way. Thank you all for participating in one form or another.
Arab Patrol is busy planning our upcoming events and really look forward to expanding our successful Taste of Wine at the Tangier Shrine event. More news and details as we get them. Last year we were super pleased at our turnout and expect this year to be bigger and yes better than the 2019 event. There will be more wine selections, great food, and super interaction.
Please avail yourself of the attached schedule in this Hot Sands edition, as to the St Paddy’s day celebration and opportunity to serve thousands. Please come and join us to help make it another fantastic event.
Peace and good thoughts.
Feztival
It is already that time to begin planning for the 2020 Feztival of Trees.
First, I would like to thank everyone who made the 2019 Feztival of Trees a huge success, it wouldn’t have been a success without all of you.
We hope that we continue to grow every year, and to do that, we need the help of all Tangier Shrine Nobles and ladies. If you would like to be a part of the largest fundraising event for the Tangier Shrine, please let us know.
We need workers for: pre-planning, greeters, entrance fees, cookie sales, snowflake cafe sales, raffle ticket sales, provost, etc. If you would like to help or have any ideas (entertainment, events to hand out flyers, etc.), please contact Past Potentate Jim Hirl or John Golden. The first pre-planning meeting will be March 23rd, so it isn’t too early to begin thinking Christmas Trees! - Your Feztival Team

MARCH 2020TANGIER “HOT SANDS”
Corvette ClubBy: Terry Ullsperger
Well at the time I am writing this it’s still darn cold and the Corvette is still in hibernation as I am sure they all are. It is our slow season but there are still some things for us to participate in such as the St. Patricks day corned beef and cabbage feed, the Potentate’s Ball honoring Our Illustrious Sir Alan Smith and Lady Vicki and events by our fellow Tangier clubs and units. There are also events sponsored by the many Masonic Lodges in the greater Omaha area whose members would love our support and participation. It is important for all of us to do all we can for our great Lodges as that is where all great Shriners come from.
Speaking of great Masons, our very own TSCC past president, Nobel Mark Huss was installed Master of Miloma Lodge 328 in February. Congratulations Mark.
Members of our club that have not yet fulfilled the dream of owning America’s greatest sports car are titled Associate Members. If we each invited a brother Mason to ride along with us in one of the parades and they see the fun we have after, maybe we could gain some new associate members that will become full members in time. Also, if you members of other clubs would be interested in riding in a parade in a Corvette with one of us, just ask. We would be honored to have you.
For this month’s edition of “Corvette College” lets have a history class. There have been eight generations of the Corvette since the first 1954 model. Each generation is labeled C1 through the brand new C8. Just 300 of the C1 Corvettes were built from 1953 to 1962. The C2 era ran from 1968 to 1982 and these were the first to be called Stingrays. There was no production Corvette for model year 1983. The first technology advanced Corvette was the C4 built from 1984 to 1996. 1997 to 2004 was the all new truly modern C5 design era. The C6 years of 2005 through 2013 brought a major refining of the previous design. The C7 became a real world class super car from 2014 until 2019. With the 2020 C8 model, the Corvette world has been reinvented with the first mid-engine model. Hopefully we will be seeing one of the new ones on the streets of Omaha soon.
Director’s StaffBy: Mel Morton
Here we are in March looking for that good spring weather. All the clubs and units will be thinking about getting their floats ready for parade season which will be here before you know it.
I would like to thank everyone that helped with our Mardi Gras party. Everyone had a great time and what a crowd. Also, a big thank you to everyone that made our Circus a big success. Setup went well because of the big crowd and everyone’s help.
There are a few events coming up this month that we all should attend and help where we can. On March 6th there is a Friendship Dinner at Tangier. This is a great chance to bring your Just One to increase our membership. If everyone brought a potential candidate and signed him up, just think of how our membership would grow. On the 17th is our Corned Beef and Cabbage feed. Things start well ahead of the 17th, so try to help where you can. It takes a lot of people to put this on, so please help every day you can. Then the fun event on the 21st and 22nd to honor our Illustrious Sir Alan and his lady Vickie at the Potentate’s Ball. If you haven’t ever been to a ball, you are missing a great night with good food and dancing. You can also meet some of our Brothers from other Shrine Centers. Then don’t forget about the breakfast the next morning. Fun times always at these events.
Hamburger nights are on again except for the 18th. This is a good time to come out, enjoy some good food and talk with your fellow nobles. Bring some friends or family with you as this is open to the public. You can eat for a very reasonable price and the specials are very good.
If you are interested in seeing what the Directors Staff is about, contact any of our members or come to one of our meetings. We meet on the fourth Monday of every month in the lower level of the shrine at 7:00 pm. Our ladies meet at the same time. Support the other clubs and units, your blue lodge, and other Masonic organizations. As always remember it’s a great day to be a Shriner.
Golf LeagueBy: Bill ‘Sully’ Sullivan
I hope everyone has enjoyed the off season and are ready for some enjoyable time on the golf course. League play for 2020 will begin on Thursday April 30 at Elmwood Golf Course, and will continue for 20 weeks with two weeks off for the Moila Tournament (July 9-12) and CSSA (September 3-5).
The league is desperate for new players. Please consider joining or continuing to be a member of the League. Due to age and recent expirations, we are in need of additional players. Any Mason or Shriner, in good standing, interested in joining the league who is available to play Thursdays at 3:30pm sharp is welcome. Help your Shrine club, unit, or Lodge organize a team. Teams of 4 players play 9 holes at Elmwood golf course on Thursdays at 3:30pm beginning April 30, but a full team of 6 members allows scheduling around necessary absences. Contact me or Pete Larson if you have interest in playing.
An attempt will be made to contact each league player from last year to verify their plans to continue playing in the league this year. If you have not been contacted, please contact Sully regarding your decision so we can determine the number of new players needed to fill each team. Also, please contact Sully if team rosters or captains are expected to change.
Players joining the league must be dedicated and committed to arriving on time and playing each week they are scheduled to play. All players must be in good standing with their Blue Lodge (and the Shrine if a Shriner), and pay for the full season up-front so they have a vested interest in participating when scheduled.
Contact information: Bill Sullivan (cell) 402-290-9401; (email) [email protected] or Pete Larson 402-498-8392; (cell) 402-659-5960; (email) [email protected].
Golf is harder than baseball. In golf, you have to play your foul balls.
Pick Up Truck ClubBy: Charlie Beasor
We are still looking for people to join the Pickup Truck Club. This year we are looking forward to participate in the parades. Show the Shrine spirit to the spectators of the parade. It is actually a fun time greeting the folks. Contact Charlie Beasor for information at 402-290-7701. We meet at the Shrine Center the second Tuesday of the month in the bar area at 7:00.

TANGIER “HOT SANDS”MARCH 2020
By: Tony Johnson
What a month February was, with the Circus and all the promotions at the Hy-Vee stores. Fun was had by all. Thank you to all the Kops and Kuties that helped out at the Circus with the food, skits, and Circus product selling booths. It was fun seeing one of the guys dressed in a dress…thanks guys for your time and sense of humor. There were a lot of shenanigans happening at the Circus and a few pies that were unexpected flew.
Thanks to Past Chief Tyler Goodman and Past Chief Dean Stockman for putting on the Kop School in February, it was a great reminder of what we can and cannot do during the events we have fun with.
March is a full month, with the Potentate’s Ball on Saturday, March 21st, and the St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef & Cabbage fundraiser on Tuesday, March 17th. We will need lots of Kops and Kuties to help with our annual clean up at the end of the night. Hope to see you all there. If you can be there, please let the office or one of your officer’s know. Thank you in advance.
Remember if you want to give the cook a night off, Hamburger night on Wednesday evenings.
We are always looking for new Kops and Kuties, so watch your Blue Lodges for guys you would like to Kop around with and invite them to our meeting the second Friday of the month at 7:30 pm.
Mobile NoblesBy: Jeff Blocklinger
With another Circus in the books, the Mobile Nobles would like to thank everyone that helped out. A special thanks to Jim Turpin and his crew for everything they do to make sure that the Circus continues to come back year after year. Even with the Circus being done, the Mobile Nobles are still very busy.
March is a very big month for the Mobile Nobles as it time for our annual fundraiser. We are busy getting everything in order for the 357 Dinner on March 14th. Illustrious Sir Frank Krupa will be hosting, and we want to thank him for the years he’s hosted for us. Rainbow Girls will be serving at the dessert table.
Some other things happening around Tangier this Month: Hamburger nights are still going on Wednesday nights. The Corned Beef and Cabbage fundraiser is coming up on March 17th. We also have the Potentate’s Ball on March 21st starting at 5:00 pm at the Scottish Rite Center.
“When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer.” Corrie ten Boom
Tangier BandBy: Jim Radosevich
Greetings to those that survived the Valentine’s Day, Karaoke Night, Mardi Gras, and Circus activities last month!
Depending on the weather during the next two weeks, the Band may donate Punxsutawney Phil to the next B&C Club Wild Game Feed in January 2021. (FYI: The proposal to send local weather prognosticators along with the infamous groundhog Phil was not approved.)
Please participate in the “Just One” Membership Drive. Bring your good buddy, and a Blue Lodge member to the Friends Membership Information Dinner on Friday, March 6. If the potential member, or current Shriner is a golfer/musician and wants to wear a green jacket like those awarded to the Masters winners, have him call Jim at 402-496-2691, as the Most Famous Seated Tangier Band is looking for a few MORE good men!
Hospital FloatBy: Mike Donham
March is here and the Circus is history. Hopefully the weather cooperated this year. One more month closer to spring and parade season in May.
The Potentate’s Ball is March 21st at the Scottish Rite with breakfast on the 22nd at Tangier. Reservations are due by March 6th, hope you plan to attend.
On a note of sadness, the Hospital Float Unit mourns the loss of Noble Don Ellis on January 30, 2020. He was a 60 year member in the Masonic Fraternity. He was a dual member of Brookings Lodge in Brookings, South Dakota and Covert Lodge # 11 in Omaha.
Don served as Worthy Patron of Trinity Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in 1991 and 1993. He was a member of the Tangier Hospital Float Unit serving as Secretary-Treasurer for over 25 years. Those who knew Don will surely miss him. “God speed Noble Don Ellis.”
Happy Birthday wishes are sent to the following members and ladies: Nobles Don Harrington and Todd Davison, and Lady Carol Hale.
The Hospital Float will have a new look this year. Boy Scout Ethan Gibbs redesigned the hospital on the Float to earn his Eagle Scout Badge.

Mo-RiBy: S. Bugajny
Greetings and salutations from MoRi, the club that loves to eat dinners and share great times with you and your significant other, and friends.
Boy, its hard to believe we are approaching the spring season already. Seed catalogues in the mail, flyers from the yard companies offering lawn and yard work services. Your box stores have cleared out all the Christmas stuff and Valentines day has come and gone again. Adios Chocolate hearts.
We will be preparing for the big St Paddy’s day events at the Shrine Center and low and behold parades are being planned.
We at MoRi continue to have knock out participation at our dinners. Quite popular with the couples of our group. Everyone in the pool, all welcome, not just the men folk.
March is a good month for fresh things from greenery to our great organization.
Check out the Hot Sands for a list of times and things to do, and to help. This Corned Beef and Cabbage event is huge, come on down and lend a hand.
Peace and good vibes.

We are still in limbo as to what is going to occur at the General Meeting in April. Until that time, we are printing the letter we received from the General Auxiliary Chairman, so that you can read exactly what they are doing or rather not doing at this time. Continue to save and take aluminum tabs to the Shrine Center. We appreciate all that you do for the Auxiliary.
Until next time, be kind to one another. I will talk with you again next month.___________________________________
To: Auxiliary MembersFrom: WGA 4 Kids Board Shriners Healthcare for Children – Twin CitiesGreetings to all of you wonderful auxiliary
people. We have now entered a new and challenging year.
2020 will be a year of change for us as we move from a hospital setting to a healthcare clinic. Your WGA 4 Kids Board is continuing our work seeing that the children are receiving toys, blankets, clothing, games, and books. At the same time, we are working on what and how much we can take to our new setting, a 12’ x 15’ room! With that in mind, we have some requests for you. 1. We would like you to hold off on sending us any toys, stuffed animals, games or books. 2. We do not need any clothing articles, blankets, quilts, knitted hats, scarves, or mittens.
You have been so generous this past year that we have enough of everything! As we continue to distribute items during January – April, we also need to pack up what we can take to the new Shriners Healthcare Clinic in Woodbury. If you have ever moved, you know what a huge job it is, especially when you downsize as we are. We still need money for our wheelchair fund as that need continues all of the time. Once we get moved (mid-June), we will then have a much better idea of what we can actually use. I thank you for all of your support as we go through this transition.
Our big Annual Meeting will be here before we know it. Please mark your calendars for April 26 – 27 at the Double Tree (formerly the Radisson). This will be a very important meeting for you to attend, as we will have updated information for you as to how we will be working together. The theme for our 2020 meeting will be TRANSITION TIME TOGETHER – A NEW HORIZON.
Information will be sent to you in plenty of time to register all of you who will be attending.
As we turn over a new leaf in 2020 and look to a New Horizon, we are indebted to all of you for your patience and support. We could not do all of this without you.
See you in AprilElizabeth EkholmGeneral Chairman - WGA 4 KidsShriners Healthcare for Children – Twin Cities.

Greetings and salutations from the Shrine Bowl unit. We had the fifth and last Big Red Prime Rib dinner of the season on the 20th of February and it was another successful campaign. NFL referee and former Nebraska quarterback Clete Blakeman was our keynote speaker. I’d like to take a moment and thank Dean Abel for stepping up this year and leading our biggest and most important fundraiser of our unit. Your charismatic leadership and dedication to the unit’s success is much appreciated.
The unit will also be serving at Tangier’s St Paddy’s day Corned Beef and Cabbage feed from 3:00 to 7:00. It’s always a good time serving so come out even if you only have a couple of hours as I’m sure we could use the help.
Plans are coming along nicely for our third Annual SBU Fish Fry on Good Friday April 10th. We hope this year is the best one yet and with all of your help in spreading the word and helping put it together I’m really confident it will be. A few important committee members will be at the Potentate’s cruise and will miss the FF so additional help will be needed and appreciated. Pre-sale tickets will be available soon.
I’d like to wish Rob Mead and Arnie Nelson quick recoveries and successful rehabs from their recent surgeries. That’s all for now and I hope to see you on St Paddy’s Day.

By the time you read this, we have two major events behind us: the Change of Command Dinner and the Shrine Circus. The Change of Command dinner was a great time as John Schnepel turned the chief’s badge over to Wade Rideout for 2020. The new officers for 2020 are Wade Ridout, Chief; Bill Simmons, Deputy Chief; Carl Simmons, Secretary; and Ed Thompson, Treasurer.
Matt Beahm has done an inventory of uniforms and will be the contact for new orders. Thanks to Kevin Potter and Frank Vondra for spearheading the purchase of new radios. They will have been used for the first time at the Circus. The next big event will be the Corned Beef and Cabbage Feed that will have the Provost busy directing traffic.
As always, if you haven’t been to a meeting for a while, come and join us. We always have a lot going on but meetings only last about an hour, and there’s always a lot of good fellowship following the meeting. We meet on the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm in the lower level of the Shrine Center. And if you’re not a member of Provost and would like to be, or just want to see what our unit is all about feel free to attend one of our meetings.

Greeting to all Brothers and of course all Ladies of Tangier. Without your support we could not do all the good things that we are all about.
By now the Circus has come and gone and hopefully it was a great success. To all those that helped in any way Thank You for your help.
Finally, March is here and we can now realize Spring and Summer are approaching! That means gearing up for the many parades, car shows, and just getting outside.
Vintage Iron Club consists of 85 plus members and you don’t need to own a 1987 or older American vehicle to become a member. Dues are only $20 a year and we meet the fourth Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm.
Many good activities happen at the Tangier Shrine every month, so review the Hot Sands and make your plans to support the Clubs and Units. Thank you for all you do.

Greetings from Motor “A”. We skipped our monthly meeting for January and had our meeting in February at the Red Eye with a good attendance. We have our Divan Representative, Past Potentate Ralph Joos back with us for another year and are looking forward to a good 2020! We are going to have our March 2nd monthly meeting at Catfish Charlies or the Lodge in La Platte and invite anyone wanting to join our group to come and have dinner with us. We are a small group, but always looking for new members. This year we decided that we would try different places for our monthly meetings, so please check with us as we will try and post it each month as to our location.
We wish a Happy Birthday to Karen (2-4), Sandy (2-6), Carole (2-17), Peg (2-18), and Al (2-23). We have no anniversaries in February so until next time, “keep your gas tanks full and remember to turn the key.”

“Let Us Show You How Home Remodeling is Supposed To Be”
Chad and Kory grew up Elkhorn in the 80’s riding big wheels together. Now they have traded in their big wheels for Black Carp’s Trucks and remodeling homes in the Omaha Metro Area.
Keeping homeowners happy, comfortable, and informed is an integral part of our business practices. We are a locally homegrown business that will be here for you when you need us and make your remodeling experience an enjoyable and affordable one that you will be able to enjoy for years to come. With Carp’s you get the advantages of a large one-stop shop with the customer service you might find at a smaller company. We started with one man and an idea of how, to do things the right way the first time around.
Our customers contact us when they want to deal with one company that can take care of all of their service and project needs.
We don’t profit by overcharging and getting cheap labor and moving on to the next project. We believe that it is vital to have homeowners involved in every step of the process.
