Sincerestwishes for a happyholiday season!

Corinth Fire Dept.Ladies Auxiliary

“The greatest gift a man cangive his children is to love theirmother.”

Ring Out the old, ring in thenew. Ring happy bells, acrossthe snow. The year is going, let him go.

Alfred Lord Tennyson

TWINKLE, TWINKLE!The holiday season has

begun and many people willsoon be putting up Christmastrees. Some will use artificialtrees, others, real trees. What-ever type of tree peoplechoose to put up, theyʼre sureto add a string or two of lights.Of course,it wasnʼt always thatway.

Back in the 17th centurywhen there was no electricity, people decorated their Christ-mas tree with candles. Thetrees were real and the slight-est breeze could make theflames flicker and catch abranch on fire. People had towatch their Christmas treescarefully when the candleswere lit.

That all changed in 1882,however, when Edward John-son, an associate of ThomasEdison, made the first string ofelectric Christmas tree lights. He hand-wired 80 red, whiteand blue bulbs and woundthem around a Christmas tree.Few people noticed, though, until 13 years later when Pres-ident Grover Cleveland hadthe White House tree deco-rated with electric lights.

Christmas tree lights havecome a long way since the17th century. Today we havelights in almost every color, size and shape imaginable. Some stay on all the time, while others flicker or chaseeach other at the click of a but-ton.

CHRISTMAS CANAPES can be as simple as a big platter ofcheeses plus fruits and crudities. For instance: small square ofcheddar with a chunk of pineapple or apple speared on top witha toothpick; Swiss cheese and ham squares on top of Saltinesor Triscuits; mild Muenster with sweet pickle team-ups. And inbetween cruditie strips or crisp celery, carrot, green peppers, radishes, plus cocktail tomatoes, watercress---anything goes(fast!).

Pennysaver Passalong

CHRISTMAS KISSES: Preheat oven to 275 degrees. Beat 3 eggwhites, 1 teasp. vanilla, 1/4 teasp. cream of tartar and 1/8 teasp.salt until soft peaks form. Slowly beat in 1 cup sugar until a stiff, glossy meringue forms. Drop from teaspoon onto ungreased bak-ing sheets and bake 45 minutes or until kisses are fairly dry. Shutoff oven, open door, and leave kisses in until they are dry andcrisp. You should have 3 to 4 dozen kisses.

Bring them with you onthe road. Whether heʼs peeking out ofthe drapes or hanging from thefan, a hotel room offers somecreative hiding spots.• Try asking the front desk tohave milk and cookies delivered(quietly) late at night.• If possible, book a suite with afireplace and bring along thestockings to hang.• You may not be able to pack upyour kitchen and bring it withyou, but you can still have a de-licious holiday meal. Many hotelsand lodges serve up all the seasonal favorites, like turkey, mashed potatoes, roasted pork and holiday desserts. IN MEMORY Of my Mom Gail RobbinsItʼs that time of year again and I know how much

you loved Christmas.I miss you very much and life is not the same without you.I know you are looking over us, but I wish you were here.Merry Christmas in Heaven, Mom and a Happy New Year.

Love and miss you, Aurie

MERRY CHRISTMAS to allour family and friends!

Ron and Barb Allen

LONG MAY CHRISTMAS LIVE! Christmas is a medicine...itheals broken relations with its oil of love smoothing the roughplaces. Christmas is a tonic...it often turns the selfish into truegivers of oneʼs self. The sweet spirit of Christmas helps to coverthe repulsive things that have happened through the year as welook away from earth and the predicaments it has gotten into, tothe peace that Christ can give to our hearts. Hope, joy, love, courage, generosity find their places at Christmas time. Savorthis Christmas feeling - long may it live throughout a New Year!

A WORD TO THE WISE: WINTERIZE

(NAPSI)—Savvy drivers know itʼs wise to winterize their car be-fore the cold weather hits. Thatʼs the word from experts who sayinvesting an hour or two of your time to have your vehiclechecked is all it takes to have peace of mind.

Plus, itʼs an investment that pays dividends when it comes toavoiding the cost and hassle of a breakdown during severeweather.

Says Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council, “A vehiclecheck before the temperatures drop is a sensible way to avoidbeing stranded out in the cold and the unexpected expense ofemergency repairs.”

Winterizing Your Vehicle

To help, the Car Care Council recommends the following tips:

• Have the battery and charging system checked for optimumperformance.

• Clean, flush and put new antifreeze in the cooling system. As ageneral rule of thumb, this should be done every two years.

• Inspect heaters, defrosters, lights and wipers.

• Check the brakes, tire tread depth and tire pressure. If snowand ice are a problem in your area, consider special tires de-signed to grip slick roads.

• If youʼre due for a tune-up, have it done before winter sets in.

• Have the exhaust system checked for carbon monoxide leaks.Be diligent about changing the oil and filter at recommended in-tervals.

• Keep the gas tank at least half full at all times. And stock anemergency kit with an ice scraper, jumper cables, flashlight, flares, blanket and needed medication.
