Did you know?Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that forms fromthe natural decay of uranium found in many soils. Colorless andodorless, radon can significantly increase a person's risk of lungcancer. Smokers who live in homes with high radon levels areespecially susceptible to lung cancer. Radon can enter a homeby moving up through the soil beneath a home and finding itsway through cracks and holes in the foundation. Many peoplemay feel homes with basements are especially susceptible toradon, but radon can enter a home whether the home has abasement or not. Granite countertops may emit radon, but notalways at levels that cause cancer. Countertops can be testedfor radon emissions, and such testing is inexpensive and quick.

Call Now For Fall Savings! How to make your holiday season more eco-friendly
Come the holiday season, it can be easy to overlook certain things, like eco-friendly liv-ing, in an effort to make entertaining easier. The holiday season has become a time ofexcess, with large meals, an overabundance of presents and other wasteful measures. This year, environmentally conscious hosts can make an effort to make their celebrationsmore environmentally friendly.
* Purchase locally made gifts to reduce the amount of shipping required. This cuts downon materials used and fossil fuels that power planes or cargo ships needed to transportproducts made overseas.
* According to the Environmental Protection Agency, roughly 40 percent of all batterysales take place during the holidays. Consumers concerned about the effect of batterieson the environment can give only battery-free gifts.
* Make your own gifts. Not all gifts have to be bought at the store. There are many mean-ingful gifts that can be made by hand, and homemade gifts cut back on potentially harm-ful production practices and transportation.
* Rely on natural items when decorating your home. When decking the halls this holidayseason, collect pine cones and holly from outdoors and make garlands from raffia orvines. These materials can be put into compost heaps or ground up into mulch later on,reducing waste.
* Cut back on lighting by reducing the number of lights you string up on your home andchoosing energy-efficient lights. LED lights, which use up to 95 percent less energy thantraditional bulbs, is another way to leave a smaller carbon footprint this holiday season.
* Avoid especially flashly wrapping paper. Glossy or metallic wrapping paper is hard torecycle. Use paper made of natural fibers or select plain postage paper and dress uppresents with reusable ribbons and bows.
Tree lighting tipsLighting a Christmas tree may seem like childʼs play, but time and again people strugglewith the task. Untangling wires and wrapping them around boughs can be nerve wrack-ing, but lighting a tree doesnʼt have to be a chore when you follow some tips from theprofessionals. First, keep in mind that wrapping lights around the tree horizontally ismore work and often doesnʼt produce a multi-dimensional effect. Rather, string the lightsfrom the trunk up to the top, working vertically. This is actually how the tree decoratorsat Rockefeller Center in New York City do the famous tree year after year. This methodhelps eliminate tangled wires and empty spots. Remember to plug in the strands of lightsbefore you begin to check for burnt-out bulbs and to adjust the spacing of lights to pre-vent dark spots. Think about varying light bulb sizes to add more dimension. String aninner layer of small LED white lights to produce an inner glow on the tree before addinglarger, colored lights on top to increase visual appeal. Just be sure to match the samewattage of the lights so that you do not have power surges and can prolong the life ofthe bulbs.

Defeat Water Damage
(NAPSI)—Rain- and snow- storms can leave lots of water in their wake, which soon re-sults in mildew, mold and moldy odor—but you donʼt have to live with it. Chlorine dioxidetechnology can eliminate mildew odor at its source, while preventing any recurrence fora good long time.
The deep-penetrating vapor of Star briteʼs MDG Mildew Odor Control Bags thoroughlypermeates enclosed areas to reach the source of odor and eliminate it. The Slow Re-lease version of these EPA-registered bags prevents foul odors from forming for up to90 days, to maintain air quality in cars, boats and recreational vehicles in storage. TheFast Release version is designed to eliminate foul odors overnight.

COURTHOUSE GALLERY: Naomi Lewis - November 16 - December 20, 2013Opening Reception: Saturday, November 16, 4 - 6 PM, This event is FREE & open to the public.Naomi Lewis will exhibit a series of works on paper and digital prints. By assembling a network ofrepeated visual elements that overlap and interlace with each other she creates structures that re-semble forms in nature. The patterns in her work are used to create decorative “pseudo” wallpaper, paper cut doilies, or modern day “samplers”, works layering images and stitching, which are looselybased on Colonial era “needlework samplers”. Multiple layers are created not only by the patternsof interweaving forms, but also by combining her own drawings with remnants from loved ones, such as handwritten recipes, notes or buttons. Her work celebrates the connection between do-mestic craft, such as wallpaper, doilies, and samplers, with her own personal history.Naomi Lewis received her M.F.A. in Printmaking from University at Albany, and her Bachelorʼs de-
gree in Studio Art from Skidmore College. Recent exhibitions include Artists of the Mohawk-HudsonRegion; Natura at Saratoga Arts Center; Assiduity, and Complex and Compelling at Albany CenterGallery; Infinite Images: Technologies of Printmaking and Beyond at the Mandeville Gallery atUnion College, Schenectady, NY. She has also shown her work at Pierogi Files in NYC, The ArtsCenter in Troy, NY, The Tang Museum at Skidmore College, and the Albany Institute for Historyand Art, Albany, NY. Her awards include a SOS Grant from The New York Foundation for the Arts, and a residency at Millay Colony, Austerlitz, NY. She lives in Albany, NY and is currently the Exhi-bition and Outreach Coordinator at the University Art Museum, University at Albany.
This exhibition is funded in part by Hacker Boat Company, Inc., and the New York State Councilon the Arts, a state agency. The Courthouse Gallery hours during exhibitions are Tuesday throughFriday 12 – 5 pm, Saturday 12 – 4 pm, and all other times by appointment. The Courthouse Galleryis located at the side entrance of the Old County Courthouse, corner of Canada and Lower AmherstStreets, Lake George, NY.
