Pines, who is also a novelist and a psychotherapist and who has curated the Lake George Jazz Festival since its inception, will read from his new book of poems “Fishing on the Pole Star.” The reading will be the official launch of the new book, which was published in April. “The idea of observing and capturing the intelligence and connectivity of creatures who swim in that other element opens the door to a hugely provocative metaphor,” said Pines. “Combining two different vantage points, the June 14 opening will demonstrate what the ancient Greeks called ekphrasis – one art form commenting upon and complementing another.” “Fishing on the Pole Star” is Pinesʼs eleventh book. His previous book of poems, “New Orleans Variations & Paris Ourboros,” was named the best volume of poetry published in 2013 by the Adirondack Center for Writing. Thompsonʼs paintings have been exhibited at the Gallery at Hague Creek in Hague, New York and at the Waterfront Museum in Brooklyn. Also a bookbinder, Thompson was among the artists se- lected to participate in the exhibition, “Defined Bindings: 26 Bindings of the Pictorial Websterʼs Dic- tionary,” which was shown in Boston and San Francisco. The poetry reading will take place during the reception at 5 pm. The Courthouse Gallery is located in the old Courthouse on lower Amherst Street in Lake George. Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County will meet on Saturday, June 21st, at 1pm at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, corner of Rt. 4 and Rt. 29 in Schuylerville. “Preserving Photographs and Documents” will be the program topic.
