REPORT COMPONENTS Prior to a discussion of the specific reports, it is important to understand the common components that you will find across the majority of reports.

Title Bars

On the right side of the screen, you will find the workbook pane. On the top of the pane is a Workbook title bar that communicates the name (1) of the workbook (“Default” is your starter workbook) and offers the same workbook actions (2) found in the left navigation accordion via a drop down menu.

Just below the Workbook title bar are a series of tabs (3) depending on how many reports you have opened. Each tab represents an open report within the workbook. A workbook may contain a maximum of 10 tabs. You may quickly navigate between the open reports in the workbook by clicking the tab. Clicking a report in the left pane will open a new tab within the workbook. The open report is marked by an orange tab. Stickiness: The interface is “sticky.” In other words, as you return to a tab, the state of the report will remain as you had last left it. Likewise, should you log out and come back in, you will be returned to the state at which you left. If you wish to always login with a clean slate and start on the welcome screen, update your preferences (See the Application Header > My Profile > Preferences section). In most title bars, you will find the following 3 options:

Report Type Toggle (4): On the orange Report title bar, you will find a drop down menu called Report. “Report” represents a report view consisting of a single time period (and optionally a compare period) with a chart and data table. Via the drop down, you can toggle to the “Trend” view of the report and for a few reports you will find a “Heatmap” and/or “Insights” view of the report.

Comments (5): To help your organization facilitate meaningful dialogue about your reports, you will find a Comments button in the title bar. Report Options (6): The report options area is a central location to make and apply a number of different changes to the report.

Comments

You might use this area to comment on trends you are seeing in the data or explain some of the metrics you see to other users. Also, you might consider using comments to create reminders to yourself to come back and analyze something the following day or week.

Adding a Comment:

1. Type a comment in the Add a Comment box. 2. If you would like to keep the comment to yourself, check “This comment is private.” If not selected, all users

with access to the report view can read it. 3. Click Add Comment.

The comments will be read chronologically with the most recent comment listed first. To narrow the view to only your comments, click the My Comments tab.

Managing Comments:

To manage comments, click the edit (pencil icon) to edit the comment or the delete (x icon) to delete the comment. If you wish to manage comments globally across report views, access the Manage > Report Options > Comments from the left navigation pane.

Report Options

The report options area is a central location to make and apply a number of different changes to the report. The dialog box features up to five tabs:

Calendar

From the calendar tab, you may select your Period A and optionally Period B date ranges. The “Recently Used” dates option provides easy access to your five most recent date range selections.

Date Selection: Select your desired radio button. If choosing a specific date range from the bottom of the screen, first make your selection (e.g. Fiscal Week), then choose the year (e.g. 2010), the month, and the specific range.

Comparison Period: Selecting a comparative “Period B” date range is optional. If you would like to compare two date ranges, click the check box next to Comparison Period B and make your desired selections.

Metrics

From the metrics tab, you are free to drag over the metrics that you wish to view on the report. To speed your ability to find a desired metric, you may select from the categorized drop down menu to narrow the results and/or type values into the Search box. Use the <Ctrl> or <Shift> keys to select multiple metrics and drag over.

Filters

You will find the Filters tab on almost every report. Choose from a wide set of fields and metrics via the drop down menu. Choose to filter on Period A, B, or any comparison option. You may apply a simple filter such as Page Views >= 5000 or string together a series of conditions separated by [And] and [Or] logic. The filter will query the entire report data set and return only rows matching your defined criteria.

1. Choose your Field or Metric from the drop down menu.

NOTE — To see an expanded list of metrics, choose All Metrics from the category list.

2. Select your Period (e.g. A, B or a variety of comparison options) 3. Select your Operator. Text fields offer the following options: Is, Starts With, Ends With, Contains, and

Wildcard. Numeric fields will offer >=, <=, =, and Between. Each will also offer “Not” options. 4. Choose to continue with an “OR” or an “AND” condition and repeat.

Segments

For segment applicable reports, you may now apply report segments in two ways. Your first option is to apply the segment directly from the report via the drop down menu beneath the date selector.

Alternatively, you may select your segments from the Segments tab in the Report Options dialog box. If Period B is active, you may choose to apply the same segment to both Period A and B or make Period A and B the same date and compare one segment to another.

What is a Report Segment? While a filter uses the fields and metrics in a report and then filters the information down to just the matching criteria, a report segment narrows the report to only the visitor sessions that match the criteria. In other words, reports segments facilitate relational analysis. For example, you might be analyzing your content categories report and wish to apply a report segment to learn which content is viewed by visitors arriving via Google campaigns or to determine which content is popular among visitors from Germany. Create Segment: To create a segment, click the Create Segment button in the upper right corner. It will launch the Report Segments creation wizard. From the left navigation pane, see Manage > Report Options > Report Segments

Comparison Settings

After selecting a Period B option in the Calendar tab, you may optionally turn on comparison metrics. On the Comparison Setting tab, select your desired comparison calculation options by clicking the check boxes. Hover over the option name to gain clarity for the calculation.

If you require the ability to turn on comparison options for some metrics, but not others, you can selectively perform this task by expanding the Advanced Options area and making individual selections.

Toolbar

On the report toolbar, you will find calendar selections and icons. This section (1) may be minimized to maximize viewable screen real estate.

Calendar

The drop down menu (2) next to the calendar icons allows you to select preset date values (e.g. yesterday, this week, last week). Alternatively, to select a specific date or date range, click the calendar icon (3). As discussed in the Segments section, you may also apply an available report segment (4) directly beneath the period selection. To activate comparative Period B, select the check box (5) and make your desired selections. You will also find a series of icons: Save (6), Share (7), Email (8), Download (9) and Print (10).

Chart

To gain perspective on the data, you may view different chart visualizations. By default, for most reports, you are presented with a Bar chart, but you may also quickly toggle (1) to Pie, Bubble, Trend, and Cumulative Trend views. For select reports, you will find different options including heat map, clickstream, and funnel visualizations. If you have multiple metrics in your table, you may toggle the chart metric (2) via the metric selector in the top right region. If you are viewing a Comparative “B” date range, the chart will reflect the B range alongside the A range. Hover over the values in the chart to see specifics. To maximize chart real estate, you may collapse the legend (3). You may also collapse the “Table” area below the chart to view the chart in the full pane. Likewise, you may collapse the chart area (4).

Bar Chart

Chart Selections

Click the check boxes next to each row of data that you wish to chart. Alternatively, click the drop down arrow in the check box column for quick options to Deselect All Rows or Select Top 5, 10 or 20.

To remove selected rows, simply uncheck in the data table or click the x in the chart legend.

Pie Chart

Because you may not select all available rows to chart, the pie graph comes with a disclaimer. It graphs your selections as if they present 100% of your visitor population. Click the X icon to clear the disclaimer.

Bubble Chart

The Bubble Chart requires at least two visible metrics in the report and is most often used to analyze three metrics at a time. You select an X axis metric, a Y axis metric and a metric to determine the size of the bubble. Turn on a comparison Period B to gain a visual understanding for movement between the two time periods.

Trend

The trend view provides a visual understanding for movement across multiple time periods. You may select up to 20 rows to trend. Simply check your desired boxes in the data table and then toggle to the trend view in one of two ways:

1. Select Trend (1) from the report style drop down menu in the title bar, or 2. Select the Trend (2) icon in the chart region

Beyond the standard trend, you may also view the cumulative trend (3) icon. The cumulative trend view sums each successive data point to provide a cumulative aggregation through the trend period. Also note that the data table lists each of the selected data points as the columns and each date in descending order as the rows. You may toggle back to the Report view by selecting the Report option (1) from the drop down menu in the title bar or the Report icon (4) in the Chart icon tray.

Once on the trend view, you may adjust your date range by selecting the number of periods (5) and your desired granularity (6) (days, weeks, months, quarters, years). To select a more specific range, click the calendar icon (7) and choose a historical end date and a more unique (e.g. 17) number of periods. Via the calendar menu, you may also turn on a comparison to the previous year and trend smoothing.

NOTE — In the Top Line Metrics report, you also have the option to compare to your Forecast values (if any have been imported).

Date Annotations

When viewing trends, you will find the option to view and add date annotations. By default, the annotations will be turned off, but you may select the drop down menu (1) to view All Annotations or My Annotations associated with that report and time period. Upon selection, you will find a summary box (2) above the trend line detailing each annotation in addition to visual indicators (3) on the trend line to view on click.

Create New Annotation Create a new date annotation by clicking the + icon (4). Fill in a name, a description (optional), and a date range for the annotation. Select to display on this report or on all reports (including your Explore reports), and select how you would like to share the annotation.

Managing Date Annotations You may manage Date Annotations inline on your trend report by clicking the edit (pencil icon) or delete (x icon) action buttons. Alternatively, you may globally manage date annotations via the Manage > Report Options > Date Annotations from the left navigation pane.

Heat Maps

Heat Maps are available only when using the Top Line Metrics report. You may access them via the contextual menu next to your desired metric or by selecting Heat Map from the Report drop down menu in the title bar. Heat Maps show daily and hourly averages offering a quick comparison across your selected weeks. They also provide a scale inclusive of the standard deviation (the wider part of the scale) to help you to better understand where the outliers lie. The red spot indicate periods where the activity was highest. The blue spots indicate periods where the activity was lowest. Heat maps can be useful in helping you to understand when to plan outages, when to run campaigns, how to set paid search day parting rules, and how to predict future trends.

Funnels

Funnels represent another visualization type found on select reports under the Reports > Paths left navigation pane. You may view standard funnel reports or build your own scenarios via the TruePath. Funnels represent visitor fall-out through a series of steps on your site.

REPORTS In the Reports accordion section in the left navigation pan, you will find your standard, best practice reports that span a range of topical areas including site metrics, marketing sources, product performance, content effectiveness, visitor demographics, visitor paths, and the make-up of your visitor’s systems. This section will discuss the setup reports. Review the “Guide Me: Best Practices” document for information on other reports.

Report Guidance

For information specific to each report including the purpose of the report, how to analyze it, suggested actions and sample use cases to help instruct your analysis, open the report and click Guide Me.

Alternatively, download the “Guide Me: Best Practices” document from the Help link in the Top Navigation Header for quick reference to all reports.

Insights

Insights reports programmatically unveil insights that you may have otherwise missed. Top Line Insights: The Top Line Insights report allows you to trend four metrics at a time and quickly discover which dates are outliers for your chosen metrics. Use the contextual menus on each date to navigate to additional reports to learn which marketing programs, content, products, etc. were responsible for the large swings on those dates. The blue bar indicates the average (or mean) value for that period. The blue bands indicate the standard deviation from the mean to more easily highlight the outliers.

Clickstreams

The Clickstream report is an open-ended pathing report for analyzing popular paths that visitors take on a web site. Using Clickstream, a user can view direct paths that visitors navigate prior to/after visiting a specified page, compare up to three Clickstream path funnels, and view Top five paths taken by visitors during the selected time period. The report enables users to observe trends in visitor behavior and determine what paths are most successful in leading to conversions.

Path Expansion To expand the paths, click the + sign at the end of each box. Each expansion will reveal the top eight next clicks in addition to how many visitors exited the path or went to pages beyond the top eight. You may expand as many nodes as you wish to visually compare visitor routes through your site.

TruePath Funnels TruePath is a flexible and powerful tool for analyzing visitor behavior over user defined paths within a web site. Using TruePath, a user can measure the success of visitors navigating through online processes such as checkout, registration, and online applications, or completing calls-to-action on specific marketing landing pages. By identifying these paths, a user can attempt to funnel customers toward these scenarios in order to drive incremental revenue and customer satisfaction. TruePath can also be used to examine the throughput and completion rate of defined process steps to pinpoint pages where visitors abandon and target these pages for improvement.

Managing TruePath Funnels You may manage TruePath Funnels from the list page accessible from Reports > Paths > TruePath Funnels in the left navigation pane. Search for your desired report in the search box at the top. Click the column headers to sort the columns in ascending and descending order. Click the check boxes on the left and choose to Restart, Stop or Delete the reports. Use the action icons to view the configuration, edit the funnel or create a copy and save as a new name. If you want to create a new TruePath and have not already downloaded the plugin, click the Download the TruePath Plugin button. The Funnel Name hyperlink opens the report.

Creating a TruePath Funnel TruePath Funnels are created via the Coremetrics Tools Plugin using the TruePath Builder. See Manage > Installations > Tools Browser Plugin from the left navigation pane for more information.

1. Launch the Coremetrics Tools Browser Plugin and select the TruePath Builder.

2. Choose to Create a New TruePath and start with a Blank TruePath 3. Navigate through your site until you come upon a page you wish to include in the path. 4. Drag and drop the icon representing that page (see below) into its appropriate place in the path (e.g., add

the page to a specific step or add it as a new step). 5. Optionally edit the step definition form and click OK. See Definition of Path Steps below.

6. As pages are added, the Path Layout section will display the structure of your TruePath report. Path steps can contain as many pages as you wish. Once the structure of your path is complete, Path Builder will

Page 44: Core Metrics userguide

ask you to enter basic information about the report (name, comments, optional back processing, etc.) and then you can process the TruePath report.

Definition of Path Steps Once you have either selected to build a new path from scratch or start with an existing path specification, Path Builder will display its step definition interface. Path Builder evaluates web pages as you browse and determines if the page contains appropriate Coremetrics tags. If Yes, then an icon is displayed in the top pane of the Path Builder. If no, then an error message is displayed.

TruePaths are built simply by dragging and dropping the current page icons to the desired position in the Path Layout pane of the Path Builder. When an icon is dropped into the Path Layout pane, an "Add Step to Path" pop-up appears allowing you to input additional criteria to define the step. In the pop up, you can specify:

• Name This Step The Page ID is entered by default, but you can enter a more descriptive name for the step if desired.

• Page ID By default, the current page is the only one selected for the step. However, groups of pages can be specified for the step by using the match criteria options provided. You can select all PageIDs that start with, end with, contain or exactly match whatever PageID text you enter, or else use a wildcard character.

• Link Choice Specify whether the step is:

Required: Visitors must proceed to the step prior to proceeding to the subsequent step in the path or:

Optional: Visitors may or may not browse the page(s) defined in the step prior to proceeding to the next step in the path.

Once you have specified this information for the current step, click the OK button and the step will be added to the Path Layout.

NOTE — You can add steps to any position within the path by dragging page icons into the first step or last step position in the Path Layout, in between existing steps or into existing steps. You may also drag and drop individual steps to re-order the steps within the path. Each step has an edit icon so you can alter the step criteria at any time.

Each step will also contain either a globe icon (if a step consists of a single page) or an asterisk (if a step consists of multiple pages). Clicking these icons will load either a specific web page or a list of the first 10 web pages that match the step criteria, respectively.

Continue this process until your entire path is fully specified.

Profile Segments A profile segment allows you to analyze a set of visitors determined by your criteria. The analysis can span sessions, as you are free to enter both a segment date range and a report date range. For example, you can analyze what pages were viewed in April by visitors who came at least twice in March. Unlike a Report Segment, which is applied to reports, a profile segment processes a series of reports including options such as a metric overview, top pages, top products, and session details for top buyers and top segment visitors.

Managing Profile Segments

You may manage Profile Segments from the list page accessible from Reports > Demographics > Profile Segments in the left navigation pane. Search for your desired report in the search box at the top. Click the column headers to sort the columns in ascending and descending order. Click the check boxes on the left and click delete to remove Profile Segments reports. Use the action icons to view the segment configuration, edit the segment or create a copy and save as a new name. The Profile Segment Name hyperlink opens the reports.

Creating Profile Segments

From the Profile Segments list page, click Create New Segment to get started. This will launch a three step wizard. Profile Segment Step 1 In Step 1 of the wizard, you must give the segment a name and select the date ranges. The first date range is the segment date range. In other words, over which dates should the system scan to find visitors matching your segment criteria? The second date is the analysis date. In other words, over which dates do you wish to report on this segment’s activity? If you would like both periods to match, click the Match the segment criteria date range box for convenience.

Profile Segment Step 2 In Step 2 of the wizard, you define the segment criteria. This process is very similar to defining filter or report segment criteria. Choose from a wide set of fields and metrics via the drop down menu. You may apply a simple criteria such as Number of Visits is Between 2 AND 3 or string together a series of conditions separated by [And] logic.

Profile Segment Step 3 In final step, you select which reports that you would like to run on this segment of visitors. You also have the choice to download known email addresses that match your segment criteria. Once finished, click Create Segment to initiate processing. Report Options include:

• Profile Metrics: A metric summary of the visitors matching your segment definition

• Top Profile Activity History: A detailed session by session activity view into the segment’s most active visitors.

• Top First Time Visitor Referral Sources: The top referral sources that lured these visitors for the first time.

• Top Products: The top products that this segment purchases

• Top Pages: The top pages that this segment views

WebSphere Commerce – Profile Segment Integration

Coremetrics' visitor profile transmission from Profile Segments is only available to Coremetrics for IBM WebSphere Commerce solution users whose organization is also using version 6.0 or later of IBM WebSphere Commerce.

When the IBM WebSphere Commerce segmentation feature is enabled, customer IDs associated with visitor segments created by Profile Segments can be exported from Coremetrics directly to IBM WebSphere Commerce where they can be leveraged in site marketing campaigns.

Configuring the Group Settings To enable the IBM WebSphere Commerce segmentation feature for a Coremetrics user account, your administrator will need to enable the IBM WebSphere Commerce Segmentation option within Profile Segments for the user group to which you belong. It should be noted that the user group must also have the Profile Segment option enabled as access to Profile Segments is required for the user of this feature.

The Data Export Setting option within Admin must also be checked so that Data Export Settings can be set up.

Data transmission settings are also required for successful export of the segment customer IDs. Your organization will need to specify various IBM WebSphere Commerce transmission settings using the Coremetrics Data Export Settings page located in the Admin console. Please see the Admin > Data Export section for information on the settings required for IBM WebSphere Commerce Segmentation.

Exporting the Customer ID List If the IBM WebSphere Commerce Segmentation feature has been enabled, active segments on the Profile Segment Report list page will show an "Export to IBM WebSphere Commerce" hyperlink.

Click on this hyperlink to send the customer ID list corresponding to the selected Profile Segment report to your IBM WebSphere Commerce platform. A message will be displayed once the data transmission has been successfully scheduled.

Link Analyses

You have two solutions for ad hoc analysis of specific link performance. The Inbound Link Analysis report facilitates analysis of links from external marketing sources to your web site. The On-Site Link Analysis report facilitates analysis of links living on your web site. Since both tools behave the same, we will cover them both in this section. Link Analyses are most commonly used to 1) analyze link performance for links not tagged with MMC, Real Estate or Site Promotion tags; and 2) analyze the impact of links across time including the downstream impact post the completion of a campaign.

Managing Link Analyses

You may manage Inbound Link Analysis from the list page accessible from Reports > Marketing > Inbound Link Analysis in the left navigation pane. You many manage On-Site Link Analysis from the list page accessible from Reports > Content > On-Site Link Analysis in the left navigation pane. Search for your desired report in the search box at the top. Click the column headers to sort the columns in ascending and descending order. Click the check boxes on the left and click the buttons on top of the table to take action on your selections. Use the action icons to view the report configuration, edit it or create a copy and save as a new name. The Report Name hyperlink opens the report.

Creating Link Analyses

To create a Link Analysis report, select Create New Report from the list page. On the Create screen, enter a Report Name and select an interaction type (Inbound Link Analysis Only).

Click Add Link to configure a link to analyze. On the form, fill out the following: 1. Link Name: The name that you would like to give to the link being analyzed 2. Referring Site: The name of the site that will show up in the report 3. Referring URL: The page on which the link can be found 4. Destination URL: The page to which the link lands the visitor 5. Cost (Optional): Your cost for the marketing initiative. Note: not applicable to On-Site Link Analysis 6. Number of Interactions (Optional): The number of interactions purchased. Note: not applicable to On-Site

Link Analysis 7. Start Date – End Date: The date range for which you want to analyze clicks 8. Track Until: The date by which you want to stop crediting these clicking visitors for downstream activity

and conversions

NOTE — You can use wildcards in the URL entries. You may want to do this to ensure your URL isn’t too specific (e.g. inclusive of dynamic parameters that other users won’t see) or to ensure that you capture links to and from a set of pages.

Example Wildcard entries:

• *yahoo* will find any URLs with the word “yahoo” in it.

• */abc.html will find any URLs ending in “abc.html”

• http://www.mysite.com* will find any URLs starting with “http://www.mysite.com”

• *google*furniture* will find any URLs containing both “google” and “furniture” in that sequence

WORKBOOKS A workbook represents a collection of reports. As reports are launched, they appear in the open workbook as tabs. These tabs allow you to quickly toggle between multiple reports for easy comparative analysis. Further, the collection of reports can be saved as a single unit.

Workbook Actions You can take action on workbooks from either of two places:

1. The Actions menu in the left navigation pane, or

2. The Actions menu in the top right corner of the Workbook pane

The workbook actions include:

• Create New Workbook: Offers you a dialog to enter a workbook name and description (optional) and places you on the welcome screen. Any subsequent report or dashboard clicked will become part of this workbook.

• Save Workbook As: Creates a copy of the workbook and launches the dialog to give it a new name.

• Delete Workbook: Deletes the workbook. Note: this does not delete the dashboards and report views that comprise the workbook.

• Close All Workbook Tabs: Removes all tabs from the workbook to give you a clean slate. To individually remove tabs, click the x on the tab.

• Cache Workbook/Stop Workbook Caching: The Cache Workbook option speeds the load time of the reports within your workbook such that when you return to view the workbook on subsequent days, the load time will be faster. Stop Workbook Caching turns off the caching.

NOTES:

• Each User ID can cache up to three workbooks. • Each workbook can contain up to 10 tabs. • Workbooks are sticky. As you return to a tab, the state of the report will remain as you had last left it.

Likewise, should you log out and come back in, you will be returned to the state at which you left. If you wish to always login with a clean slate and start on the welcome screen, update your preferences (See the Application Header > My Profile > Preferences section).

Further, the graph at the top of the page will allow you to view trends for KPIs graphed against your forecast and/or plan values. Marketing Channels The Marketing Channels report highlights the performance of your site's standard marketing channels as well as any custom marketing channels your organization has specified from the Channel Summary report of Coremetrics Analytics. By looking at the red and green change arrows, you can quickly spot which channel KPIs have increased or decreased relative to the prior time period as well as compared to the same time period in the previous year. Which channels are over performing? Which channels are under performing? Use new "to date" metric summations to identify which channels are lagging or ahead of pace for the current month, quarter or year. Further, the graph at the top of the page will allow you to view trends beyond the most recent two time periods to help identify if a large % change is an anomaly or a true shift in channel performance. Compare Key Metrics The Compare Key Metrics report enables you to quickly compare the trends of your key performance indicators. Do your key measurements typically trend in the same direction? Does success with one objective come at the expense of another?

You can select which metrics to trend from the list on the left of the graph. The normalized metrics checkbox translates the chosen metrics to a scale from zero to one enabling you to compare measurements of different units (e.g. page views vs. sessions) on a common scale.

Top Performers The Top Performers report highlights changes in key analysis areas of your site such as pages, page categories, search terms, and referrals. By looking at the trend arrows and figures for the last two periods, you can quickly spot which require attention. The interactive graph at the top of the page enables you to select a metric and display its trend over a longer time period to put recent results in context, so you can easily see if changes are an anomaly or show a true shift in visitor behavior. Natural Search Effectiveness The Natural Search Term Effectiveness report enables you to identify which non-paid search terms provide the greatest returns for your Web site. The index value metric is calculated using multiple key metrics including such factors as reach, conversion and value to derive a weighted score for comparative analysis.

You can further isolate and filter your analysis by selecting specific search engines on the left side, adjusting the weighted index and using the drop down box on the right side for graphing and sorting options.

On-Site Effectiveness The On-Site Search Term Effectiveness report enables you to identify which on-site search terms provide the greatest returns for your Web site. The index value metric is calculated using multiple key metrics including such factors as searches, conversion and value to derive a weighted score for comparative analysis.

You can further isolate and filter your analysis by adjusting the weighted index and using the drop down box on the right side for graphing and sorting options.

Visitor Conversion The Conversion Funnel report maps the flow of visitors through your site’s key conversion process. The funnel represents a graphical view of the narrowing percentage of visitors that advance from site entrance through each key conversion point on your site. By monitoring these percentages over time, you can quickly assess whether or not your site changes are addressing any high abandonment points. Visitor Geography The Visitor Geography - United States report enables you to identify which regions of the United States initiate the greatest number of visitor sessions. The sessions/capita map factors in the populations of each of the states to indicate that while you may have more visitors from large states like TX, CA, and NY, you may be reaching a larger percentage of potential visitors in less populated states. In addition to the data table below the maps, you can reveal the values by hovering over each state.

The Visitor Geography - Global Countries reports enable you to identify which regions of the world initiate the greatest number of visitor sessions. The darker shadings indicate a relatively high amount of session traffic. The sessions/capita map factors in the populations of each of the countries to indicate that while you may have more visitors from large countries like China and India, you may be reaching a larger percentage of potential visitors in less populated countries. In addition to the data table below the maps, you can display the values by hovering over each country.

Once the Tracking Code Generator has been successfully downloaded to you computer, click on the desktop icon to launch the Tracking Code Generator. The Tracking Code Generator can also be accessed via Start > Programs > Coremetrics > Tracking Code Generator.

There are four tabs in the Tracking Code Generator.

1) Marketing Program Codes: Use this section to generate MMC (cm_mmc=) tracking codes for off-site campaign links. Data from MMC tracking codes is populated into the Marketing Programs report. A user can also input marketing program attribute values that they would like attached to the destination URLS for specific marketing programs (e.g. cm_mmca1=). The Marketing Program attribute columns in the Tracking Code Generator are optional fields. A user can leave these fields blank and the Tracking Code Generator will still process and append standard MMC parameters values. Data from Marketing Program Attribute tags populate into Explore. To learn more about Attributes please refer to the Explore User Guide that is posted on the Coremetrics Customer Support website. 2) Real Estate Codes: Use this section to generate Real Estate (cm_re=) tracking codes for onsite links. Data from Real Estate tracking codes is populated into the Real Estate report. Real Estate tracking codes allow you to track the performance of multiple on-site links that live on a single page on your website to enable you to see how different areas and aspects of a page are performing. With the hierarchical reporting layout, you can use naming conventions to test the performance of alternate versions, measure changes, and determine high value real estate. 3) Site Promotions Codes: Use this section to generate Site Promotions (cm_sp=) tracking codes for on-site links. Data from Site Promotion tracking codes is populated into the Site Promotions report. Site Promotion tracking codes allow you measure the success of on-site links or promotions that live on multiple pages or placements on your website. Hierarchical categorization allows you to track impressions and performance for dynamic promotions, A/B tests, and provides aggregate activity for links and/or banners across your website. 4) Marketing Impression Codes: Use this section to generate Impression Attribution tags for impression tracking of off-site campaigns (e.g. Display Ads, Micro-sites, Widgets, Facebook interactions, etc). Data from Marketing Impression tags is populated into the Coremetrics Explore. A user can also input marketing program attribute values that they would like appended to specific Marketing Impression tags (e.g. cm_mmca1=). The Attribute columns in the Tracking Code Generator are optional fields. A user can leave these fields blank and the Tracking Code Generator will still process and create the Marketing Impression tags. To learn more about Attributes please refer to the Explore User Guide that is posted on the Coremetrics Customer Support website.

Marketing Program Codes

The Marketing Programs Codes tab generates marketing tracking codes (cm_mmc) for off-site URLs. 1) First, download the Template by clicking on the Download Template button. Give the template file a unique name (e.g. MMC_template1.xls) and save it to your desktop. Open the excel template from your desktop and input the desired destination URLs and parameter values and then save the file to your computer. Below is an example.

2) Next, in the Tracking Code Generator specify the Marketing Programs format. Option 1: Single parameter format (Recommended) Option 2: Multi parameter format Option 3: Obfuscated format If you choose to obfuscate your parameters this means that visitors that click on links with MMC parameters appended to the URLs will not be able to see the individual parameter values, but instead see a random string of numbers and letters. 3) Then, select an option for existing codes found in the file. Option 1: Keep existing code value (only generate MMC codes for rows where code is blank) Option 2: Overwrite all existing MMC code values Select to ‘Keep existing code values’ if you only want previously unstamped URLs to be updated and existing URLs with appended parameters to remain the same in your Excel file. This is often done when you are adding additional links to an old file. Select option 2 if you want to strip existing parameters and replace them according to new parameter formatting and assignments.

4) Next, click on Browse button and choose the excel file template you saved to your desktop previously. The excel file name will be displayed in the field next to the ‘Browse’ button. 5) Click the Create Codes button and input a new unique file name (e.g. MMC_output.xls) for the output file and save the output file to your desktop. A pop up message will display if the file was successfully processed along with the number of rows successfully processed. Click OK.

Then go to your desktop and open up the output excel file that you processed. Now the URLs will have the MMC parameter appended to them. Below is an example.

If there are errors for rows in your file review the content that is populated in column F to correct the error and then reprocess the file using the Tracking Code Generator. If column F is blank this means that specific row does not contain any errors and is a valid MMC URL. Marketing Program Codes Advanced Settings There are Advanced Settings that can be utilized in the Marketing Programs Codes section of the Tracking Code Generator. These are optional settings and are NOT required in order to generate MMC tracking URLs. To access the Advanced Settings click on the down arrow icon that is located next to the words ‘Advanced Settings’.

Embedded URL Path: The Tracking Code Generator supports the use of complex URLs which contain embedded URLs. This will allow you to add tracking codes to an embedded URL, rather than just the base URL. If you do not have embedded URLs, this area should remain blank. If you have embedded URLs, enter the path variable in the Embedded URL path. If more than one variable is required, they must be comma separated. For example, if you have URLs like: http://www.example.com?redir=www.mysite.com&blah=1234 and want the MMC codes appended before the “&blah=1234” you would enter “redir” (without quotes) into the field to indicate this is the variable to be stamped. If the final landing page URL is nested deeper you must also enter the preceding variable names.

For example, if you had: http://www.example.com?action=redir%3Dwww.mysite.com&blah=1234 (where %3D is the URL encoded form of “=”), your would put “action, redir” in the Embedded URL path. Embedded URL path variable names should be alphanumeric only. If you are not using embedded URL paths leave this field blank. If you have entered an embedded URL path you must select the option to take if the embedded path does not exist. You can chose to either generate an error and skip the URL, leaving it as is, or stamp the MMC code onto the base URL.

3) Then, select the option for existing codes found in the file. Option 1: Keep existing code value (only generate RE or SP codes for rows where the code is blank) Option 2: Overwrite all existing RE or SP code values Select ‘Keep existing code values’ if you only want previously unstamped URLs to be updated and existing URLs with appended parameters to remain the same in your Excel file. This is often done when you are adding additional links to an old file. Select option 2 if you want to strip existing parameters and replace them according to new parameter formatting and assignments.

4) Next, click on the Browse button and choose the excel file template you saved to your desktop previously. The excel file name will be displayed in the field next to the ‘Browse’ button. 5) Then click the Create Codes button and input a new unique file name (e.g. RealEstate_output.xls) for the output file and save the output file to your desktop. A pop up message will display if the file was successfully processed and the number of rows successfully processed. Click OK.

Then go to your desktop and open up the output excel file that you processed. Now the URLs will have the Site Promotion or Real Estate parameters appended to them. Below are two examples. Site Promotions Example:

Real Estate Example:

If there are errors for rows in your file review the content that is populated in column E to correct the error and then reprocess the file using the Tracking Code Generator. If column E is blank this means that specific row does not contain any errors and is a valid tracking URL.

Report Segments A report segment is a group of visitor sessions that can be applied to select segment applicable reports. It is defined by a series of user criteria separated by [Ands] and [Ors]. See Report Components > Report Options > Segments for more information on how to apply a segment to a report. While a filter uses the fields and metrics in a report and then filters the information down to just the matching criteria, a report segment narrows the report to only the visitor sessions that match the criteria. In other words, reports segment facilitate relational analysis. For example, you might be analyzing your Page Categories report and wish to apply a report segment to learn which content is viewed by visitors arriving via Google campaigns or which content is popular among visitors from Germany.

Managing Report Segments

You may manage Report Segments from the list page accessible from Manage > Report Options > Report Segments in the left navigation pane. Search for your desired Report Segment in the search box at the top. Click the column headers to sort the columns in ascending and descending order. Click the check boxes on the left and click the buttons on top of the table to take action on your selections. You may apply a simple criteria such as Number of Visits is Between 2 AND 3 or string together a series of conditions separated by [And] or [Or] logic.

Report Segment Step 3 In the final step, you select the report for which you would like to make the segment available for application. By default, you may pick up to four reports. When finished, click Create Segment to initiate processing.

User Administration

User administration consists of three components: My Account, Manage Users and Manage Groups.

My Account

The My Account area is accessible to all users. It allows users to update their name, title, department, and contact information. Further, it provides a means for the user to change his/her password. After making any changes, click Save.

Manage Users

The Manage Users section allows administrators to manage all of their user accounts. The search box at the top of the form allows administrators to quickly narrow the view. Click the column headers to sort the columns ascending or descending. Select the check boxes on the left and click Delete Users to remove a user’s account. To edit the user account, click the hyperlink in the User Name column. To download a list of user account information, click the Download button at the top right of the form. User Groups govern to what a particular user has access. Thus, it is important to ensure each user group is carefully created and that new users are placed in appropriate groups. The Manage Groups section allows administrators to manage all of their user groups. The search box at the top of the form allows administrators to quickly narrow the view including searches on Client ID or Client Name. To edit the user group, click the hyperlink in the User Group Name column. To download a list of user groups, click the Download button at the top right of the form.

New User Group To create a New User, click the New User Group button at the top of the form. Give the group a name and click the Select button to choose a Client ID. Under Permission options, place a check box to the left of every function to which you want the user group to have access.

NOTE: Administrators (only Administrators) have the ability to share a report view with a user group without granting them access to the report. For example, you might not want your agency to have access to all of your marketing programs, but you may want to give them access to your Display Ad Campaign results. In their user group, remove access to the “Marketing Programs” report. Then go to Marketing Programs and create a new report view (e.g. Display Campaigns) and save it. Then click Share and share it with your agency’s group.
