A GLIMPSE INTO OUR GIVING

CORE was introduced to Bianka Kucelin on June 29, 2015. Her mother Ana is the Menu and Wellness Specialist for City Schools of Decatur (Georgia) Nutrition Department, working with the kitchen staff to test and implement new recipes, and to analyze their recipes so they comply with federal regula-tions. Ana also works with farm to school on promoting local foods, working in kitchens as a sub if needed, cooking/preparing foods.

Bianka was diagnosed with brain cancer in February of 2014. She went through chemo and was cancer-free for 6 months. In mid-May of 2015, Bianka's cancer came back, and when she went to start radiation, she had a

tumor bleed into her brain. She was sent home on hospice and remained stable for a few weeks when she took a turn for the worse. Her scans showed tumor growth and she was once again sent home on hospice to be with her family for her final days. She passed away July 29, 2015.

CORE gave Bianka and her 3-year-old sister Kalie Bella a bedroom makeover with many of Bianka's favorite things, a new bed to replace her hospital bed, a new coat of paint for the walls, and beautiful decor with inspira-tional messages along the walls. The Kucelin family will forever have a place to go to remember Bianka and her bright light.

Erick Montesinos Sr. has worked as a line cook for close to 10 years at The Interconti-nental Hotel in Buckhead, GA. On May 1st, Erick was at work when he received the call from his wife Dheysi that their apartment building was on fire. The entire building was destroyed. Erick and Dheysi lost everything. Fortunately, Dheysi, their 16-month-old daughter, Kelly, and 7-year-old son, Erick Jr., made it out safely. In just a few minutes, everything

they owned and have worked so hard for went up in flames. CORE visited the family in Atlanta and took the family on a shopping spree to get the children everything they need to get back on their feet: clothing, diapers, toys, books, etc., and bedroom furniture for Erick Jr.. We are happy to report that the Montesinos family is settled into their new home and life is back to normal.

Oliver, Paisley & Kylie SmithOliver of Nashville, TN is the 2-year-old son of Order in the Court owner Ryan Smith. Oliver and his father are both vision-impaired. Ryan is com-pletely blind and the Smiths have yet to know how much Oliver can see since he is so young. They will learn more as he gets a little older.

CORE worked with the family to purchase toys and other technologies to help support Oliver as he continues to grow and learn. With a gift of an iPad from CORE, Oliver has started to be able to see and recognize color as well as watch TV and play games when holding it

very close to his face, something his parents never thought possible.

Oliver has two older sisters, Paisley and Kylie. Paisley is 4 1/2 and loves the movie "Frozen" and fairies. The oldest sister, Kylie, loves volleyball, music, art and being a Girl Scout. CORE took Oliver's sisters and mom out for a girl's night, and a shopping spree to American Girl for Paisley and Hobby Lobby and Target for Kylie. We had so much fun! Such a won-derful, hard-working and inspiring family!

Mateo, McHale & Maddux ShawMateo and McHale Shaw of Sheboygan, WI were born at 32 weeks as conjoined twins. They endured a 19-hour separation surgery, and they both survived, despite the fact they only had a 5 percent chance for one of them to survive. Now their biggest chal-lenge is Spina Bifida. Both boys use wheel-chairs and Mateo uses a walker for short distance. They are now 8-years-old and have a 4-year-old brother, Maddux, who is the absolute biggest help to them.

Mateo and McHale have had over 40 surgeries together. Their dream was to ride all of the rides at Disney and to meet princesses because, as they say, every princess needs a prince! Maddux wanted to play with them in a place they could all just be kids. We are happy to share that CORE was able to make their dreams come true, giving the Shaw family an opportunity and family vacation of a lifetime!
