-Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.-Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex color.-Incorporate 250 words of body copy and 4 HQ images

I knew immediately that I wanted to try and make a brochure that felt like you were walking into the apartments themselves, so I chose to use the double door design so that the middle of the inside would be big enough to really show off an apartment. From that concept, I had to create a logo, which stated as a keyhole kind of design, but eventually became a key instead. I felt that the key could tie into the text of the logo better that the keyhole. After creating the logo on Adobe Illustrator, I worked in InDesign to create the layout of the brochure that matched what I had been picturing. I used Photoshop to cut out the portions of the images I wanted to use in my brochure. I used the quick select tool to cut out the hot tub and the raquetball to put in the side flaps of my brochure and then placed those cutouts in InDesign. From there I used to text tool to copy and paste the information from Word to InDesign and that completed my design process. The printing was a whole other adventure, but I explain that in detail in the video above.

-Acquire a working knowledge of html and CSS.-Identify hex codes for colors-Write content to describe process of creating my logo

I used my old logo and cropped it in a new document in Photoshop that I then saved as a Jpeg. I linked that logo in my html document so that it would show up on my page. I used Text Wrangler to write the html and the css documents that created this page. Throughout the process I would keep the Web page loaded up and refresh it so that I could make sure that the changes I was making would not upset the code that was already set up. After completing the html I downloaded the css sheet and linked it to my html page. From there it was just a matter of changing the fonts and colors to match my logo and message.

-Learn Basic Photography skills-Learn to adjust levels, and vibrance, and match colors.-Use layers in Photoshop-Print with full bleed edges

I took a picture at my friend’s apartment, because the bright red toolbox and the teal dresser really caught my eye and I knew that that would work as two-thirds of a great color scheme. So I found a lime green blanket and some sketches she had worked on and included them. I adjusted the levels and vibrancy because the original was a bit dingy and didn’t really pop. Then I used selective colors to make the different colors work together better. Once I finished adjusting the photo, I created a background for it to sit on top of that used the same color as the picture to keep a consistent color scheme.

-Create 3 different logos for a company of your choice using only Illustrator tools.-Market research to find the best logo.-Create 3 variations of that logo.

I used Adobe illustrator to come up with the designs. First I started with several sketches, then moved on to create my three strongest sketches in illustrator. From there I polled an audience of classmates as well as friends on Facebook to see what people thought was the best design. That design then was used to create these variations.

-Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.-Create a new logo and use it to layout letterhead and business cards for the company.

I started by figuring out what company I wanted to create stationery for and settled on company my brother and I started. From there I went to Adobe Illustrator to create a logo for the company. I copied that logo over to a document in Adobe Indesign, where I inserted text boxes and changed the layout to what I thought would be a good design. After seeking a couple of critiques I found that there were a couple things I could change to make my design more clean and less cluttered. This is the final design I came to for the latterhead portion of the project.

-Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.-Create a new logo and use it to layout letterhead and business cards for the company.

The first part of this project was to come up with a logo for the company. I went with a cartoonish logo because the company is involved in comics as well as animation. The color scheme was made to stand out and really pop, but I wanted to keep it simple and straightforward. After playing with several different compinations of colors I stuck with this one because I felt it matched what I was going for. After the logo was set, the card was quite simple to put together. I used the logo very dominanlty on one side so that the other side could be clean.

-Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks-Apply typography principles

I thought of a message I wanted to convey that met the parameters of the assignment. I wanted to create something that could inspire those going through trials in their lives. I found two images from the internet and one of my own to create this montage. Using Adobe Photoshop, I put the images together and used layer masks and a black brush to intermingle the pixels and create opacity.I wanted the images to appear as if they belonged together even though, they came from completely different sources. The stylized text was meant to emphasize the parts of the quote that I felt had the strongest impact.

-Comprehend image sizing and scanning-Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs

I started by deciding what kind of picture I wanted to scan for the first part of the project. When I realized I had some really good comic books I could use for the scan I started thinking about what kind of event I could do with that. Once that was decided, the rest was fairly simple. I used Microsoft word to design the ad. I knew that I wanted to use a comic book style in my text, but didn’t want to use Comic Sans, so I looked for a more action looking typeface but couldn’t find one that fit, so I went with Chalkduster. It feels like a comic book type of font but sill fits the childish tone.

-Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.-Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve flier layout.

I created sketches to match the tone and message I wanted to convey. From those sketches I chose the one that seemed best, then used Adobe InDesign to create the layout I was looking for. I had to cut out a couple small details that seemed good on the sketch, but felt cluttered in the finished product. After two critique sessions, I noticed two small changes I could make with fonts and layout to make it feel more balanced and to help the negative space flow through the design rather than trapped.
