General Information

The Coral system is delivered to the site with factory-loaded software on FMsl1, IMC4, IMC8, IMC162 or CFD3 flash memory cards.

The card contains the following three types of data:

Generic Feature Software Version

Authorization

Database

The card can be inserted into a PC slot using any PC card application adapter for loading a new Coral software version.

Whenever an updated version of the Coral software is released, the upgrade is delivered to the sites either on 3.5" diskettes, CD, DVD, e-mail, or via other electronic media file transfer methods. The upgrade is contained in a self-extracting compressed file, specific for the site. The upgraded generic feature software must be extracted by a PC, and then written from the PC hard disk into the memory card.

Installing the FMPRMAN

In order to use FMprog, you must register the product using FMPRMAN (included on the FMprog-Utility Installation CD). FMPRMAN is Tadiran’s FMprog Authorization Manager application, which allows you to register FMprog by saving the authorization key supplied by your Tadiran support desk (see Registering the FMprog, page 21).

When installing the FMprog for the first time, you can install the FMPRMAN before or after the FMprog-Utility. However, if you have an older version of FMprog (below Version 6), it is recommended to first install the FMPRMAN before upgrading the FMprog (see Upgrading to an Updated Version of FMprog, page 29). This allows you to continue working with the existing FMprog while you begin the registeration process (see Registering the FMprog, page 21) required for the new FMprog (Version 6 or higher).

To install FMPRMAN on your computer:

1 Log on to Windows. It is recommended that no other applications be running during the installation process, including any anti-virus programs that may be running in the background.

2 Insert the FMprog-Utility Installation CD into the CD-ROM drive.

3 From the Desktop, double-click the My Computer icon, and then double-click the drive in which you inserted the FMprog-Utility Installation CD.

4 Double-click the FMPRMAN setup.exe file to run the FMPRMAN setup program; the setup wizard is activated.

Removing a Memory Card from the Coral System

When replacing a flash card (FMsl, IMC4/8/16) with another card that contains upgraded software, the new card might not contain an updated database. If the new card does not contain a database, it is important to make a binary backup of the existing database before removing the card. See the Database Binary Backup PC Utility Reference Manual for further details.

Before removing a memory card from the Coral system, do the following:

Verify that the database is not being backed up, as described below.

Turn the Coral power supply OFF.

To remove a memory card from a Coral IPx Office system:

1 When required, save the Coral database to the flash card and wait while the data is being written to the flash card.

2 Verify that the database is not being backed up: To verify whether database backup is being executed:

Activate the Do-Not-Disturb feature (default access code #145) from any phone with a display panel.

Cancel the feature.

If the following message appears on the display, database backup is being executed: TEMP. BLOCKED B A C K U P.

3 If the database is not being backed up, turn OFF the power supply in the main cage.

4 If expansion cages are installed in the system, turn the power supply of all expansion cages OFF.

5 If the main power supply is turned OFF, press the flash memory card release button on the front panel of the main cage. This releases the flash card from the drive.

The flash card could be damaged if removed when the system is powered. Data will be lost if power is removed from the system while programming the flash memory during backup.

Verifying File Content / Image on a Memory Card

Verifying the content of a file with the image on a memory card means comparing the information on the memory card with the information in the file. This command compares the contents of the memory card with the contents of the file specified in the File path field.

For example, if you enter C:\Coral_FM\SLMEX\Version\1245.4mb, the contents of the FMsl card are compared with the contents of the 1245.4mb file located in the directory C:\Coral_FM\SLMEX\Version.

Use this option to verify that your files are written correctly from/to the memory card, and to display the status of verification.

To verify the content of a file with the image on memory card:

1 Insert a memory card for which you want to verify information in a PC card slot.

2 From the Card drive letter drop-down list (Windows 98 only), select the PC card slot with the memory card.

3 In the File path field, enter the path of the file with which you want to compare or click the Browse button to select the file.

4 Click Verify; the application compares the information at both locations. If the information is verified as identical, the following message appears:

If the information is verified as different, the following message appears:

Files Extract Tab

The memory card contains an image file composed of three contributing files:

Generic Feature Software Version

Authorization

Database

Each of these files can be updated individually and compiled and replaced in the memory card. The Generic Feature Software Version file can be combined with an Authorization file customized for a customer as needed. Similarly, the Database file can be extracted from a memory card and inserted into a new memory card. The contents of the new memory card will be the newly compiled image file, which included the updated Generic Feature Software Version file, customized Authorization file, and correct Database file.

The Files Extract tab allows you to separate the individual files regarding the Generic Feature Software Version, Authorization, and Database on an image file. The individual Generic Feature Software Version, Authorization, and Database files are saved into separate files on your computer according to the file path specified in the relevant field.

The program contained on the memory card allows the generic software to be used even if the serial number of the SAU is incorrect, or if the SAU is absent entirely. If, however, the Coral determines that the SAU is missing or not correct, a message appears during the procedure warning that the system will not operate without the proper SAU. This provision allows the generic feature software and/or feature authorizations to be upgraded on a memory card in another remote system, and then installed in the proper system by replacing the existing memory card with the upgraded one.

To install a flash memory card:

1 Remove the old memory card, as described in Removing a Memory Card from the Coral System, page 38

2 Verify that the power supply in the main cage or cabinet is turned OFF.

3 If expansion cages are installed in the system, turn the power supply of all expansion cages OFF.

4 Insert the new memory card containing the upgraded generic software version into the drive on the front panel of the main control processor card.

.

Before installing a memory card into the Coral system, always turn the Coral power supply OFF. The flash card could be damaged if installed when the the system is powered.

Push the memory card very gently during the card insertion. The flash memory card could be damaged if inserted with excessive force.

After the second message appears, the system is initialized properly and capable of processing calls. After entering the password, the version level of the generic feature software is indicated where the x's appear in the line that reads CCS xx.xx.xx.

If the new memory card does not include a backup of the current database, perform the procedure described in the Programming Interface Manual, Flash: Save section.
