• The Directory of Healthcare & Biotech (DH&B) contains details of companies, contacts, deals and investors who work in and for the life science industry world wide. It has been optimised for business development and corporate development activities, particularly licensing, partnering, and investing. Although there are several databases with similar information already on the market DH&B is different in several ways. 

• The database is highly relational, so it can be used to answer detailed search queries (such as, “which people, who work for VCs, sit on the boards of biotech companies in Germany with an oncology franchise”, or, “what deals have been done by pharma companies with corporate venturing arms, with biotech companies that have an expertise in epigenetics”)

• The database physically lives on the device it runs on (iPad, iPhone, or laptop) so no internet connection is necessary – a huge plus for use “on the fly” during networking meetings. However, the system takes advantage of added functionality when it is connected to the internet to enable you to browse side-by-side websites, stock market quotes, interrogations of “ClinicalTrials.gov”, Twitter streams, Linkedin profiles, etc. 

• The database also comes with a built-in contact management system, which enables you, amongst other things, to add meeting notes, including make audio notes or take photographs, and then email the note to a colleague

• DHB Public contains all of the information on companies, locations, boards, investments, deals and contacts.

• We update this information every day and you can subscribe for updates on a monthly basis if you wish

• So far, all of the screenshots have been of data in DH&B Public

• DHB Private is a contact management system

• We provide this as an empty file for you to fill with your private information on companies, locations and contacts

• It is especially powerful for creating meeting notes, including appending voice notes or other files

• We can customise the layout of this part of the database to suit the way you work

• No-one else can see what you put into this, but we can provide a bespoke solution if several of you in the same work group want to pool information

• Don’t forget - this is your data, we have no access to it and you are responsible for backing it up!

The iPad and iPhone allow you to attach voice notes, a photograph or several other types of file to a meeting note (you can even use Siri to take dictation and type your note for you)

You can then email the meeting note, or the file attachment, to a colleague, linking to the Contacts

application on your iPhone or iPad if you wish

Pricing structure

• If you purchase DH&B you get the entire database on to your device from day 1. It does not “wear out” or wipe itself off your machine at the end of a fixed time. Unlike subscription databases you do not lose access to your copy of DH&B at the end of a fixed time.

• We have been collecting data for DH&B since 2003 and are very open about the timeliness or otherwise of some of the information in it. Hence we set the purchase price to be based on the number of recently updated records in the database on the day you purchase it (ie, the older ones are “free”). We are updating the database very quickly, so the initiation cost is increasing with time.

• You can also subscribe for monthly updates. We have deliberately kept the cost of monthly updates low (£50 per person per month) as monthly update activity increases the purchase price of DH&B, early adopters can benefit from low priced monthly updates

• The license is on a per person basis, and each person can load the database on one laptop (Windows or Mac) one iPad and one iPhone. (Additional software needs to be purchased to run DH&B on a laptop.)

• There are significant discounts available for multiple purchases from the same company.

• We believe that DH&B will run on a Windows 8 tablet (but we haven’t tested it yet). It will not run on Android devices or Blackberry’s

• The contact management system is supplied “as is”. Although we will conduct some modifications for you pro bono, significant customisation (eg, to integrate it into a group-wide contact management system) will be the subject of a separately costed project.

Our philosophy concerning personal informationDH&B has been developed primarily as a tool for business development activities. As such, most of the information in the Directory is centred on companies, therapies, technologies, deals and investors. However, people that work for a company are, of course, a very important component of any due diligence exercise, particularly if a user of DH&B is looking for a company for partnering or investing, It is also essential to know who to contact at a potential partner company.

We want to include in DH&B the senior management and board or every life science company we can find. In general this information is freely available on the company website or through internet search engines, or is a matter of public record when filing company accounts. We also want to include those below senior management who work in areas relevant to business development activities. (We have also included those people below senior management in other functions where the individual has asked to be included.)

The information we hold falls into three broad levels and individuals can choose to opt-out completely from the database, or just have level 1, or level 1 plus specific information from levels 2 and 3 included:

Level 1 is what we call “existence” information. This is name, job title and a reference to the location at which the individual works. It also includes some job function keywords that we have added as an aid to searching the database (eg, having “business-development” as a keyword for searching is more accurate than trying to search within the wide variety of job titles that encompass that function). Note, although level 1 information contains no personal contact information, there is usually some non-personal contact information in DH&B in the form of the address, main switchboard and main fax number of the location at which the individual works.

Level 2 are links to information that the individual and/or his/her company have already put into the public domain. We do not, and will not, hold biographical information in DH&B, but would like to provide users with links to entries in Linkedin, on company websites and Twitter, where the data subjects themselves have published and are responsible for the content. (We do not include links to Facebook as we believe that is primarily a social, rather than a business, website)

Level 3 information is specific, direct contact information. This could include any or all of work direct dial number, mobile number, email, Skype address and direct work fax number.

We do not hold any other information about an individual in DH&B
