The Methodology of MRO Prospector
The Aviation Week data and analytical team annually conduct extensive surveys of global operators and MRO’s each year to capture a variety of aircraft, engine and regionally specific information including:
• Maintenance program descriptions• Average maintenance scheduling yield• Average man-hours to accomplish C checks and HMVs• Average labor rates• Average material expense for C checks and HMVs• Average engine on-wing reliability (engine hours between shop visits)• Average cost for engine overhaul and for hourly based maintenance
programs• Average aggregate component maintenance expense for off-wing repair
and overhaul of components• Average line maintenance expense inclusive of labor and consumable
materials (but exclusive of rotable components)
33
The Methodology of MRO Prospector
Data is updated within MRO Prospector continually throughout the year:
• Organizational data – every other week• Fleet data – monthly• Contract data – monthly• Maintenance event and opportunity data – quarterly
Misc. data points:
• Engine events are forecast based upon aircraft utilizations (flight hours/cycles per year) and average engine on-wing reliability (i.e.; engine hours between shop visits)
• Commercial operators of western-built commercial jets are covered in MRO Prospector• Almost 200 of the top global airports are covered in MRO Prospector
