Jesus is Born(Luke 2)

On the first Christmas, God sent His son to be the most wonderful gift to everyone in the world. Mary gave birth to baby Jesus in a stable among animals. it was cold and dark in the stable but this was exactly the place God had chosen. Angels told shepherds nearby to go and see baby Jesus. The shepherds went and found Jesus; the saviour and king of the World.

Far away, in another country in the East, there lived old and very wise men. ey had read more books than anybody else and liked to watch the stars every night. One night they saw a new star in the sky that they had never seen before. e men said to each other, “A new star means that a king has been born in Judah. Come, let us go to Israel and nd the new king.”

ey took their camels and prepared gi s, and then started out on their long journey to the West, towards Israel. ey went up to Jerusalem to the palace of King Herod and said, “We know that a new king has been born in Israel because we have seen his star. We have come to kneel down before him and give him our gi s.” But the old evil King Herod an-

swered them, “I don’t know where this new born king is. But when you nd him, let me know so I also can go and honor this new king.” But Herod was lying. He did not want to honor the new king. He wanted to kill Jesus because he was jealous of anyone else who was called king in his country.

Matthew 256. The Wise Men e wise men promised King Herod to return and tell him where he could nd the new king, and then they continued their search. ey came to Bethlehem and there they found Joseph, Mary, and little baby Jesus in a house. en they kneeled down and honored Jesus and gave their ne and expensive gi s. ey were the kind of gi s you typically would give to a king, gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

In a dream the same night, an angel told the wise men that they should not go back and tell King Herod about where they had found Jesus. In-stead they went another way back to their country. When the three men did not come back to the palace in Jerusalem, King Herod was angry. He told his soldiers, “Go to Bethlehem and kill every baby you nd in the town”. But the soldiers did not nd Jesus in Bethlehem. Joseph had also been warned by an angel in a dream about

what Herod was going to do. e an-gel had said, “Joseph, get up and take your family to Egypt. You will be safe there from Herod.” at very night, Joseph took Mary and Jesus and went to Egypt. ey stayed in Egypt un-til King Herod was dead. en they went back to Israel to live in Nazareth where Jesus grew up.

In Egypt, being a slave Joseph soon ended up in prison. One of the other

prisoners had worked closely with the king. One night, he had a dream

and he told Joseph about it. Joseph knew what it meant. “In the past, you

were the king’s special servant. Your dream means that you will be his

servant again very soon.”

ree days later, just as Joseph promised, the man was released and

went back to the palace to work for the king again.

Two years went by and Joseph remained in prison. At that time, the

king of Egypt had some very strange dreams and they worried him a lot.

One night the king dreamed he was standing beside the Nile River. Sud-

denly, he saw seven fat, healthy cows come out of the river grassing along

the bank. Next, seven ugly, skinny cows came out of the river and the

skinny cows ate the fat ones. Later he had another dream. He saw seven

ears of corn. ey were thick and full of grain, all growing on one stalk.

But another stalk had seven ears that were dried up and very thin. en

the thin ears ate the thick ones.

e king really wanted to nd

out the meaning of his dreams.

But then the servant remembered

Joseph he had met in prison.

Joseph was brought from prison

before the king. Joseph immedi-

ately understood the meaning of

the dreams and explained them

Genesis 37-47

15. From Prisoner to Leader in Egypt

for the king. “You have been dreaming about what will happen soon. e

meaning is this: First, Egypt will have seven good years with plenty of

food to eat. But then there will be seven very bad years where no food will

grow at all.”Joseph also suggested that the king

should build large storage buildings

and gather all the extra food in the

seven good years so he could still feed

everyone when the bad years arrived.

e king liked Joseph’s plan and put

him in charge of storing as much food

as possible in the good years. Joseph

was now a powerful leader in Egypt.

Jesus got into a boat and crossed the Sea of Galilee. Jesus said to the

disciples, “Come with Me, away from where people live, so we can

rest.” However, many people were looking for Jesus as He was coming

to their towns. Everywhere He went soon huge crowds of people were

following Jesus and the disciples. Many other people in the towns

along the way continued to join them. They brought those who were

sick, hoping that Jesus would heal them. Jesus welcomed all of them.

Jesus was filled with love for them, because they were like sheep with-

out a shepherd. He taught them about the Kingdom of God and He

healed everyone who needed to be healed.

Now it was getting to be late in the day. The disciples said to Je-

sus, “Send the people away so that they can go into the villages and

buy some food to eat. There is no food for them here.”

Jesus then said, “You give them something to eat.” Jesus asked

Philip, “Where should we buy food for all these people?” Jesus knew

what He would do but asked Philip this question to test him.

Philip answered, “Even if you worked for eight months, you

would not have enough money to give each man even a bite.”

Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother then said, “Here is a boy who has

five loaves of bread and two small fish, but what is that among so

many people?”

Jesus told them to have the people sit down on the green grass

in groups of 50 and 100. So the people sat down. There were about

5,000 men there, not counting women and children. Jesus took the

five loaves and the two fish. Looking up to heaven, He blessed it,

thanking God for it. Then Jesus broke it into pieces and gave it to the

disciples. They gave it to all the people. Everyone had as much to

eat as he wanted.

Then Jesus told the disciples, “Pick up the

bread and fish that are left over. None of it should

be wasted.” When they were finished, there were

twelve baskets full of pieces of bread and fish!

The people who saw Jesus do many kinds of mira-

cles were amazed and filled with joy. They were sure

Jesus was a man sent from God.

God said to Adam, “You listened to your wife and ate the fruit

that I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it.’ Now you will have to

work hard all the days of your life. Your face will always be wet from

sweat as you eat your bread.”

God made clothes out of animal skins to cover Adam and Eve.

God said, “Now man and his wife have become like one of Us,

knowing good and evil. We must not let them reach out and eat from

the Tree of Life so that they live forever in their sins.” He sent Adam

and Eve out of the Garden of Eden. Then He put a mighty Angel with

flaming swords flashing back and forth to guard the entrance to Eden

so that no one would eat from the Tree of Life. Now Adam and Eve

could no longer walk in the garden and talk to God, face to face.

Because of Adam and Eve’s disobedience or sin, trouble was brought into

the world: pain and suffering, thorns and thistles, sweat, and finally

death. The paradise in the garden with God was lost for Adam and Eve.

But this was not the end. God still loved His children, Adam and Eve. God

did not forget them and already had made a wonderful plan to get His

children back.

The Great Flood (Genesis 6–9)

This is the history of Noah, his three sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth

and their families. Noah was a righteous man and God considered

him blameless among the people of his time. It was known that Noah

walked with God. Many years had passed since Adam and Eve were

sent out of the Garden of Eden and the earth was now full of people.

The Walls of Jericho After the Israelites had been in a big desert for forty years, God decided it was time for them to enter Canaan, the Promised Land. Moses was now an old man and God had told him that he was not going to lead the people into Canaan. Instead God chose Joshua to become the new leader of the Israelites.

Moses told the people to remember everything God had commanded and done for them in the desert. Then he left and God led Moses up to the top of Mount Nebo. From there God could show Moses the land He was going to give to His people. Moses was now 120 years old, but he had not lost any of his strength. When Moses died, God Himself buried him on the mountain.

When the Israelites crossed the Jordan River they came to the big city of Jericho. To enter into Canaan they fi rst had to conquer this city. A high thick wall surrounded the city. But Joshua was not worried, because God had already told him how the city would be conquered.

Joshua now commanded his army to march around the city every day for the next six days. Then, on the seventh day, God told the priests leading the army around the city walls to blow their trumpets, and all the people shouted out loud at the same time. All at once, the walls of Jericho fell, and the Israelites easily captured the city.

Finally, after so many years in the desert, the Israelites were living in their own land, the Promised Land. The promise given so many years earlier to Abraham, the father of the Israelites, had now been fulfi lled by God.

How many children can you see around Jesus? What are they playing? And what do you see through the triangle?

Jesus loved children and always had time for them. But the disciples tried to keep them away from him because they thought Jesus was too busy. Jesus said, “Do not keep them away from me for children truly

belong to God”. Luke 18:15-17

My Little Activity Bible My Little Activity Bible is a great introduction to the Bible. Twenty best-loved Bible stories have been retold in short simple sentences for young children. My Little Activ-ity Bible includes 2 fun jigsaw puzzles which promote logical thinking and fine motor skills. The puzzles includes die cut shapes of a fish and a cross.

Polona Lovsin – Illustrator of My Little Activity Bible:

Polona was born in 1973, in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She says, “As a child I spent most of the time in small village on a farm with my grandmother and grandfather. I played with cats, chickens, and other farm animals. When I went to school, I become more of a city girl. I spend most of my time at my desk drawing. I became a mother in 1999 and now have 2 wonderful daughters.”

“The most important thing in my work process is using natu-ral light. My working desk is in front of a huge window, with a view over the roofs and a forest in distance. I don’t like working during the darkness of the night. If I have to, I’ll do some roughs or character studies.”

“Secondly, I consider the emotions which are the essence of my animal or children characters. They all have to be soft as if you would like to hug them.”

“Thirdly, I think about decorative elements. This allows me to achieve well considered colour combinations. When I work with books, I always remember that it is a flow of events and expressions. The method I employ to convey this is dynamic movie-like framing and varied spread composi-tion.”

The Creation (Genesis 1-2)Out of the deepest darkness, the sun, moon and stars were now shining. The

earth was now covered with all sorts of beautiful trees and colorful flowers. All sorts of flying, creeping, jumping, running and sleeping animals filled the

Garden of Eden.

The Bible contains many stories of shepherds and sheep. The most well-known image from the New Testament is Jesus proclaiming Himself the Good Shepherd. This is some-thing even a child can understand. The good and caring shepherd goes out and searches and searches for the little sheep that are lost. We are all, children and grownups alike, reminded that our Good Shepherd loves us so much that He will look for us if we stray away from Him.

In our new flap book, the little sheep has wan-dered away. The shepherd goes out to find it and bring it back again. In each of the many places the shepherd is searching, the child may lift open a flap to help the shepherd find the sheep. The book contains 10 different “search and find” scenes with wonderfully made flaps to open. There is a Biblical reference explaining what is found beneath each flap. As parents and children help the shepherd find the lost sheep, they will discover ways that the Good Shepherd cares for them.

Jonah got up and made the long journey to Nineveh. It was hundreds of miles away, but Jonah listened to what God said. Nineveh was a huge city. It took three days to walk from one end to the other. On the very first day, Jonah proclaimed, “In forty days, this city will be destroyed!”

The people of Nineveh listened to Jonah. They believed his message. In order to show that they were sorry for the evil they had done, they refused to eat any food. They put on rough clothing and rags. everyone did this, from the most important people to the servants.

The King of Nineveh heard Jonah’s message from God. He got up from his throne and took off his royal robes. He also put on rough clothing and rags.
