boys and girls cabins!
I had been talking about
drop bears in the weeks
leading to the camp.
Although most student’s
didn’t believe me; the tiny
element of doubt was
enough to keep them
guessing. They did come
across drop bears but they
were of the wooden cut
out variety stuck to trees.
Maybe next year we will
see some! ;-)
No one could ever
complain about the food!
All we seemed to do was
eat and the student’s were
always lining up for
seconds.
On the 11th-15th of
October, 5Y along with
the other two grade 5
classes boarded the bus to
Coonawarra Camp in East
Gippsland.
All student’s were
excited; although some
very nervous for what was
to come over the five
days.
We couldn’t have been
luckier with the weather as
the only rain we had was
on the Wednesday after
noon while we had
electives and the Friday
which was absolutely
miserable for our trip
home.
Every child had their
own highlight for the trip
and had many memories
they will share for the rest
of their schooling and
possibly lives.
As teacher’s we could
not have been prouder of
the efforts of our
student’s. They were
wonderful representatives
of the school, their
families and themselves.
When it came time for
duty groups we never had
to chase them. They were
punctual, responsible and
consistently polite in their
duty groups.
For a teacher, cabin
checks are always
entertaining! You often
wonder what you will get
or more importantly
where items are going to
be hidden! The care and
attention to rooms was
first class from both the

The activities at
Coonawarra are awesome
but too many of them are
about being high off the
ground for my liking!
Being afraid of heights is
not good at the best of
times but you cannot
expect the student’s to
have a go if you aren’t so
the student’s were
entertained with me taking
ages to step off the flying
fox, my scared laughs on
the giant swing and my
tree hugging on the high
ropes course.
This leads on to the
support that all student’s
gave each other. There
were lot’s of “you can do
its, nearly there and not
far now’s” extended to all
student’s. The support
and care between all
student’s was amazing so
all parent’s should be
proud!
I am proud of each and
every student for their
attitude, respect of each
other and hard work put
in at camp! If I am lucky
enough to take a group of
student’s on a camp next
year of the same quality,
then I will be one lucky
teacher!
Please take the time to
read 5Y’s Camp
Coonawarra newsletter.
They have worked very
hard to present this for
you and are proud of both
theirs and each others
work!
Cheers,

light of this Camp was Daryl being really super funny/hilarious. The high-light of all highlight of my week at Coonawarra camp.
We were in the mid-
dle of the concert
and Mrs Welti had to
do a job out side of
the stage A fellow
judge, Daryl decided
to be the host of the
show What surprised
me most is that he
found a pink ribbon
When the real Mrs
Welti came in he was
shocked saying that
Mrs Welti was a
imposter. He started
capping energetically
then of course all of
the grade 5
champers also tried
to do the action of
capping energetically
but at one stage
Daryl changed it to 5
claps.
The audience got
confused and Daryl/
Mrs Welti said „that
is not how you
do it and he clapped
5 times. It was
amazingly funny and
all the campers
laughed. He was
being the clown Mrs
Welti for 1 night one
of the acts wasn‟t
able to act as
Brendan hit his
head on the hook.
The concert had to
be finished, the next
night.
Brendan came back
so Brendan did his
act that night. Daryl
once again acted as
Mrs Welti with the
amazing claps and
the funny voice. It
sound like a high
pitch voice of Daryl.

we had some cake .
The night hike was
awesome.
My favorite highlight
for camp Conawarra
was the night hike
because we got see
all the stars on the
night hike. We also
got to carry our torch
lights and it was very
funny because
everyone in 5Y were
scaring Tash and
Maddy. The best
things on the night
hike was when the
teacher said there
were drop bears. But
there were no drop
bears.
Miss Young
explained that drop
bears are bears that
climb trees and drop
on you and she said if
you see one have to
do a commando roll.
Most of the girls in 5Y
got scared. In the end
there were no drop
bears. By the end we
were back at camp
Conawarra.
On the night hike
the teacher said that
you have to out for
animals. In the end
we only saw some
fake animals and we
saw some stars.
On the night hike we
walked heaps and
some people were
even falling behind or
getting lost on the
night hike . When we
stopped everybody

Raft Making
At raft making I was chosen to be captain for my team and Lachlan W was the other one. Daryl thought I was doing a very bad job being cap-tain. He made a bet with me that if my team loses he would throw me in a freezing cold shower at 2 in the morning and if I did win he wouldn’t (lucky he did what he said). When Daryl said your time is up he called me and Loch over to the shed. He made a deal that what ever team
loses would have to have the cold shower! He looked over at me and said get ready for that cold shower! By now all the teams had their gear on and were getting ready to put the rafts in the wa-ter. Daryl said go and my team sprinted out with the boat and Lochs team were still picking theirs up. When my team were coming back around Lachs team just got in the water. I couldn’t believe it! Our
boat at the back was sinking and all you could see of Jasper was his head. It was so funny! I was kicking and paddling at the same time. Caleb was paddling, Hannah and Nicola out were both paddling
I was so happy.

Yes I hit the board
we had were poles,
wood, ropes and
your knowledge to
build the raft. At
least we had Dana
because she had
already done it
before she did most
of the work. Even
though Dana did
most of the work we
all worked as a
team. The water
was freezing cold.
The only bad thing
about rafting was
the seaweed that get
tangled on your
legs. Mrs. Welti
was watching who
won in her canoe.
My favourite
highlight from camp
Coonawarra was on
the 12/10/2010
which was a Tuesday
It was raft making
day. You had to
build a raft and then
raft it to the balloon
and back .It was a
race. The trick was
to actually make it to
the balloon and back
without falling in or
the raft breaking.
This was actually
pretty hard.
It was girls against
boys. Of course my
team won. But the
raft broke on the
way back. We made
our raft and then
took it to the water,
but then it broke. So
we had to rebuild it.
We then had to
paddle it all the way
to the balloon and
back. When it broke
we got to swim a bit
and then collect
everything put it
away. We had to
wear life jackets and
helmets. That was
so if we fall in
which we did. All

went flying off the ground and fell and I came first. And that’s why I liked canoeing .
There was a race to the
other beach. We got to
the other side and half
way back to the finish
line. A current started
pushing us the wrong
way, while me and Frank
were pushing the
opposite way Caleb’s
canoe tipped over.
Then we started
tipping I decided to jump
out rather than wait to
fall out. Frank was still in
the canoe and then he
fell out, and the canoe
hit my head pushing me
underwater. After having
a gulp of the fish poo
infested, muddy, murky
water my foot got caught
in seaweed.
I reminded Frank about the man eating sea-weed and the we screamed at the top of our lungs. Frank aban-doned me and swam to shore because of the seaweed, and then he came back, then Emily (the staff member) Told us to bring the canoe back to shore so Frank and I pushed it back. We were having trouble flipping it over on the sand but we managed to do it. We started the amaz-ing race. Frank forgot to touch the magic wheel and came last. was my turn was

The funniest
thing about archery
was when me and

Miss Young how
to do archery.
Archery was my

because of Miss

My favorite
highlight from
Camp Coonawarra
was, Archery
because I was
worse the miss
Young at shooting
the arrow. It took
me 4 or 5 time to
work how to shoot
an arrow, and it
was funny but
embarrassing. Then
after a while I got
the hang of it. Miss
Young was laugh-
ing at me but it was
funny when Miss
Young missed t it

said “why are you
laughing at me
when you missed
it!”
I don’t know. It
took me a while to
figure it out. I can
tell you that it was
very hard for me
but I don’t know
for Miss Young.
After a minute or 2
Miss Young got

Emily. The person
that started off

Next we had toasted
marshmallows and I
had one

was burnt but it was

My favourite
highlight from Camp
Coonawarra was the
campfire. We had the
campfire on the last
night we were there.
We did the usual
campfire things like
singing and eating.
After that we were
singing. We sang lots
of songs like the
Michael Finnegan song
and lots of the
production songs. The
production songs we
sang were Toxic, Rich
Girl, Rock that Body
and I Believe. It was so
much fun! The
parents that came
were Jill, Graham,
Malcolm and Daryl and
also the teachers were
singing along to the
songs as well.
Then after that we
played a game called
Chinese Whispers. The
way you play the game
is to have a person
that starts and
whispers something to
the person next to
them. After the
whisper has gone all
the way around the
circle the last person
has to say the whisper

then everyone wins but

When I heard my
name called out we
went into the hospital
rooms and that is
where they told me to
lay down on the bed.
While I was laying
down on the bed Miss.
Young and the nurse
were talking to each
other deciding what to
do with my head. They
were thinking of put-
ting in stiches but they
used steri straps
instead. The nurse put
four straps on my head
and then it was time to
go back to camp.
When we got back
everyone was like ohh
Brendan’ s back.
Everyone wanted to
look at my head .
On the third day of
camp around 7:15 pm
I had a accident. Not
one of those wetting
myself accidents; like
a hurting myself
accident. The accident
happened when I went
to pick up my shoes. I
hit my head on one of
those bathroom towel
hooks. Luckily it
missed my eye by
exactly 4cm.. After I
hurt myself I ran
straight to Miss
Veticas and showed
her. She told Kealan to
quickly take me to the
first aid area and that
was where Miss Young
and Mrs. Welti were.
When they saw my
head they quickly sat
me down and got a
piece of gauze and put
it on my head with
pressure. While that
was happening, they
were asking me a lot of
questions like my age,
my name and my
address. After the
questions they called
the ambulance to
come to camp . When
he got to camp he put
his stuff down and had
a look at my head.
After he looked at my
head, he started to talk
to the teachers while I
was lying on the
ground. When they
finished talking, Miss.

It was half way through camp and my shot on the flying fox! I was harnessed up and ready to go. Lachlan was riding up the harness. Once it was up, I got clipped in. I ran and jumped off the board and I was flying over the lake.
Then all of a sudden I hit the end of the fox and came back where they grabbed the rope and got the ladder for me to
step on. Then they un-harnessed me. After that I to help with all the others, when they came down. When I was coming down there was heaps of excitement going through my head, about how awesome it was to accomplish it. After all that I was untangling the harness and clipping them on to the rope , so that Lachlan could ride them back up.

My highlight of camp
is Horse Riding! It was
fantastic fun! Once it

to go again and again!
Well at first I was
really scared about it
and I only wanted a
big horse but they told
me that I was to tall
for a small horse! I
have no idea it hap-
pened but I ended up
with the second big-
gest horse on the trail
ride in our group!
The trail ride was all
up hill and when it was
time to come back it
was all down hill and I
had a little trouble with
that! The route was
just a little bit like a
circle but not shape
of one. The ride did-
n’t take very long that
long for me, but as
you know time flies
when you are having
fun! Our ride was on
Thursday, the day
before we left

We had our ride on

Here comes Daryl
My favorite part of Camp Coonawarra was when it took Miss Young and me and Frank to stop Daryl who was on the flying fox.
Daryl is lets say a big-ger build and neither he or us knew how we were going to stop him.
For you to have a SAFE jump you have to jump off a little ledge and before you jump, Em puts some rope on your hands and asks you to drop it when you get to the lake. So even-
tually
Daryl crawled off the edge and he fly's down with the loudest scream
all laughed. Daryl went right passed us and then
Miss Young jumped up and hip and shouldered him! It must have been scary for Miss Young!
He kept on going so
decided to help Miss Young out! We were so brave.
It was funny and scary and I thought Frank and I were very brave! I cant wait until Grade 6 camp!
G’day!!!
STOP!
I loved the giant
swing because I have
never done it before
and I went on it all
the way to the top. It
was an adrenaline
rush. It was really
fun and funny
because Jai Pleban
was screaming “this is
CRAAZZZZY!!!!”
Everyone was
laughing.
I liked it when
they pull the rope to
make them swing
and you’re holding
the rope to pull them
up. It feels like recoil
and when Jack
pulled the rope to
make him swing
Malcolm (Jacks dad)
fell on his backside!
I was really scared
when I pulled the
rope but I wanted to
do it again! While I
was swinging I was
waving to Kane at
archery. I loved the
giant swing, espe-
cially when I pulled
the rope and started
to swing. It was hard
getting the harness
on but it was worth
it!

High Ropes Course My highlight from camp is
the high ropes course.
When we got to the high
ropes course, Em said we
didn’t have enough time to
do the low ropes so we
went straight onto the high
ropes. It looked really scary
at first but when you get in
the harness and hop on its
not so bad. After a while its
AWESOME!!
I was the second girl to do
it and it was really fun.
When I got on I found out
that it was really wobbly.
But that’s one of the things
I like about it, its challeng-
ing. When I got to the
ladder I got really shaky. I
wouldn’t let go, but then I
did. It was really fun,
everyone was cheering for
me. The scariest thing on
the high ropes was the sec-
ond last one. You had to
hold onto ropes to get
through it. I felt like I was
going to fall off, but I did-
n’t.
I don't think anyone in our
group needed a harness,
because no one fell off.
When I finished I hopped
out of the harness and
laughed at myself. I laughed
because every time we
would get to another station
we had to yell out PULL
UP CHECK!!! When I
finished I asked Em if I
could have another go but
this time I was going to run
across the wobbly ladder.
(that would have been fun!!)
When I got off Lachlan
was on the second last sta-
tion and he was really wor-
ried about this one, so we
all cheered him on with out
falling off.
We all did great.!

Oh what
awesome
people!
On the14/10/10,
I hijacked a canoe,
as fast as I could
because we were in
the middle of our
raft making session.
When we put our
nowhere good
enough raft into the
water, I knew that
our raft wasn’t
going to go 5 meters
across the water.
Guess what? I was
wrong it didn’t even
float:; It fell apart
straight away.
That’s when the fun
started, Kane drifted
into the middle of
the lake with the
poles off the raft. I
was laughing my
head off at him
because he was the
one who forced us
to put our raft in the
water. Karma is
what I have to say. I
was just going to
leave him and say
‘have fun’ but then I
saw Kealan and
Erin bringing their
canoe in to shore. I
ran to them to later
find out they just
came to shore to tip
the water out of the
canoe. That’s when
I just took it Kealan
swam out to get the
paddle during that
time I called Ryan,
which luckily had a
paddle. Kealan gave
me the paddle and off
went to later realise
that Kane had
already been rescued,
so it was now a
search and rescue
mission. Rescue what
you say. Rescue the
poles, the ropes and
the wood that were in
the middle of the
lake. It was up to me
and Ryan to save
those living and
those non-living.
First we went out to
get the poles we got
them and passed
them in. The wood
was heavier and
harder to drag and
pass to shore.
Luckily we’re strong
so we passed them in
fine. Then it was the
ropes turn. That was
easy and finished in
no time. Then we got
in trouble so we
brought the canoe
into shore and
praised ourselves for
doing such a great
job

from when we went

it was really funny.

was the funniest
camp I have ever

this is why .

It was hilarious.

It was so funny;
even though I was
one of the people
screaming .
OMG! Seaweed
gross! I think
everyone
complained and
hated it and
screamed. All I did
was scream, laugh
and say GROSS!
But at the same
time it was really
funny.
We also got to see
the latest band in
town. On the
concert night there
was a surprise act.
It was the teachers
and parents
singing and
dancing and they
also got a little bit
dressed up. They
sang Mamma Mia

Miss Young jumped up and hip and shouldered him! It must have been scary for Miss Young!
He kept on going
Frank and I decided to help Miss Young out! We were so brave.
It was funny and scary and I thought Frank and I were very brave! I cant wait until Grade 6 camp!
My favorite part of Camp Coonawarra was when it took Miss Young and me and Frank to stop Daryl who was on the flying fox.
Daryl is lets say a bigger build and neither he or us knew how we were going to stop him.
For you to have a SAFE jump you have to jump off a little ledge and be-fore you jump, Em
puts some rope on your hands and asks you to drop it when you get to the lake. So even-tually
Daryl crawled off the edge and he fly's down with the
ever heard. Then Malcolm said
laughed. Daryl went right passed us and then Miss Young

One of my
highlights at Camp
Coonawarra was
the Concert. There
were sixteen
performances. My
group was fifteenth
but we couldn’t do
it because one of
our main characters
wasn’t there
because he
injured .We did our
performance the
next night.
The group that
came first was a
dance. The group
called them selves
the DJ lovers. The
performance that
came third was a
top gear parody. It was
hilarious! The
performance that came
second wasa dance by
Sophie. The Concert
was a great night
including comedy,
dancing, singing and
lots lots more. Other
performances included
magic tricks, comedy
acts, jokes and
mimicking. The night
after I did my act
called “Party at my
house”. Our score was
sixteen. After our
comedy act there was a
new band that did two
dances. It was
hilarious! The songs
