The activities in this power point contain the following Sixth Grade SOL objectives:

Dear Students,This power point has three activities for you to complete;

they all have to do with technology and poetry. You will need to follow the directions below:

• Get a laptop out of the carts in the front of the room.• Sign your write your laptop number next to your name on the sign

out sheet that is located on top of the cart.• Log on to the laptop with your user name and password.• Click on internet explorer which will launch Princess Anne Middle

School’s homepage. • Look on the left hand side and clock on “Teacher Webpages.”• Scroll all the way down to find my wikispace link and click on it.• When it opens, you look for the link that says “Poetry and

Technology Power Point”• This will open the power point • Click on the “slideshow” tab and choose “from beginning”• Get busy while hopefully having a blast!!

Using Tagxedo

On the next slide you will see a screen shot of the home page for “Tagxedo.” On the next slide after that, you will see an example of a bird that was created on the Tagxedo website. Please follow the directions to the right of the bird to get you to the Tagxedo website, so you can create your own!

Place your cursor over the bird and click. When you do this you should see the Tagexdo website. Follow the directions to make your own. Save on your flash drive and print it out to turn in for a grade.

Writing Free Verse

Students, on slide #6 you will see a beautiful picture. Create a free verse poem about it. You must have at least 20 lines. You may arrange your lines and stanzas any way you wish. Then look at the print screen on the next slide for a website screen image that will help you get started on your free verse poem. Now, go to the next slide and click on the actual picture of the rainbow and it will take you to that print screen image. In the search box type “writing free verse. " Follow the three steps on how to get started writing your poem.

Please put your cursor on the picture and click. This will take you directly to a website that will help you get started on your Free Verse Poem.

Creating a Voki

For this activity you will be making-up a “rap” poem and then create a Voki character and you will then record your voice rapping your poem. The character you created will rap your poem in your own voice! If you are a bit confused that is okay; just click to the next slide and you will see a print screen of the Voki website. Please take some time to look at all of the features.
