RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE

4/14-PRESENT

Social Services Director-Good Samaritan Society-Simla, Colorado. Meeting the resident's psychosocial and spiritual needs by developing and implementing imaginative resident centered non-pharmacological interventions, thereby helping the team to reduce the need for psychotropic medications by approximately 50%. Careful gathering of information by the MDS, other assessments, and normal conversation to provide the information necessary to develop detailed and individualized care-plans focusing upon empowering the resident to see God's purpose for their life, which increases the resident's wellbeing without the use of medications. Job duties streamlined by implantation of MS Office and the shared Good-Sam storage system, which allow quick team retrieval of vital information for the resident's care and survey readiness, thereby providing me more 1:1 counseling and group therapy. Social Services received a deficiency free survey from the 2014 Colorado State Survey team. Duties include admissions and rights teaching, charting, scheduling medical appointments and transportation, and keeping abreast and addressing the resident's dental, audiological, optometric, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.

RESIDENT CHOICE PROGRAMS DEVELOPED AND IMPLEMENTED:

Researched and developed a cost effective and successful music and memory style program utilizing inexpensive MP 3 players filled with resident music genre choice. Resident who wish to take advantage of this program significantly reduced their need for PRN anti-anxiety medications and reduced behaviors

Researched and developed an inexpensive 'color therapy' program utilizing color pencils and adult coloring pages found in the public domain. The simple act of coloring pages activates pleasure centers in the left side of the brain. By taking advantage of this simple strategy, residents report feeling less anxious, sleeping better, requiring less PRN anti-anxiety medications, and have developed relationships with each other thereby reducing transitional depression as they work through this major life change.

Able to work through various channels to build a care plan focusing on independence for a 69-year-old resident who was completely dependent upon staff for simple transportation needs. I diligently worked to change the hearts and minds of the facility staff about the implementation of an electric wheelchair for this resident; at first I met great resistance about the idea this resident having one of these devices available for her use because of her 'bad attitude'. I contacted state, federal, and charitable resources, only to discover that the resident, whose personal funds were depleted by medical bills, was unable to qualify for state or charitable assistance for this important device. By networking a family member of another residents donated an electric wheelchair that they 'no longer wanted at their house'. Within three days, the resident learned to operate her wheelchair and her newfound independence started a ripple effect within her family. Her husband now visits daily and they are working on their marriage; the resident's grandchildren and great-grandchildren visit regularly; the family member who donated the wheelchair have become close friends, expanding the wellbeing of all involved
