Ourself-nominatedcommi2eeofmemberswasgivenashort8melinetoachieveagreatoutcome…thenextfiveyearsstrategicplan.Wewereaskedtodigdeepthroughrobustandcollabora8veinterac8ons,andcreateadocumentwhichadvisesthecluboverthenextfewseasons.Itmadesensetoaskeachfunc8ontoownthereviewoftheiropera8ngprocedures,andrealisetheirstrengthsandweaknesses.Thecommi2eefeltthatthisiswherethereopportunitylies.Inordertorunoutcomebasedmee8ngs,weagreedtoacharterofagreementsattheoutset.Thisgaveusfocus,theoneclubapproach,inclusivityandrespectwithinthegroup.Agreatstarttoembeddingourpurposeandvaluesatawiderlevel.
Itwasclearthattherewerealotofthingswedowell,butthechallengeslayinpriori8singwhatwasn'tworkingwellenough.Thisdocumentprovidesthestar8ngpointforfurtherdiscussionandmanyac8onpointstoachieveintheshortandlongerterm.WeaskthatthenewExecu8vefor2019/20ownanddrivethisstrategicplan.
TotheCommi2ee,Iwanttoextendmywarmestthanksforyourgreatsupportandcommitment.Overfourshortmee8ngstherewerecountlesshoursspentonboththoughtandac8on,tocreatethedocumentwepresenttotheExecu8veandourclub.

INTRODUCTION: CoogeeSurfLifeSavingClub(CSLSC)isavolunteerorganisa8onandemergencyservicesproviderthathasbeendeliveringlifesavingservicestothecommunityforover110years.Withamembershipofmorethan2,300ac8vemembersandnippers,itisrecognisedasacommunityicon.
ItisfromthisbasethatCSLSChasanexci8ngfuture.Thisdocumentpresentsa5-yearplan,toactasaguideforexis8ngandfuturemembers,forthe2019-2024lifesavingseasons,andaddressestheareasthattheclubwillfocusonduringthisperiod.
Theplanhasbeendevelopedincollabora8onwiththemembers,withsponsorshipbytheoutgoingPresident,Ma2Fernandez,Execu8veCommi2ee,Governors,ManagementCommi2eeandtheclub’smembers.
Theneedfora5-yearstrategicplanwasiden8fiedataclubplanningdayassistedbyanexternalfacilitatoranda2endedbyacrosssec8onofourmembership.Asmallsub-commi2eewasthenformedand,throughrobustandconstruc8vediscussionsover4weeks,adocumentaddressingthefollowingareaswasprepared:

- Clarity of enhanced SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), across all areas of the Club

Thisdocumentisaboutevolu8on,innova8on,inclusivity,collabora8onandgrowth.BuildingonCSLSC’shistoryandheritage,itsetsoutthepriori8esforthecluboverthenextfiveyears.Itistheinten8onoftheclubexecu8veandthiscommi2ee,thatthedeliveryofthisstrategicplanwillenhancethememberexperienceintheshortterm,andensurealong,sustainableandthrivingfuturefortheclub.
Whiletheplanhasbeendevelopedatapointin8me,itisnotintendedtoconstrainorlimitinanywaytheaspira8onsorachievementsoftheclub.Ifweachieveeverythingwe’vesetouttoachieve,wewillaskourselves“whatdoweneedtodonext?”.
CSLSCperformsacri8calfunc8oninsuppor8ngitsmemberstoeducatethecommunityonwatersafetyandul8mately,savelivesinthewater,bothwithinandbeyondtheredandyellowflags.Wealsoallowourselvestohavefunandenjoyacollabora8vecommunityspirit.
ItisthroughthislensthattheCommi2eerecommendsthateachfunc8on(Lifesaving,Minnows,SurfSportsetal)carriesoutaSWOTanalysistoiden8fyspecificareasofimprovementtopriori8se,namelyanimmediatereviewofStandardOpera8ngProcedures(SOPs).Itisalsoadvisedthatthisiscompletedwithinthe2019/20lifesavingseasonwithchangestobeimplementedwithinthe2020/21season.Itthenadvisesanannualreviewforbestprac8ce.
TheCommi2eerecognisesandisproudoftheClub’sheritageanduniquehistory.
ThisStrategicPlanaimstoenhancethisgreatculture.
TheCommi2eehasalsoiden8fiedwhatthefuturecanlooklikeanditacceptsthatthesolu8onsandrecommenda8onsarefortoday.Itisimportanttokeepinmindthatmanyfactorswillkeepthisplanagileincludingandnotlimitedto;

CoogeeSurfLifeSavingClubcon8nuallyreviewsitscapabili8esinthepatrollingenvironmentthroughaudits,trainingscenariosandengagementofitsPatrolCaptains,ViceCaptainsandmembers.Weareproudofourlifesavingrecord.Allourlifesavingequipmentisunder5yearsoldandregularlyservicedand/ormaintained.

Our members are well-trained
IRBandotherhigherawardsarea2rac8veforgainingandretainingmembers.Webenefitfromalargenumberofqualifiedtrainershoweverweonenstruggletofindtrainerstorunthecoursesthatourmembersdemand.
Ourpatrollingmembersarehighinnumbersandwellqualifiedacrossvariousaspectsoflifesaving.Fromacommunityperspec8veourpatrollingmembersarerou8nelyrequestedtosupportGarieBeachpatrolsandweareabletosendproficient,skilledlifesaversincludingjuniormemberstoexperienceadifferentbeachenvironment.
Areasforimprovement:- Membersneedtobeprovidedwithinforma8onaboutawardsthatareavailabletothem,andhowtheygetaccesstothetrainingthey

Our Patrols are well-attended
Challengesexistaroundengagementonthebeachacrossthepatrollingseasonensuringourvolunteers’8meiswellspentanduseful.Patrolsmaybeoversubscribedat8mes.Ourjuniorpatrollingmembersrequiremorea2en8onandac8vi8estoensuretheirreten8on.
Wehaveagrowingneedtounderstandwhoourmembershipistoensurewearecurrentinourthinkingandawareness.Weaspiretobeatrulyinclusive,diverseclub,andhavedonewellinsomeareas,butwanttodomore.Ourdatashowsthat50%ofourmembershipiden8fyasfemale.
Areasforimprovement:
- Informa8onaboutthelevelofdiversityintheclubisneeded,aswellasstrategiestoimprovethediversity.Itisrecommendedthatsurveyshouldbedevelopedimminently.
