Source of Gifts Areas Your Gift Supported From clean floors to warm meals, every detail is critical during a hospital stay. That’s the case at Mercy Hospital Berryville, where a series of equipment upgrades has satisfaction scores soaring.

“Our old floor scrubber was wearing down and it was nearly impossible to find replacement parts,” said Curtis Shaw, Mercy director of plant operations and environmental services. The floors were clean, but at a cost: “It was so noisy and bothersome to patients!”

In 2016, Mercy Health Foundation Berryville invested $125,000 in hospital equipment. A new scrubber was top of the list. “In the weeks since we started using the new scrubber,

Mercy Health Foundation Berryville upgrades to hospital equipment, such as the quiet floor cleaner and the high-tech plate heater have increased patient satisfaction.

Charity Ball Sets New RecordMercy Hospital Berryville’s 13th annual Black and White Charity Ball took place February 20th at Inn of the Ozarks in Eureka Springs. The fun-filled gala dinner and auction (with live entertainment by Red Ambition) set a new record for attendance with 221 participants and raised nearly $58,000, the second-highest total in its history!

The funds went to purchase new equipment used in colonoscopies. Originally planning to purchase one colonoscope, thanks to the generosity of the crowd, Mercy Health Foundation Berryville was able to purchase two colonoscopes and a gastrovideoscope. This last device is used for endoscopies and helps pinpoint abnormalities in a patient’s digestive tract.

“It will be a new, clearer set of eyes that will provide better imaging, benefitting patients in a major way,” said Cody Qualls, executive director of Mercy Health Foundation Berryville. “And we owe it all to our generous gala attendees.”

A small portion of the charity ball funds will help Mercy buy new equipment for its cardiac rehab department as well. “It’s another example of how we’re absolutely committed to our local community,” said Doug Stroemel, Mercy Hospital Berryville administrator. “It can be challenging year after year to fund certain projects when there are limited dollars in the budget. We depend on our incredible donors to help us get these vital services to those who need them.”

Patients Pleased with Upgrades

The fun-filled annual event had the highest attendance ever and raised nearly $58,000 for new hospital scopes.
