Conveyor systems 9

Conveyor systemsChain widths from 44 mm to 295 mm

FlexLink standard conveyorsTogether, the FlexLink standard conveyor product lines cover a wide range of applications. Multiflexing conveyor systems XS, XL, XM, XH, XK, and XB use plastic chains in many configurations. The chain design permits hori-zontal as well as vertical change of direction. Chain widths range from 44 mm up to 295 mm, for product widths up to 400 mm. Each system consists of a wide range of modular components which can be fitted using simple hand tools.

Conveyor structures built from aluminium beams with standardized T-slots simplify attachment of components and accessories.

Pallet handling productsCatalogue section Pallet handling components (XL/XM/XK) contains special products for pallet handling, includ-ing pallets, pallet locating stations, pallet stop cylinders and pallet transfer stations. The systems are based on conveyor components from the standard conveyor line.

The XK pallet handling system also includes divert/merge devices for easy transfer of pallets between con-veyors.

Guide rail componentsCatalogue section Guide rail components deals with var-ious types of guide rails and guide rail support compo-nents. Those products are used with several of the FlexLink conveyor systems. A number of pre-designed guide rail structures are shown as examples.

Conveyor support componentsThe FlexLink conveyors are held in place by a well bal-anced range of support components, with beam support brackets, support beams, feet, etc.

A number of pre-designed support structures are shown as examples.

Series X stainless steel conveyor systemsXL, XM and XH conveyors Series X are stainless steel designs adapted to the requirements of the food process-ing, pharmaceutical and hygiene industries. Standard FlexLink plastic chains are used.

NEW! Modular conveyor system EMEM modular system has a compact design that is espe-cially well suited for light applications in the packaging industry. The modular concept includes four different modules, which allows simplified engineering and order-ing as well as reduced assembly time.

Modular pallet conveyor system XTThe modular twin-track pallet conveyor system XT is well suited for manual and automatic assembly and test sys-tems in the automotive and electrical/electronics indus-tries. It can handle square and rectangular pallets from 240 mm × 240 mm up to 640 mm × 640 mm.

Examples of application areas

Small ball bearings, perfume bottles, pharmaceutical bottles, sintered metal com-ponents

Conveyor system XL (chain width 63 mm)

Features

Suitable for a wide range of applications. Preferable in high speed applications. Includes components for pallet handling and vertical wedge conveyors

Examples of application areas

Tissue paper, gear wheels, aerosol cans, medium size ball bearings, piston parts, yoghurt, fuel injectors, dry batteries, plastic bottles, tape cassettes, matches, cheese boxes, coffee and tea packages

Conveyor system XM (chain width 83 mm)

Features

Suitable for a wide range of applications. Higher capacity than XS and XL. Includes components for pallet handling and vertical wedge conveyors

Examples of application areas

Ball valves, water meters, disk drives, pie packages, film cartridges, plastic bottles, beverage cans, products on pallets, paint cans, socks

Conveyor system XH (chain width 103 mm)

Features

Suitable for larger items, especially if point of balance is somewhat offcenter. Higher capacity than XS and XL

Examples of application areas

Large ball bearings, turbo rotors, safety belt brackets, electric motors, shock absorbers, video cassettes, steering arm components, boxes

Conveyor system XK (chain width 102 mm)

Features

Suitable for larger items, especially if point of balance is somewhat offcenter. Higher capacity than other types. Includes components for pallet handling

Conveyor data summary .

*Applies to vertical wedge conveyor.

Guide to the data summary

Item width

The maximum width of the goods conveyed depends on the shape of the goods and on the location of the centre of gravity.

Maximum weight (horizontal transport)

In a horizontal conveyor, the maximum weight of the indi-vidual products conveyed is limited mainly by the desire to keep wear of the slide rails at an acceptable level.

Maximum weight (vertical transport)

In a conveyor with cleated links for vertical transport, the maximum weight of the individual products is limited by the strength of the cleats and the life of the slide rails.

Maximum weight on conveyor

The total maximum weight is mainly limited by the drive unit capacity and by the tensile strength of the chain.

Conveyor length/speed range

The maximum conveyor length and speed depends on the total load and on the drive unit capacity.

Series X conveyors

The specifications in the data summary are valid for standard FlexLink conveyors as well as for Series X con-veyors.

Conveyor comparison chart

Simplified end views of FlexLink conveyor beams, drawn to the same relative scale. Numeric values are widths in mm.

26 Structural systems

Structural systemsIntroduction

Standard componentsFlexLink structural systems XC and XF are well balanced ranges of standard components which can be combined to form almost any structure. The structural systems are used within a wide range of applications.

Structural system XC offers sturdy components with high load capacity for both static and linear motion sys-tems. It also offers pneumatic components and easy interfacing to the FlexLink conveyor and linear drive unit product lines.

Structural system XF consists of light, yet sturdy com-ponents, with emphasis on enclosure applications.

The systems are both very flexible and permits quick and easy changes and adjustments at any time. Attrac-tive styling and reusability make them equally suitable for prototype and temporary designs as well as production quantities.

Designing and building a structure is simple and straightforward, and the resulting design retains the flex-ibility typical of all products from FlexLink Systems.

XC – heavier frameworks and machine standsFlexLink structural system XC is based on the module 44 mm and offers sturdy components which provide high load capacity for both static and linear motion systems. It is used within a wide range of applications, from frame-works, work benches and enclosures to special machin-ery, pick and place units and gantry robots.

Structural system XC also serves as the key to all other FlexLink standard systems.

XF – compact and light enclosure applicationsThe FlexLink XF system is based on the module 30 mm. It consists of a range of standard components, with emphasis on enclosure applications.

32 Linear drive units

Linear drive unitsIntroduction

One or multiple axesThe linear drive units are designed to provide a flexible, reusable and modular platform for accurate movement in one or multiple axes.

Basically, a linear drive unit consists of an extruded aluminium beam with an internal drive mechanism that is mechanically coupled to one or more external saddles. The motive power for the drive mechanism is supplied by an external motor.

The beam offers optimum strength against bending and torsion while effectively protecting the drive mecha-nism. Saddle guides provide for a smooth saddle motion and a very low friction.

Linear drive units are available in several sizes and with different types of drive mechanisms (screw or belt) and saddle guides, thus offering the users a full selection of features to suit the application at hand.

Modular designLike all FlexLink products, the linear drive units are mod-ular in concept. A few standardized components can be integrated and combined into a complete system. A cus-

tomer-specific function is achieved with short lead time, both in engineering and assembly, and the flexibility for making future changes is always present.

Thanks to the materials used in FlexLink products, there are very few limitations. Features such as chemical resistance, non-corrosiveness, and design for industrial operation have been built into the product from the initial development.

ApplicationsApplication areas where you will find the linear drive units useful are, for example:

• Loading and unloading of parts to and from machines, conveyor lines, workstations, inspection stations, etc.

• Pick-and place applications

• Palletizing of parts for packaging

• Integrated into machine devices for internal handling of parts and components

• Scanning equipment

• Printing equipment
