National President’s Message

Hello Brothers and Sisters

Beta Eta lost a great friend, brother, and musician. Brother John Fields passed away from a heart attack as he was hunting mush-rooms. Brother John has been in bands for over 30 years and was a great musician! He will be sadly missed. Rock on in heaven brother!!

As we get through this pandemic, I would like to thank Beta Eta and all Phi Delts as I make my last month of my journey through the National Officer chairs. You are all my PDK family and always will be!

I talked with Butch Rhonemus Tuesday night and the by Phi Delta Kappa Chapter Chase will be cancelled this year. There is not enough time to get it in before National Convention.

National Convention will be in Winchester this year. We’ve made a lot of improvements to the Chapter House and would like everybody to see it. Please make reservation and get your Registration Forms in as soon as possible. There is also forms to order convention shirts and magazine articles on the National Website. phideltakappa.org

Finally, I would like to thank all Beta Eta’s men and women that put time, sweat, and hard work to make our Chapter House look great!! We are continuing to work and hopefully everything will get done by the time you read this article. It is a great place to be!!

Hello to all my fellow Brothers and Sweethearts.

In this difficult time that we have all experienced, I hope each of you and your families are doing well. It has been a struggle for all of us and hopefully it will end soon.

As I am writing this article, the State of Indiana is starting to open things up a little bit and hopefully by July 4, everything will be open. I hope during these times that you have been able to reach out to your fellow Brothers and Sweethearts and check on them and their health and needs.

With the Convention coming up in July, which I am very con-fident that it will go on, I hope that you and your Chapter have been communicating to make sure you have your delegates in line, ads and shirts ordered and hotel accommodations made.

With the technology nowadays we can still keep in contact with each other and their Chapters. I had the Spring SEC meeting with my fellow National Officers via Zoom, plus we have communicated by text and email. You can still call any-one and talk to them the old fashion way. Let’s all make sure that we make this a great Convention and do what Phi Delts’ do best. Bring fellowship among men!

I will be running for the office of National President and I hope that I have your support. I will be open to any and all sugges-tions you may have. It has been a pleasure to have been your Vice-President and to be following the leadership of National President Todd Gullett and the entire SEC group. Also, thanks to the Board of Directors and Jim Byrds’ leadership.

I would encourage all the Chapters to make sure they get their nominee in for Chapter President of the Year to me. As always, your chance to buy more tickets or any tickets is closing fast for the 20/20 drawings every week. The big ones will be at the Convention. A chance for $100, $300 and $599! Hello to all Phi Delta Kappa brothers and sweethearts

Hope everyone is dong well considering the circumstances. Here at home my wife and I are adjusting to our new sched-ules. Julie is currently working from home and I am working every third week at Ball State. We are blessed to still be able to work while a lot of people have been laid off or furloughed.

I wanted to take this moment to wish all the PDK sweethearts belated Happy Mother’s Day (sorry I forgot to put it in last month’s newsletter). I really appreciate all the women in our fraternity for what you do for us at the chapter houses and for us at home. Without you we would be lost!!!

Beta Eta is going forward with our plans for convention in July. Everyone at Beta Eta is looking forward to hosting and getting to see our brothers and sweethearts. Our renovations have continued and the chapter house it looking fresh and re-newed. I want to thank everyone who has been a part of our renovations at Beta Eta, you rock. If you haven’t yet sent in your reservations please do so today.

In closing I want to give a shout out to all of the essential workers who have been there for us during the pandemic.

Hello from Mississippi Alpha, I hope this article finds all my Brothers and Sweet-hearts doing well and in good health. I am writing this article at the end of April, so I hope when you read this, this coronavirus Cov-id-19 will be behind us and things will be getting back to normal. July is only a month away and it is time once again for our 114th National Convention. Pam and I are so looking forward to it. Beta Eta Winchester will be hosting it and I am sure it will be, as always, full of enjoyment, brotherhood, and good food. I am asking for your support as I make my way through the chairs. This year, I am running for National Master of Ceremonies. Once again, thank you for your support. I know this article is short, but not a whole lot to write about when we are under a stay-at-home or-der. Remember that our 20/20 drawings are now in full swing. See any National Officer to purchase your tickets. They will be happy to assist you. You cannot win if you do not play. I will close for now, but remember to be safe. Hello Fraternal Family,

“In early June the world of leaf and blade and flowers explodes, and every sunset is different.” ― John Steinbeck, The Winter of Our Dis-content.

I hope and pray that everyone is staying safe and doing well. I can report I don’t know anyone that has contracted covid-19, and I am extremally thankful for that. Here is a list of fun facts about June.

• June is the month with the longest daylight hours of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. • June’s birthstone is the pearl, the Moonstone and the Alexandrite. • The June birth flower is the Rose (Rosa) and the Hon-eysuckle (Lonicera). • In 2009 June was the 662 most popular name for girls in the USA. • Anglo-Saxons gave the June the name Sera monath (Dry month) • June is derived from either Juno goddess of marriage or from iumiores (young people) • In both common and leap years, no other month begins on the same day of the week as June. • June is international men’s month. • June has the shortest daylight hours of the year in the Southern Hemisphere.

I know everyone in the fraternity is struggling right now. To my knowledge all chapter houses are closed, and most of us are at home under curfew or shutdown orders. We can still help our chapters out during this time. Have a small group (10 or less) help clean and disinfect the chapter house. Do any maintenance that needs to be done, now is a good time for that. If allowed, do outside cooking and sell to plates to help offset some of the costs of your chapter house not able to be open for business.

Just a friendly reminder that 20/20 tickets are on sale, reach out to one of your National Officers for any question or details. You can’t win if you don’t play!

I am looking forward to these next few months ahead of us. I can not wait to be able to see each and every one of you again. I will keep all of you in my prayers.

Vonda and I would like to wish my father and all of you fathers a Happy Father’s Day’

As I write this, things are still a little crazy with all the do’s and don’ts concerning the virus but there are certain businesses that are being allowed to open so maybe by the time you are reading this we will have our chapters open and doing business.

June 20th is the official first day of Summer I don’t know about everyone else but I am ready for some sunny and brighter days.

I don’t have much to report on since the chapters have been idle but if your chapter has things planned once we get the ok to start back up be sure to get the word out. The National Convention is still set for July 15th thru the 18th so be sure to get your magazine advertising and shirt orders turned in and your registrations filled out and submitted. The forms are on the PDK website.

On a sadder note Beta Eta member John Fields passed away at the end of April. Vonda and I would like to offer our condolences to Sarah and the family. John will be greatly missed. Rock on brother. The 20/20 drawings are taking place now so if you don’t have tickets be sure to get them from any National Officer.
