What is a TrawlThe word comes from French Trawling is Troler and Trailing in English, which had a

common sense that is PULL. Of fishing in West Java are more commonly referred to as

greedy trawling catch all types and sizes of fish so that the negative impact on our

environment so that the government issued Presidential Decree. No.39 of 1980 which

contains the prohibition of trawling operations in Indonesia and only allowed for vessels

operated researchers. Trawling the origin is not known with certainty but this tool has long

operated in Europe and is widely used in coastal areas and beaches tepas (Figure 4.4).

Trawling form continues to evolve with technological developments especially after

Trawl Methode

Trawling is a fishing method in a way blindly. Usually using some boats / ships with a

a way of breaking anything. Trawlers can damage coral reefs, because it is usually used in

base (substrate) which software to capture the shrimp. Trawler banned in Indonesia because

of netting / trawling can damage expanse of sea and catch non-target organisms fishing (by-

catch). Nevertheless, although the fishing is now with trawl rare tiger, this activity is still

found, especially in border areas.

However this gear provide a remarkable bad influence on marine resources particularly coral

reefs, because of its ability to dredge the fishery resources. For example, trawling with the

new model, which operated in the Lembeh Strait in 1996 to 1997 for 11 months. These

trawlers use nets that trap-very large and catch fish Pari 1.400 (Manta), 750 Marlin, 550

environment. And in fact in the long run will harm the economic interests of the nation as

well. Because the use of this trawling, then many small fish that come off netted.

Consequently at a certain time, the fish will run out because they do not have time to

regenerate naturally. Some users of this trawling is the foreign fishermen. Make them no

problem, because if in Indonesian waters were empty of fish, can be moved to other waters.Live our fishermen who bite the fingers.

RecommendationIn some countries the use of trawling or trawling has been banned. Indonesia was also

already banned the use of trawling since 1980, through Presidential Decree 39/1980. Despite

the ban, but the reality on the ground, there are still modern fishing boats which

surreptitiously uses this trawling. Well, according to the recommendations by bappenas,

rather than forbidden but in reality there are still fishermen who use trawling, it should be

allowed only. Bappenas researching fishing there are 6 areas that are still using trawling,

although forbidden, namely Nunukan, Tegal, Padang, Chart Siapi-fire, Pekalongan, and

Cilacap. Recommendations Bappenas is the basis for the Ministry of Maritime Affairs to

allow the use of trawling. Now being sought to repeal or revise the above Presidential Decree

39/1980.

SolutionTrawl usually use in the ocean. It cant use in the river. It can use in the ocean where

have the deep one. To use trawl, it must have some condition. One of them is in the bottom of

fishing ground consist of mud or the mix of mud and sand. Another one is the flow velocity

in the mid water must under 3 knot. And the last is the resources must run over. Greater

control over their government about the use of trawling in fishing ground especially certain

areas of eastern Indonesia. Although banned but still applied the use of trawling, trawling

should be used in targeted areas such as areas with much shrimp

the use of trawling causes many small fish that come off netted. Consequently at a

certain time, the fish will be depleted due to natural regeneration could not.
