John 18:1-11

I. Jesus is in control

A. He is in control over the PLACES

(Joh 18:1-3) When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the

which he entered, and his disciples. And Judas also, which betrayed him,

knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.

Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief

priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and

weapons.

1.Why would he leave the comfort of the upper

room?

(Luk 21:37) And in the day time he was teaching in the

temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of

Olives.

(Mat 21:8-10) And a very great multitude spread their garments

in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and

strawed them in the way. And the multitudes that went before, and that followed,

cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord;

Hosanna in the highest. And when he was come into

Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?

2. How many people are coming to get him?

“A band of men” : A Roman military cohort; also a squad of 600 or 6 centurion (1/10 of a

Legion)

B. He is in control over the PEOPLE

(Joh 18:4-7) Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and

said unto them, Whom seek ye? They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And

Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. As soon then as he had

said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.

Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of

Nazareth.

C. He is in control over the PUPILS

(Joh 18:8-10) Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let

these go their way: That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest

me have I lost none. Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's

name was Malchus.

control?

(2Co 12:8-10) For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he

said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my

strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore

will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of

Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in

necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I

strong.

(Pro 3:5) Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto

thine own understanding.

(Pro 3:6) In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall

direct thy paths.

D. He is in control over

the PROBLEMS

(Joh 18:10) Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut

off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.

(Joh 18:11) Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father

hath given me, shall I not drink it?

(Luk 22:50) And one of them smote the servant of the high

priest, and cut off his right ear.

(Luk 22:51) And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his

ear, and healed him.

I am under control only when I become…

(Php 1:6) Being confident of this very thing, that he which

hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the

day of Jesus Christ:
