controlled activities
TRANSCRIPT
With regards to conversational competence, controlled activities allow students to develop confidence as well as the ability to participate in and maintain simple, commonly encountered conversations.
There are a variety of ways that teachers can give students the opportunity to use English language in a safe and undemanding environment. To promote such conversational activities, the teacher can make use of all kinds of resources - flashcards, study boards, multimedia, information strips, as well as pictures/prompts.
Directions:
Rotate through the series of learning centers that have been set-up. With a classmate, do the controlled activity and consider the following: appropriate level (beginner, elementary, elementary and above, intermediate, advanced, any); appropriate time needed to do the activity; aim/purpose of the activity; and how it can be enhanced/modified.
