Valley Control Panels & Quick Tips for Ordering

Reasons to upgrade or Convert • Outdated controls cause problems. A panel upgrade or conversion can take care of many nuisance service calls for the customer.

• Bring new Valley technology to all of your customer’s machines

• Extend the life of your customer’s machines

• Orphaned machines need parts – this makes it easy

• Makes servicing competitive machines much easier

Every Valley control panel includes NEMA 3R enclosures, transient and induced voltage protection (only on TouchPro, Select2 and Pro2 series), heavy duty disconnect and a lockable inner door (lockable inner door not available for Classic Panel) to help guarantee reliability, safe usage and a long lifespan. Valley manuals contain all necessary safety measures and all components are clearly labeled.

Consider upgrading Valley machines to new control technology or converting those competitive machines. There is a great opportunity for replacing older control systems with one of the Valley control panel choices.

Converting Control Panels on Non-Valley Machines

Reasons to upgrade or Convert:• Outdated controls cause problems. A panel upgrade or conversion can take care of many nuisance

service calls for the customer.

• Bring new Valley technology to all of your customer’s machines

• Extend the life of your customer’s machines

• Orphaned machines need parts

• Makes servicing competitive machines much easier

• A minimum investment for a maximum return in reliability

• A new control panel coupled with new tower box controls gives the customer a completely updated control system for maximum renewed reliability

STEP 1 Select a control panel. Refer to “Valley Control Panels” in this section of the catalogue and choose one of the following control panels and any other options required:

TouchPro Pro2 Select2 ClassicPlus Classic

If you are installing a ClassicPlus or Classic panel, go to Step 2 .

If you are installing a TouchPro, Pro2 or Select2 Series panel, go to Step 3 .

Converting Control Panels on Non-Valley Machines

STEP 2 Select a new collector ring for ClassicPlus or Classic control panels (if required):

Examine the existing collector ring on the non-Valley machine. It will either beanexternalcollectorring(whichmeansmountedontopofthepivotelbow)orthe“Zimmatic®”stylethatisanintegralpartoftheelbowasillustratedinthe photo. If the collector ring is in good shape, the existing one can be used. If the external collector ring needs replacing, select a collector ring choice fromthefollowingtable.(refertotheelectricalsectionformorecollectorringoptionsanddetails)

STEP 3 Choose the desired method for field positioning.

Valley offers two methods for positioning with touchpro, pro2, and select2 panels.

GPS positioning was introduced in 2008 and has proven to be an accuratealternative to resolverpositioning. Using thewaas (wideareaaugmentationsystem)enabledGarmin receiver, thepositioningpackageprovidesaccuracyof +/- 10 feet (3 meters) with most installations at greater accuracy. Whenconverting a non-valley control panel, this is an excellent way to lower installation costsandenhancecontrolcapabilities.Refertopages2-3through2-5inthissectionforthesepackagesandproceedtostep5.

Converting Control Panels on Non-Valley Machines

STEP 4 Selecting resolver mounting components for TouchPro, Select2 or Pro2 control panels. Determine which of the following 3 situations apply:

Situation 1

Pivots WITH an external collector ring (those installed on top of the pivot elbow like a Valley).

Select2andPro2controlpanelsrequiretheinstallationoftheresolver.Aresolvermust be installed in an external collector ring. If the non-Valley machine has an external collector ring, examine the collector ring to ensure that the resolver can beinstalled.Hereare2pointstokeepinmind:

Resolver position sensor must be installed in the external collector ring . If in doubt . order a new collector ring .

If the collector ring is an Aeromotive brand and in good working condition, it will most likely allow for the resolver installation . however you will need to order the items in the following table:

use the following information to help you determine what version of Pro hardware you currently have in the field:

Pro ver . 4P 1992 - Two boards – one stacked on the other - Wide 50 pin and 26 pin parallel cables to relay board - series 6000

Pro ver . 4S 1994 - Two boards – one stacked on the other - 26 pin and 20 pin cables to relay board-series8000-Oct1994untilJan1995

Pro ver . 5, 6 and 7 - 1995 thru summer 2002 - Large single board - uses EPROM - series 8000

NOTE: If you encounter a wide 50 pin parallel cable from the module at right to the relay board, this would be a ver 5, 6, or 7 . These were not shipped on new machines but were used as service parts for replacing ver 4P modules .
