1. Introduction Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the mark of a true professional. This new on‐line system has been created by the IFP to help you and all IFP members to record your CPD activities effectively, saving you valuable time compared to traditional paper or spreadsheet based methods. You can view details of organised events, workshops, conferences, meetings etc and decide which associated activities you wish to undertake. This makes it the ideal way to search for appropriate training opportunities from a large range of providers which will meet your needs. You can also log your personal activities alongside structured learning, so that all your activity is stored in one place via the CPD Diary. Where appropriate, members can work with their supervisors to create a programme that works for them individually as well as meeting the needs of the firm overall. The IFP will be the CPD System Administrators and will keep the shared activities up to date, growing the list of resources, events, meetings and other training options from which members can select to help you develop your career as a professional Financial Planner or paraplanner. IFP will use its connections with providers of education and training to ensure that members have access to appropriate and relevant material, in a way that suits each person’s individual learning requirements. CPD Online is a user friendly system, which you will find intuitive in its functionality if you are used to using computers in the workplace. However, initially you will need to spend a short time familiarising yourself with the programme and how it works, time which will be well worth your while over the longer term as you benefit from the considerable opportunities that it presents.
1.1 CPD Monitoring This system will allocate points for completed CPD activities so you can keep track of your continued learning. You will be required to complete a review form when the activity has been completed which, where appropriate, your supervisors and managers can also access to monitor your progress and to assess the success of the T&C programme as a whole.
1.2 Downloading the CPD Scheme Details CPD Online has been designed to support you in your activities under the new CPD scheme introduced for all members in April 2009. A copy of the CPD guide is available to download from the CPD system Help page.

5. Personal Development Plans (PDPs) As part of your firm’s T&C scheme, it is likely that you will already have created your personal development plan for this year. This outlines your key objectives in terms of developing your knowledge and skills and also the ways in which you aim to maintain your hard won competence across all current areas of activity. Your PDP will therefore identify your high level goals and objectives, which can then be broken down into distinct activities as part of your CPD scheme to help you reach those goals. It is not mandatory but your PDP can now be stored online on the new CPD platform.

CPD Online will allow you to select from pre‐loaded activities across a broad range of topics and in different learning styles which are provided by a large range of organisations, not just the IFP. These activities will cover workshops, conferences, training sessions, meetings etc. You can also add any other activity to your personal log, using the personal activity function which will allow you to enter unstructured learning via activities such as professional reading etc.

This is better than using the button as it will help to link your activity to the different CPD categories, ensuring that your summary sheet or report shows how your activity has been broken down – a requirement of the reporting to IFP. 7. Working with the Diary CPD Online is the ideal way to co‐ordinate all your CPD activities in one central area and to be able to review these in line with your PDP, and overall goals and objectives. You can therefore easily monitor your points totals in each category as well as your progress towards achieving the overall totals required. Personal Activities: These are your own Personal Activities which relate to CPD. However, in the event that in your CPD activities you discover a useful resource which you feel will be of use and interest to other members, then you can share that resource by posting it onto the system. Over time, this will build into a valuable library whereby professional planners and paraplanners can extend the sharing of ideas and experiences in a formal way to help with CPD activities. Such entries will be part of unstructured learning for members, as the content will not have been approved or accredited by IFP. IFP takes no responsibility for the content of shared resources which are posted by members. If you wish to access shared resources EITHER
