16 September for popular Golden Graduates event

The University's "Golden Graduates" - includingalumni, staff and supporters - are being invited toattend a luncheon on 16 September that promises todeliver fine food and fascinating food for thought.

The annual Golden Graduates event has grownenormously in popularity with 380 attending last year,up from just 140 at our first such occasion in 2003.This year's event is again set to be a highlight of theUniversity's calendar, with Professor JohnMontgomery, Chair of Marine Science and Director ofthe South Pacific Centre for Marine Science, taking therole of alumni speaker and the former Dean ofScience, Emeritus Professor Dick Bellamy, sharingreminiscences.

John Key launches Entrepreneurs' ChallengeThe $3 million University of Auckland Business School Entrepreneurs'Challenge funded by the generous endowment from one-time student,London-based international financier Charles Bidwill, was launched on 23July by Prime Minister the Hon John Key.

The Entrepreneurs' Challenge offers young and promising entrepreneurialcompanies financial support and mentoring to move ahead.

Tongan architecture postgraduate wins internationalarts award

A Tongan Master of Architecture student at TheUniversity of Auckland has been awarded a place inthe coveted Commonwealth Connections InternationalArts Residencies programme.

Semisi Fetokai Potauiane, who graduated with aBachelor of Architectural Studies in 2007, is drawingon his exposure to Western-Pacific art traditions toresearch Polynesian (Moana) architecture.

Online lecture - positive parenting and the wellbeingof children

Professor Matthew Sanders was appointed as Adjunct Professor inParenting Studies and Family Psychology at the Faculty of Education atthe end of 2008.

In his first public lecture at The University, Professor Sanders argues thecase for evidence-based parenting programmes, which should bedestigmatised and made widely available.

Black Panther to give lectures, show artwork in NewZealand

The former Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party will deliver apublic lecture and mount a solo exhibition when he visits New Zealand asthe Elam International Artist in Residence at The University of Auckland.

Emory Douglas created the striking graphic images that came torepresent the Black Panther Party in the 1960s, '70s and early '80s. Thegroup was founded in 1966 in Oakland, California, and was one of thefirst organisations in US history to militantly struggle for ethnic minorityand working class emancipation.

Setting the 2020 agendaThe University of Auckland will help tackle some of the major issues facing New Zealand in aforthcoming public policy seminar series.
