Here you can see two shots that are not shown often in music videos. They use of a blur effect on the faces of these girls are effective as you don't know what to think. Many times when you see dead people or someone high on drugs you normally get a slow motion shot for death, and a fast pace bright shot for high. So I think this shot supports some existing media products as we haven’t done the normal effects.

My video

Artists Bow Wow and Monica have use a similar shot to me. The overlapping transparent shot. This use of this shot is to show things like flashbacks/forwards etc. But here we have used it to show a close up to what has been said on the phone’s screen.

Looking at a variety of videos I noticed that artist Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Eminem ft Rhianna and Alicia Keys all used the common boyfriend/girlfriend argument.

Artist Monica is having an argument which turns into a fight with a lady stalker which is pretty unusual.

In my video we challenged the existing media products as we showed an argument happening between a lesbian couple. This is very unusual to see but we wanted our video to show diversity. Also it makes it realistic and there has been more exposure on gay relationships so we decided to show this also.

Point of view shot is a common shot when showing an argument as you can see in Alicia Keys – If I Ain’t Got You video, so we also did this in our video as you can see to the right. Unlike Alicia Keys video our shot is not clear as the couple started to fight.

Other similarities between my video and existing media products are:•We used words for the chorus to emphasis our message, Kanye West also does this for his ‘All Of The Lights’ video and Rihanna for her ‘Rude Boy’ video, yet they do it for different reasons.•We have a phone conversation that takes place, this is similar to the one shown in Alicia Keys ‘You Don’t Know My Name’ video. In our video the girl is breaking up with the boy but in Alicia Keys video she is trying to ask the boy out. So the actions done by the characters and locations are different. Alicia Keys uses a piano room whereas our actress is in a park. The actor Moss Deff is in a dimly lit room in a big chair whereas our male is sitting in a dimly lit room over a laptop watching videos.

We also used effects like split screens to show two things happening at once. In our video she showed drug dealing taking place and to also start the video with two of the actresses walking through a park. Whereas Destiny Child use this same effect but they show each individuals story through the use of split screen.

Our video is a narrative story this is similar to existing media products such as Mary J Blige ft Ludacris- Run away Love. In this video they talk about three girls and the conditions they are living in. My video is similar to this as we talk about three girls and different relationships they are in. Ones with a boy, a girl and drugs. The girl and drug relationship challenges existing products but not the narrative style. Pink- Family Portrait, Kelly Rowland- Soul and Kelly Clarkson- Because Of You also uses narrative story.
